... I really like this album. Having listened to it A LOT over the last month or so I've found that the more attention you give it, the more variation you can find in it. Although maybe sonically(?) there is not all that much variation (in that there is really limited instrumentation, true to their live performance) the songs have very unique qualities which become more and more apparent with time. For example, 'Say Something, Say Anything' is a very different song to, say, 'You Bring Me Down'. For a start you have two voices, two opinions, two attitudes, and both are equal... that gives the album plenty of variation.
The main thing that makes it so great (in my humble opinion) is the restraint that they have shown. To have resisted creating a big studio record is admirable. They have really accurately captured their live energy and sound in the way that a lot (most) bands can't. Although maybe it can be interpreted in as a lack of variation, I think that it's a a great record that shows exactly who they are and what they are about. Some bands work better live, others create beautiful records but fail to deliver when it comes to playing live. Blood Red Shoes fall in to the former - you really need to have seen them perform for this album to make sense. I'm not quite sure how much more they could have done, I hope time will tell.

Hahahaha, hahahahaha.... hahahahahahahahahahah
I love this song
Hurrah!
AMAZING
Band.
The Redlight Company
Have cancelled.
TELEGRAPHS (thats mine and Darcy's band) are replacing them, so come down anyway!
Does that count as a JAG? Sorry if it does.
Ahhhh
Lost Aloney goodness.
Nice one Raz
That has made me happy!
What an excellent interview. Idlewild are my all time favourite band, I can't wait to hear the new album.
!!!
indeed.
Of course I agree...
But I also think there are SO many great bands who have brilliant tunes but no package... which means all the effort and hard work that they put to that leaves them unheard :)
Personally I think mr top_off has is right, specially calling a 22 year old a 'dinasaur'. Whatever that is.
I'm just saying
... that I think some bands float along unaware of what they need to do to step things up - a lot of really great bands. I do think that to be a succesful band you have to have some idea of how to present yourselves beyond having good songs - it would be niave not to think this. Everyone knows how important the internet is to music at the moment (be it good or bad) and myspace dying even a little death such as this will cause consequences... what I'm trying to say (very badly) is that maybe bands presume that they will be heard 'cause they have a myspace, and thats enough... maybe fighting to be recognised online will be positive. And this might be a push for them... and that s a good thing! I'm not saying that if you have a fancy website you are a good band. I'm rubbish at explaining myself. I just think that the internet has made music SO accessable that it takes a bit more to stand out from the crowd, and maybe the need for bands to have their own websites means bands try harder to do this.
I give up. My argument is very flawed and I didnt study hard enough at school.
The best thing about opinions is that they can be changed and I'm not so stubborn that I cant see holes in mine.
Prehaps it is a good thing
I mean, (in terms of music) myspace is massively oversaturated and really becoming quite useless for bands. Any sense of exclusivity has been completely removed – it’s near on impossible for an unknown band to stand out on it. Maybe putting focus back onto websites as a point to download is a positive. It shows a band has enough competence to organise such a thing - and a website gives a band more identity. Myspace is ultimately lazy - anyone can have a myspace page and upload a song, it takes a bit more to set up a good website. More and more bands and musicians are being advised to 'DIY' it - maybe this will encourage people in this direction a little more.
Also it may mean that artists put their music on itunes so that their music is available for download at a higher quality. So people have to PAY for it. And people paying for music is, in my opinion, a very good thing.

That would be my choice
I think.
We had
Niel Young's version of 'Imagine' at my mums... I think it was a nice choice. We made people sing.
People are so miserable
Euk I find it all a bit depressing. Why dont they want something to cheer people up, rather than make them cry more?
Oceansize: new single and tour
amazing song, yeeeee... rubbish tour. how annoying.
hehehe
thats an ace bit of writing... hehehe. they are SO rubbish.
marry him
i tell you, i will! look at him. sigh.
hmph
I had a great time at Download last year, other from the weather bad tatoos and stinky aging topless metallers going 'ug' anywyas... but i thought the best bit was watching the smaller bands. That kind of music just feels better in a smaller tent. and Helmet played twice, which was just about the best thing EVER!
I...
really like this single. I think it's great. Might even head to the Brighton show...
BOLLOCKS
to all things NME
yeah!
I used to love them!!! I bet they'll play all the classics. Remember that dreadful cover of Under The Bridge? That was shameful. But other from that, woohoo!
*crawls back under rock*
she definately not right.
theres something wrong with her. like sonia off eastenders. something definately not right there.
hmmm...
...thats a little melodramatic. Unless there is a new band called Gonorrhea that I have just never heard of. ANYWAYS the important bit is that Johnny Truant are touring, and we should all run out and buy tickets cause they are amazing live. Like, really amazing. And worth suffering through some, um, less impressive support bands to see.
c'mon...
theres a lot worse stuff out there than Blood Roses. Like, um, Beyond All Reason for example!
Nevermind, JT are gonna be amazing...

I found with the first few plays it wowed me, then it kind of dipped a bit, so I tried on a different set of ears to those that it insisted I used when I first heard it, and after that it has seemed to get better and better. If that makes ANY sense. I never expected this album to be one of those that worms underneath your skin (as opposed to into your dancing shoes) but it really has...
