my top 3 performances of the weekend were

the national
the swell season
portishead

other notable mentions go to autolux, les savy fav, kraftwerk, not succumbing to heatstroke and spending a fuckload of money in rasputin and amoeba records

how the pixies broke up in '93

frank: "i like the way you play bass, kim."
kim: "you snide fucker, i quit."

the gig

was far better than the review attempts to suggest. in fact, autolux were great. amazing bass sound. what wasn't amazing was the chump stood in front of me who wooped and wolf whistled all fucking gig.

cafe saki

it's in rusholme, just at the start of the curry mile across the road from whitworth park on oxford rd.

i came down from manchester for this

i had a brief look at the rules on myspace before setting off.

not being able to bring your own drinks or food in was a joke, especially as none of my friends or i had our bags checked at the entrance.

perhaps had the organisers allowed patrons to bring their own alcohol, the queues for the beer tents wouldn't have been as dense, but also perhaps more people would have been inclined to buy beer from the tents after they had drunk their own, meaning steady but short queues throughout the day. as it was, i didn't buy one drink.

what was the reasoning behind not being allowed re-admittance to the site?

and this probably has not thing to do with the organisers directly, but why did liars take so long to sound check? taking 45 minutes to sort their shit out was the final straw.

at least foals and battles put on good sets.

believe it or not

it was me who phoned xfm and got an earful off camfield...i have the ridiculous phone bill to prove it somewhere. was worth it though.

can't wait for this album to be released/toured.

the verses

sound alot like the minutemen. this is a good thing.

not north

enough for me, and besides, it's a right faff to get to from the other side of the pennines.

no

dates in northern england. piss.

shitter

their gigs at joseph's well were some of the best i've ever seen. i'll miss 'em.

the manchester gig

was really poor, with erin seemingly forgetting how to keep time. whenever any of the programmed drum loops came in, a song's tempo almost doubled. maybe they just had a bad night, but it was an amateur performance.

everyone else seemed to love them, but then they were probably too busy watching dave knudson's hands/feet or shouting "botch" all night to notice how weak the the gig was.
