Love this band
Soooo good. Shame about the mix on the video though.
Bins are for Bombs
Glad this is happening again. They did a gig a few years back where they played one 20/30 minute song that was supposedly inspired by the Battle of Thermopylae. While I'm not sure how much of it was actually planned and how much was just improvised, it was still pretty damn good. Did need drums though, so it's good that Jack will be joining them.
thanks
for the edit. :-)
This Town Needs Guns
are not splitting up. It was our bass players last gig with us. He's going to be a dad. Jamie from Hreda is taking over on bass from now on.
Well remembered
"This Town Needs Guns were in the studio doing somthing last timeI heard. Maybe an album later in the year?"
Album out in October. Just putting the finishing touches to the final mix.
Fantastic band
everyone in that band is just a great musician. Can't fault their musical skills or their ability to write incredible pop songs.
Kids Near Water
I LOVED that band. Sooooo good.
What exactly
has pete doherty done this year to deserve a 'hero of the year' award?
there are split seconds of the 'horn' outro
that reminds me of Sweep The Leg Johnny. That's good.
Must have been a pretty smelly video shoot. All that rotting meat?!
Excellent band!
So good to have a band like this back in Oxford.
I'm kind of dissapointed that more bands haven't dropped out by choice.
I watched Nemo's singer say that he simply couldn't bring himself to play the first round of auditions. They were of course ridiculed by the show and said to have 'bottled' it, but when he realised what it was I'm not surprised he refused to do it.
I've seen Nemo supporting Imogen Heap and while I didn't really like them, I did think they were a good band in that they did what they do very well. To be turned down (or in many cases to be picked up) by one of these shows can for a lot of bands mean the beginning of the end. I don't blame them for pulling out at all. They recognised that this show is a crock of shit.
I was also dissapointed to see This City being on there as well, but was pleased when they dropped out. Good on them for realising that it was all total bollocks.
I have to admit though I do enjoy watching some of the acts like Hijack Oscar. I would definitely go see them play live. It is just a shame they haven't gone the 'hard way' and just gigged LOTS. They most certainly would've found success if they had worked at bit harder at building a national fanbase. By going for this shortcut to success, they may end up on the scrap heap far sooner than they should. Which is a shame....cause they're actually good.
Rant over.
Excellent band...
...nice review :-)
and in other TTNG related news...
...we're supporting Pinback in Manchester on the 24th of November.
:-)
Sounds like an episode of Monk..
...you know, the one where he suffers memory loss when he gets hit on the head and dumped in the back of a lorry. Wakes up in the middle of nowhere and the woman who used to play Jackie in Roseanne, leads him to believe he is her husband.
Classic stuff.
that's a shame...
...cause it looks pretty cool:

our drummer played there with his old band and said it was fun. Personally I found the whole multimedia arts exhibition thing to be quite appealing. Although in fairness, our drummer was supported by three guys in underpants, who spent half an hour under a white blanket, switching a kettle on and off. Sounds odd.

Of course not...
...the origins of the name are actually in complete opposition to violence of any kind. Not one of us has a violent bone in our body.
We thought the name was farcical and that no-one would ever take it seriously. It's such a stupid name and when we started out we were only ever playing to friends who all knew that we were just poking fun at macho bullshit bands. At the time there seemed to be a fashion for ridiculous names and we thought we'd parody it. Perhaps we should've changed the name before we started putting out releases and stuff, but we thought that anyone who would actually listen to the music, would realise that the name was a bit of a joke and that we weren't card carrying members of pro-gun lobbyists. It would appear as though we were wrong.
I'm very sorry for your loss.
Guns are bad. People that use them are worse.
Like it says...
....get there early if you want to catch TTNG. We're supporting The Young Knives at the newly opened Zodiac that evening.
so this is what happens...
...when a bunch of ridiculously good musicians get in a room together. Gorgeous!
Good luck
There is a shit load of people trying to sell their ticket.
Battlefield
Is the best of the new songs that I've heard. Absolutely love it!
good point
I'd better make sure Jody can come. Could be awkward what with Jonquil's Truck commitments.
I am so gutted...
...we couldn't play the Newcastle date. Not only because the promoter is lovely, but also because ESTLCF rock my socks.
Alas....too far from Oxford for us to get there in time :-(
My money is on...
...House of Brothers. Apparently he has enlisted the help of three (ex?)professionals on his team.
Get excited kids!
I was just listening to the unmastered version of the album when I read this here article. The album is insanely good. Can't believe Toby sang with a cold! Vocals sound great.
Leicester
Leicester is on the 18th (Leicester Square w/ this town needs guns + fight fire with water + paul marshall). Leeds is on the 12th (brudenell social club w/ ymss + paul marshall).
I haven't heard 'Oh! What a Fiasco'
so I can't comment on that part of the review, but I think 'I Hate Nightclubs' is a great tune.
"Mentions of a nightclub are no where to be found" - so what? Considering whether the title of a song may/may not have much to do with the lyrics is pretty pointless.
I think the ending is really good. Certainly makes a change from the usual pop fodder, of repeating the chorus over-and-over until you get sick to death of it.
I think 5 is a bit harsh. I'd have given it a 7+. Although in fairness I haven't heard the B-side and I might hate that.
MAKE BELIEVE!
There first UK dates (please correct me if I'm wrong). Soooooo good.
good one ady!
bit boring on the old nightshift forum today eh?
;-P
actually, I'm really pissed off at the minute. All your gigs are clashing with other stuff I have planned (like touring/gigs etc). Sort it out!
Oxford City eh?
Youthmovies?
Dive Dive?
tickets for the london show

Only 25 left when I checked just now. This gig HAS to happen.
Worst film ever!
I've seen porno's with better story lines than The Dreamers. Completely ridiculous. Never before or since have I wanted to walk out of a cinema more (I didn't mind you, but plenty of people did). Just a bad excuse for a bit of titilation. Rubbish!
one of the best bands EVER
...but then I am one of those 'devotees' mentioned above. It was a great gig. Liking the new material and I'm excited about getting the new album. Woo!
Jacob's Stories was impressive too.
you should've got...
...jonquil. Amazing!
and on the 9th of November...
..I think they're supporting Jeremy Warmsley at the Zodiac in Oxford.
Tour Dates
The band are on tour over the next few weeks. Go see them on the following dates if you can:
26th of Sept - The Frog and Fiddle, Cheltenham
29th of Sept - The Grosvenor, Brixton, London
2nd of Oct - Retro Bar, Manchester (w/Dartz! + Midget & Giant)
3rd of Oct - The Attik, Leicester (w/The Cape of Good Hope)
5th of Oct - The Vine, Leeds
They'll also be playing The Water Rats in London on November 15th with Aereogramme and Una Corda.
Jane Doe
JD is still to this day one of the best albums I own. You Fail Me just didn't seem to have the same crushing, brutality that JD had. I hope this latest LP will be more JD and less YFM.
The image of YMSS shitting on Franz Ferdinand...
...will stay with me for alot longer than I would like it to. Thanks for that ;-P
You need only play one song....
....to get my booty shakin':
Absinthe Party At The Fly Honey Warehouse - Minus The Bear
Awesome! Has to be said though, it is dissapointing not to see more MTB listed in peoples selections.
