Novocaine for The Soul on TOTP was ace. Didn't The Jesus Lizard also play when the split with Nirvana charted?

.

This is a fucking excellent idea. Will DiS be putting out a lucrative compilation album featuring tracks from the artists?

If you'd asked me at Xmas, I'd have voted FOTL without a second thought, but Fuck Buttons are awesome and so is Third.

Burial

He won't win it cos he won't turn up, even though he probably should.

I could see it going to Radiohead like, especially with the internet release situation.

Quaye Geneology

Don't know if there is actually any shared blood, but Finlay shares a surname with Tricky's mam Maxine (thus Tricky's 1st too). Tricky proper hates him though and reckons he got famous off his reputation. He did a b-side muttering some paranoid bile about "taking my mother's name in vain" which is meant to be a song for Finlay.

I might be in a minority here (or just an old old man), but I liked Maverick A Strike and I like his second one too (although I'm stuck for the actual title.)

...

And he invented Grime with Juxtapose too. He lost it a bit later on, but you can't touch him and Martine on the early stuff.
Remember Tricky is your Christ for ever and ever...

Still seriously

Regardless of how awesome she might be, surely she can come up with a slightly more original name?

Voting

How's about voting for ATP to relocate closer to Newcastle? Like, Longsands beach, or Whitley Bay Caravan Park?

Seriously though

Does nobody else think Contrary Motion or Computer Dating are better songs?

The Most Suprising of All

Is it just me, or is anyone else surprised that all these records came out after 2000? I kind of feel that everything I buy becomes part of my collection a little while after purchase and I can never remember when stuff came out after that.

Laverne's Friends

She has at least two friends cos I've heard her name drop the dude from Fourtet into Glasto coverage at least once. She is still, without doubt, a shit TV presenter without an ounce of personality. Get Sarah Cawood's honey-buns back onto credible TV again instead.

Popworld: new series drops a day earlier

I reckon he's damn funny. And Miquita's fully hot too. Yey Popworld!

Third annual Distraction Weekender: line up, tickets, info...

And everyone should support the Cluny's No-houses-near-us campaign.
And go to the Cluny as well to see bands and drink beer and stuff.

100 bands to play massive free festival in Middlesbrough! What's not to like?

I'm planning on going by train. A friend of mine bought a car in Boro and was offered special anti-corrosion paint especially formulated to combat the toxic atmosphere.

ATP December details: The Mars Volta bring the Nightmare

Les Savy Fav are the greatest live band on the planet. No questions. And the tickets-pairs is a good idea too. I'd like to go, but I realised last year exactly how far Rye is from Newcastle, and it isn't good.

Andre 3000 gets mad respect for da kids

If anyone's familiar with The Mighty Boosh, I think you'll find Julian Barrett did a very convincing Bryan (Lord of The Forest) Ferry. How about Kylie Minogue to play Prince? Tilda Swinton for Bowie?

Oneida? Here? Yes? Yes! Tour dates!

I miss the drums too. The new albums sounds like it was recorded in a time machine between Tommy by the Who and Fairport Convention. Pretty nice.

Yes it's f*cking political: Ian Brown electioneers...

I wasn't aware The Others were up for election.

Saul Williams - Saul Williams

His first was ace, and I'm canny waiting for this one. Anyone seen 'Slam'?

Reading & Leeds Festival: Bands Announced

The last Leeds I went to was the one that got it nearly shut down ('03?). Apparently the atmosphere is better, but I think a little 'hazing' is par for the course. I agree that its mainly kids acting like twats, but they've got to learn somewhere as they'll never listen to us old-timers about how to behave. I quite like the rawkus atmosphere though (not the fear-for-your-life-rioting-and-pillaging). I went to ATP last year and everyone was a bit too cool for me.
I'd love to see Mars Volta, Secret Machines and Blood Brothers announced. And Kerbdog too. Possibly Roots Manuva as well.

