maybe you can't believe what you read in the papers
but when I read her supposedly saying how tough life was when you had to study for your A levels while working on music, I thought f**k off and learn about struggle you silly little girl.
Bet the street gig stuff is PR bullshit too.
oh :-( I was all excited to see this on the front page of dis
but sad at the low points score :-(
I've followed the progress of this band since I gave them one of their first gigs in London and was really struck by their songwriting. They had so much label interest and then they lost their drummer and bass player and experimented with a keyboarder and the gigs really lost their sparkle but they didn't give up their fight. They told me that Setanta offered them such a tiny budget and time to do this album that the lawyer who looked over the contract for them actually laughed but they thought they had no choice but to risk it and go with the label's experience. I saw them at RoTa last week and can say that they've really got their live sparkle back, I reckon they might agree with Ben that there's some wasted opportunity with this album. I've not heard it yet though so it's a bit pointless me going on. I would say though Ben that they have won hearts already, otherwise how would the respected ears of Setanta have wanted to have them? Would also like to say that it makes a nice change to read a review that explains why it feels negative rather than making cheap jibes.
I've heard good music from Coventry, or at least a Cov label from Tough Love Records
Never heard the enemy though, I suppose that's because I don't much listen to the radio and leave Smash Hits 2007, sorry, I mean the NME, on the shelf as it would be mean to deprive the 10 years olds of their pleasure.
publicity stunt surely
there is no way a free giveaway could chart, just silly.
How many of the CDs will have found their way to Ebay by Monday morning? Hundreds I'm sure. Unless this stunt is being repeated world over, there will be lots of foreign buyers for this won't there?
The Vessels have reformed with another name
They're Brinkman now, on an EMI imprint
just looked on youtube
at the Joss Stone acceptance as I couldn't bear to watch the Brits but all the talk got me curious. OMG! I think someone has decided that if it worked for Nelly Furtado (transform from curvy, friendly slightly hippy type to over-thin sexy type)it would work for Joss. Unfortunate.
..and James M really is some worrying clone of Chris Martin and James Blunt combined isn't he?
isn't she another stage school kid?
thought I read somewhere that she'd been to the Brit school, or did I imagine that?
celebrity gone mad
I was at a gig at The Old Blue Last a couple of Saturdays back and a gaggle of Doherty faithful were there because it had gone out on myspace and the forums that Babyshambles were rockin up for a set there (that's not why I was there I hasten to add; ever since I saw the Libertines play with out of tune guitars and so off their heads they couldn't remember lyrics I've given PD a wide berth live). Well, PD BS never showed and the barman told me that the promoter and venue had bent over backwards to fit BS in at the last minute, begged and borrowed equipment because apparently BabyShambles are above bringing their own and paid for double security.
All I can say is, as long as venues and promoters are willing to treat PD and his entourage like royalty in the hope of selling a few extra beers and perhaps a tabloid photo, they deserve what they get...I'm glad that the other bands have got some publicity out of this at least
how to make sale count? Easy
If you want to get something chart eligible on fast, you can pay indiestore.com to put you on their pro level, you're there in the time it takes to process a card transaction and upload. Other aggregators will get you on to iTunes etc., the likes of CDbaby will take pretty much anyone but will take a while and probably not guarantee release dates. If your approach is convincing enough, much better aggregators with influence over editorial will take you on. Anyway, too much speed would bad. You need to give yourself a couple of months leadtime so that you can get your promo stuff out.
Ditto - your really really let yourself down with your postings and your approach. You provide a legitimate service but by trying to pretend that you're unique and that the whole process is harder than it actually is, you come across as just another chancer who is trying to fleece bands

not quite any download. You need an ISRC code and it needs to be registered in Catco. This is not difficult and certainly doesn't take 9 months as someone else said, he must have confused that with having a baby, that takes 9 months. You join PPL as a label, they are very helpful, you can be a label as a sole trader, you get the software for registering from Catco, they are also very helpful. You find yourself an aggregator to get you on to the sites, also not too difficult, you can get it for commission only or others you have to pay an annual fee. If you have no physical release, you do not have to deal with Millward Brown. No doubt Ditto are fine to work with if you are lazy and don't want to be bothered with doing the admin youself, time is money for some.
..as far as cheating with multiple downloads, they say that they have security in place to prevent this, the download chart has been going for a while.
Does anyone know how many downloads they have actually sold to get to that position? Not my type of music but I wish all power and good luck to any band who can break through without a label behind them or radio support.
People do put out bulletins about bands Sean
I've read them and discovered some new bands that I like that way - and others that I don't. Don't forget that you're hardly an average user
Saw him live once
at The Jazz Cafe. Excellent performance. It is indeed very sad to read that he had died so young.
just how "unsigned"??
A quick look at their website contacts page shows that they are not exactly without backing. They have the same PR company as EMI (who pays for that?), they have top booking agents ITB. They have well known management. No doubt a plugging company has been behind much of their radio play
Maybe things are not quite what they seem?
Buy the single if you like it,, not cos they are unsigned!

not uncommon for bands with dead members to keep gigging
even INXS so, like the person said, maybe they meant the rest of the band
