I think you've made the same mistake as I did to start with...

... it's the Wave Machines playing Dot to Dot, not the Wave Pictures. I hope I'm wrong though, saw them in Cambridge last week and they were ace. Liking the new album as well.

I love Akron/Family but....

having heard Everyone is Guilty, I'm not optimistic about this album. Desperate to see them live though!

^^ This

All the kid a's parents stuff is utter bullshit.

In my opinion Kid A is one of the most complete albums of the decade. Some of the songs on Amnesiac are better than some of the songs on Kid A but it feels disjointed compared to Kid A.

Kid A is a masterpiece, probably my favourite Radiohead album.

good review, very good album

Burial sounds is awesome

Point well made.

.

.

I love this band, I love this album. This review is just wrong!

.

Now listening for the first time and it's very rare for me to enjoy an album this much on the first listen. Fantastic!

Good album.

But certainly not easy listening! Look forward to hearing their next one which is out pretty soon I think

I've voted for 7!

Just thought I'd see what happened answer was not much!

good work JohnM

be interesting to see just how different the two lists are

.

15 Steps is one of the best things I've heard this year, fuckin fantastic

Drumming

Who said the drumming on Videotape was crap, listening for the first time now and I really like it.

Great album

but wasnt it out last year, I'm sure I read somewhere that there's a new one on the way sometime soon

I loved it from the first listen

Great album, only let down in places by some poor lyrics. One of my fav albums of the year so far though

i love this

Komad is ace

Top 25?

Can we not just have the full 25? I knew I should've voted, thought Liars would be a lot higher

Totally

agreed, gets better with each listen, lay of the land was cracking in places, this one is cracking all the way through

Re: Man dies at Club NME

Quick, get them to change it!!

Weirdy Beardy plots conquer of Europe, invites friends

legend!?! think thats goin a bit too far

Re: Coldplay - Speed Of Sound

I think its harsh to claim that all their songs sound the same, Rush of Blood to the Head made a real attempt to move forwards with songs like Clocks and Politik, haven't heard the new song yet but I was hoping it would follow that progression, be a real shame if they play it safe

Re: Oh, what a lovely day to drink some English tea: Britpop in 2005

It's all ok, this year sees the return of one the best British bands of the last 10 years. Magoo are back with a 2cd mini album at the end of next month and then a full length album around May.

Its not as bad as it seems as long as you dig beneath the surface

Arcade Fire: release early on iTunes

Totally agree, first few listens i really wasnt sure but then it hit me and as you said it all made sense.

Do not settle for the mp3's, i dloaded some fairly good mp3's, then got it on import and it just sounds ten times better, which makes it a mighty fine album!

The Broken Family Band - Welcome Home, Loser

Can't wait for this to come out, great band!

As for magoo, theres a couple of songs from the new mini album on the website, read somewhere that their full length is out in may

Re: John Peel Festive 50 - The Fall take top spot

The session version was done in 2003, so that couldnt have been in it this year. Very surprised Blindness wasnt even in the top 50. Don't think i've heard #2 (unless thats the version on the album) but i agree the session version is quality.

Re: Best of 2004 - five for 2005

ah Wombat Wombat! i wish i lived in norwich, they put on some quality gigs. Then again stoke does have the music rooms which is pretty damn good too

So, What's the ..... of the year?

Record: Tv on the Radio - Desperate.... The only completely unique and very enjoyable album i've heard this year (so far) and New Health Rock indicates theres more to come in the future.

Other Contenders: Futureheads: Just very fun
Arcade Fire - Funeral Took a few a listens to get into it but cant get enough now

gig: Herman Dune/Kimya Dawson - first gig of the year and also the best, wish it could have gone on all night

new band: Bloc party: cant think of anyone else and they're pretty damned good

Label: Superglider www.superglider.com Go download the mp3's now

Website: www.theplasticashtray.tk Best music forum on the net that i know of.

Radio - John Peel: No one else will ever come close

REM - Around The Sun

The most dissapointing bit of this album is the way it ends, in the past the last couple of songs on REM records have often been the best (Nightswimming/Find the River, Electrolite, Country Feedback, Hairshirt, Swan Swan H, West of the Fields). On around the sun the last 2 tracks are very poor, i dont think i've managed to listen to the ascent of man all the through yet!

Super Furry Animals - Songbook Vol. 1

seen them twice, once at v last year and they were ok but not great, then saw them again a few months later at a proper venue and they were fantastic. a mate saw them at another festival this year and said they were poor, so maybe its a festival thing

Re: REM - Around The Sun

Up is underrated, but not the best thing they've recorded.

Reveal is poor except for the brilliant I've been high

Re: REM - Around The Sun

Green is fantastic but i think some of it has aged quite badly, especially Stand, world leader pretend is one of fav REM songs tho. My fav album is Lifes Rich Pageant

STOP PRESS! Dumb pop gossip...

If they give peel the chop it'll be the end of the world!! Or at least Radio 1

Re: Ash - Meltdown

Free all angels has a few decent songs (walking barefoot, burn baby burn, world domination). But 1977 is ten times better and trailor is even better

Now listening to Meltdown, was expecting it to b better than free all angels, but not impressed so far

Ox - Canada's Alt.Country Hopefuls

Hate to disagree with everyone but i saw Ox earlier in the year and they were awful, the only song that i liked happened to be the only one sung by the girl. Maybe they're better on record, but live they were crap

Re: BPI's pirate purge

I'm with Stumbleine on this one, i certainly cant afford to buy all the albums that i want to listen to. if its a band that i really like then i'll just buy it straight away, but otherwise i'll dload a few songs then decide if i want to buy it. i certainly wouldnt say i spend any less on cd's than b4, if anything i'm prob spending more cos i'm gettin to here more

Ash

How about super furries? much more relevant than ash in my opinion. not sayin i dont like ash, but super furries are better.

saw ash in stoke last month, the new stuff sounds like a mixed bag. some of it sounds like they're tryin a bit too hard but then theres evil eye and a few others which are top notch!

Nina Nastasia: Dogs re-release and Tour

Woooooooo...! Been waiting for this album to be re-released for ages. Pity the tour doesnt come anywhere near me tho, saw her last june and the whole band was fantastic

Re: Magoo - London Camden Dublin Castle

I'd say Soateramic sounds is even better