The Sound Explodes through March and April

No, you're right. I dislike them because they live near me. Its not because I can't hear anything special in their music. Well spotted, geography fascism rules.

The Sound Explodes through March and April

You want to be the MC5 but you're from Whitley Bay. Bunch of poser-pricks. There are that many good bands round here, I can't believe these got signed. You know they walked out of a Battle of The Bands when they didn't win. It was a full toys out of pram moment.

Doves - Some Cities

I always feel like Doves tend to have few absolute corkers on their albums and the rest is a bit middling. I'm not slagging them off cos after Cedar Rooms and There goes the Fear I'll forgive anything, but I wouldn't go as far as to buy the albums after having heard them.

Maximo Park - "As far as we are concerned, there's only good music and bad music"

I may be the only kid on my block not to like them, but I remain unswayed. And coming from the North East, there's a fair few round here soaping their tits. Don't personally see the attraction. Mclusky good though. Carry on.

Maximo Park - "As far as we are concerned, there's only good music and bad music"

Maximo Park are shit and they sound like a gayer version of The Killers.

'No End In Sight'? Consult new supergroup, This Is Menace...

Agreed. Aside from Chaos I'm excited. Do you think he was hanging around the studio looking edgy and troubled, and they all felt sorry for him because all of his bands songs sound exactly the same and they weren't very good anyway?

The Mars Volta release download-only single

Is it me, or have I got a review copy sitting in my house right now? With artwork and everything. They went to a canny effort to pack up a download-only just for me.

The Subways - 1am

Dunno mate. Worst signed band in GB has to be Maximo Park. The Killers but really, really shit. Subways good at what they do. Maximo want kicked in the pods. And you can quote that one.

Mars Volta add to final Frusciante solo release

Navarro's solo stuff is canny cack, with the exception of one or two songs, nowhere close to Perry's solo record. I blame Mr Navarro for the general rubbishness of 'Strays'.

So, What's the ..... of the year?

Record: Death From Above 1979 - You're a woman I'm a machine OR The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free. One of them was the perfect thing to blow cobwebs out of your face and the other gets better once you ignore the hype. Icarus Line - Penace Soiree too.

Gig: TODD at ATP in March.

Band: My band, Molten Unicorn, just for having 5 practices in a row. That's professionalism.

The only festival I went to was ATP Wknd One. I played mini golf in a gale drinking Special Brew.

I'm going to recommend the pitchforkmedia website, insangel13.co.uk for nearly sorting us out with a drummer and a practice room and letting petty band twats call each other names; the Electric Circus night in Newcastle; Colin Murray on Radio One, or me on www.weirdears.com; roadtrips to Liverpool.

Misc: Iron Bru. Helmet's reunion album was a waste of my time. I pulled a fat girl at a party and was alarmed to find out it was my friend's sister. The girl who hates me at indie nights in Newcastle (her name is supposed to be Vicki but Fat Arse Small Tits to her friends) getting punched for chatting up some old tarts boyfriend. Go girl! Got job, no money: No job, no money. Still living at home. Less talk more action.

Do the 'Dog - Irish rock monsters reform!

Only if Husker Du sounded like Metallica.
Please don't play London, play Newcastle instead. I'm waiting with baited breath. Kerbdog were indeed fookin ace, and fully underrated. Are they bringing the other guitarist out or are they touring as a three piece?

Holmes sweet Holmes: David to tackle Ocean's Twelve

I'd say Bow Down to The Exit Sign was his best. Its got a load of elements of good stuff with great vocalists. I thought Lets Get Killed was boring, and This Films Crap only slightly better cos at least it sounds a bit emotive and cinematic. And The Free Association was ace too. David Holmes - a little bit too famous for his own good but pretty damn good. I wasn't too keen on his producing Blues Explosion though.

Damn You! My town's not got gigs as good as these...

I don't live near London or Nottingham. What a fucking cunt of fucking cunt piss. Geography's a bastard.
