hmmm
Am I really the only person who thinks that they are a completely unsatisfying combination of Frightened Rabbit and the Twilight Sad - but with weaker songs than the former and less interesting arrangements/"sonics" than the latter? Saw them live recently, really tried to get into it but they just left me cold. Ach well!
ha ha
"Apart from the service at the bar, which was worse than the standing order on a busy day."
Things I don't miss about living in Edinburgh: trying to get served in the Standing Order.
.
First full UK release for the album. I think One Little Indian are meant to be putting out both albums in the UK.
Sophomore?
It's actually their 4th album.
The National - Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers - Alligator - Boxer.
There's also the Cherry Tree mini album between the 2nd and 3rd.
.
Sad sad news, he wrote some beautiful songs.
Homegame
Adem was fantastic at both his Homegame sets this weekend. I probably prefer "Homesongs" but that's cos i've heard it so many times. The new album is a grower but worth the patience.
Aye
Fair enough if Test Icicles just don't want to do it any more, but at least be honest! "Pressures of touring" is lame. Just admit you don't enjoy it anymore.
As for everyone getting their knickers in a twist, get over it. It's an opinion. People in bands can have them. At least Mogwai bother to make their website worth reading.
Cretaion, Sony and Oasis
Creation were part owned by Sony, then bought over, but Oasis were always signed to Sony - just that the records came out on Creation in the UK for "cred" and because McGee wanted to have them but Creation couldn't afford it.

Re: New Order - Singles
Of the previously released compilations, Substance only covers the first dozen or so, and the Best Of from 1994, and International (i think!) only contain fairly random selections.
Why they hadn't bothered to do this before, i'm not sure.

Devendra Banhart launches label
Re: Joy Zipper - 1
Sadly, Mercury have dropped them this week.
Re: Cutt Off... slacks and a rather fetching blouse
The Cribs - Mirror Kisses
If you mean the split with the Fire Engines, i think you'll find that the Fire Engines predated Franz Ferdinand by a good 20-odd years.
The time i saw Cribs they had two kinds of song - good ones that were a bit like Pavement, and awful ones that were a bit like the Libertines.

Re: Motormark
Re: New Order - Jetstream
I get the feeling that New Order keep making records/touring because they need to - both as guys who've never really done anything else, and for financial reasons.
Not really a fan of Jetstream. The album's not great, but it works better as a whole record than if you just hear odd songs off it. Sounds like the Lightning Seeds, though! I was kind of hoping for some stuff along the lines of Here To Stay, that seemed like a better direction to be going in than this, especially as they claimed it would be less "guitar-y" than Get Ready. (If i remeber rightly!)

Motormark
Marco has a small hand made theremin. I keep forgetting to email him and find out where he got it.
Re: No Party in the Park 05: Sir Bob takes over
They should hold Live 8 on the North Inch in Perth. :)
Re: SFA announce May tour and new LP
The bus takes you via Perth.
This May, vote for Misty's Big Adventure party
Misty's are excellent!
PS It's 50ft Wave, not The 50ft Waves ;)
Cranebuilders - Sometimes You Hear Through Someone Else
That is all.

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop
Did anyone email Barrs to check?
I drank far too much Irn-Bru in first year at uni. In fact even now there's a corner of my flat dedicated to the empties i've never taken back to the 24 hour garage. Oh, good call on Irn-Bru bars too!
Re: Wilco: Martha Wainwright supports on UK dates
The Fiery Furnaces - EP
I like "Gallowsbirds Bark", but i've never got around to getting "Blueberry Boat" as it seemed like it might just be too quirky for my liking.
Arcade Fire: release early on iTunes
It is indeed a very good album with very nice packaging indeed.
Love don't live here anymore - Shack burns down
Eitzel's 11: A full UK tour for American Music Clu
Oh yes!
Shame i'll have to go to Glasgow on my own for it though.

Desert Hearts - Gravitas/Hammer & Frogs
Thats what he said a couple of months ago anyone.
This single is indeed class.
Re: The Go! Team - Ladyflash
TUUUUUUUUUUUUUNE!!!!
Re: The Go! Team - Ladyflash
Or last years's Memphis Industries sampler CD?
*cough*street team*cough*
Misty's Big Adventure - The Solar Hi-Fi System
A friend of mine had to leave during their set when we played with them because the guy in the red suit freaked her out.
I think the vocal intro to that last Zutons single sounds like Misty's Big Adventure.
The Others - Stan Bowles
Oh dear.
Is the version of "This Is For The Poor" on the NME/XFM CD anything like the single version? I thought it was faster? Or at least listenable in some perverse way...
Mercury Tilt Switch - Get Ready For The Trench Run
ThisGIRL Hit the Highlands and, er, Cornwall
So this is now the most uncool gig of the year.
Oh well.
xx
The Mercury? Predictable? Surely not...
Re: The Streets - Dry Your Eyes
Is it wrong of me to prefer the more reflective stuff?
The Concretes - You Can't Hurry Love
Re: The Ordinary Boys - Over The Counter Culture
They are a press company who are being paid a handsome some by Warners to ensure that their priority act get into all the magazines and get hyped by the likes of the NME. There is nothing altruistic on anyone's part.
Who the NME cover is more about advertising money and the clout of those backing the act than about how good the music is. To think otherwise is naive. The NME need the advertising money that major label priority acts bring. It's therefore in their interests to cover these bands. Has anyone else noticed that the NME has been rather more gushing in the last couple of years about bands than it had been for a long time? It almost reads more like a collection of press releases these days than a magazine.
Re: The Ordinary Boys - Over The Counter Culture
having seen both MMA and the Ordinary Boys in the last few months i can assure you that MMA crushed the Ordinary boys like a giant standing on ants. The Ordinary Boys bored the crap out of my friends and i, though i really tried to find something redeeming about them i just thought they were dull and stodgy and tuneless. MMA were ace and everybody loved them. The End.
Adam's review encapsulates everything that i feel, and everyone i have talked to feels, about the Ordinary Boys.
Re: TITP Gets Better: BSP! Shins! Killers!
Though you feel like you're in Glasgow all weekend cos they've all decamped to the east coast to piss me off. ;)

Last post on this disappeared...
Am I the only person that's completely underwhelmed by WWPJ? To me they sound like a really unsatisfactory combination of Frightened Rabbit (but without the songs) and the Twilight Sad (without the arrangements/soundscapes, etc). Saw them live recently, and as much as I wanted to like them they just did nothing for me. The album isn't much better.
Ach well!
