Not for me

I saw them last year in King Tuts. Thought they were pretty embarrassing.

The first thing that struck me, and i have no idea if they are still doing this, is the look or over considered image. Dressed in white sipping from buckfast bottles. Good god. Why? I suppose this could be put down to youthful naivety that this is cool, funny, a good idea, appealing. You could say who cares what they look like, but quite clearly they did and they wanted you to care. Of course this will be denied. As well as lookin laughable, it jarred with what i had heard about them, struggling band trying to make good. Someone had spent a few bob.

The songs for me were the wrong side of Weegie. Not smart, not well written and on the night sounded shte. Put that together with a ridiculous look and you have well and truly turned me off. Maybe they have grown beyond this but i doubt it.

wow, what's going on here?

What's with the general, "ah well Scottish festivals are mental" attitude. Firstly it's pretty inappropriate, and I suppose the lesser point is that it’s a massive generalisation. From what I have heard the Reading and Leeds festivals tend to be rougher than any of the Scottish ones. Maybe they are, maybe they’re not. Just seems like a bit of a queue to have a kick at Scots fests. At Scottish festivals everyone gets pretty steaming but there is in my opinion a general sense of camaraderie amidst the drunkin stupor.

Plus according to BRMC, Joe Strummer told them that the King Tuts tent was one of the best crowds he has played to. I know, I know he must say that to everyone but I think it at least marks the festival as having a bit of a special atmosphere.

Damn shame for the poor guy, his family and friends. Young guy, life ahead of him, trying to have a good time.

Augusten Burroughs

.

wow wow wow

Tramp juice sponsored music festival? I think your getting your products wrong.

I still hum JJ72

what does that mean for me?

My tolerance of Girls Aloud evaporated a while back.

I know you mean the Paranoid Android point, and thats what really hurts

I am

...really excited about this. Great review.

I've seen them

they are comedy good, but as a real band p1sh. If we're being serious, actually a bit embarassing.

That film was fcking awful.

I love Bowie and Catherine Deneuve as well. I found it completely unwatchable. Maybe it went over my head.

It's inevitable but unfair..

to compare what Malcolm is doing solo, to Arab Strap. I like the song a lot. I prefer the last two solo albums but still listen to this oneall the time.

5.14 is one of my favourite albums of all time. It was a bit of a soundtrack to my miserable days at Uni. Looking back they weren't miserable. Maybe Malcolm's to blame. Pa! Twas worth it.

I went to the Control Premiere at Edinburgh Film Festival.

In the Q and A the guy that played Sumner said that they do a couple of tracks on the OST. It was such a shty question to ask as well.

What a film.

i blame the sponsor

.

Where are tickets on sale?

You jiving me foo?

I quite like the EITS comparison. Not really that much a stretch of the imagination.

Nothing exciting in Falkirk???

How about Middleton and Moffat

will they ever give a reason

for the no show at t in the park

well done DiS

...for this.

Would be pretty cool

if Manson designed the Olympic logo

Good review.

That the second one of yours i have read and really enjoyed today.

i like it, more please

The pictures are always so pretty.

not heard the song

... but don't think there is anything wrong with the review. It's quite well written.

^

This is indie snobbery.

Biffy = good band. Cult following which is kind of suited.

SP = Average band sometimes good sometimes shte. For some reason have fckn global mega band status.

No one said they are the same/ play the same/whatever. Just that SP are punching above their weight and maybe Biffy are about to as well.

will miss her again...

unbelievable.

She played a few things related to my work. People in here all say she was great.

Good luck to her and hopefully i'll catch her soon

Not heard the record but to comment on the review...

Commenting that Alex is a good reviewer and has a history of fine work does not mean that the review is good. The Manics have a history of some great albums... etc etc.

It quite obviously was a case of the reviewer knew where he was going with this when he got a hold of the CD "now you just sort of hope they'll piss off quietly".

It is not a review that tells me anything about the album. I know this guy always had it in for this record.

I'm quite easily influenced and often buy albums on the back of reviews, many from DiS. When a review is in a tone like this i disregard.

As for DiS doesn't have a party line on a particular band. I disagree, reading the the staff posts on the boards points you clearly towards the acts that DiS as a collective community enjoy. Manics generally get trashed.

I don't like Liam

but laughed when he said "seeing as we don't get nominated for this sh1t anymore, this'll have to fcking to do". It is all nonsense. That Fratelli's thing is another unwanted finger up the a*se of credible music. In other words, it was wrong.

I think they did this last year as well..

.. only it was gigs as well. I may be wrong but this isn't a new concept on me.

Who the fck is reading all that?

I gave up before i noticed if anyone mentioned:
Regina - Samson
Phoenix - Never Been Like That
Giant Drag - Kevin is Gay (that's been mentioned)
Spinto Band - Oh Mandy
Arab Strap - I Saw You
Maximo Park - Apply Some Pressure
Guillemots - Train to Brazil.

Jamie Crossan, you picked The View and The Fratellis. Brave choice. Add The Automatic to that and you have the soundtrack to my nightmares this year.

Thank you

for making me laugh at 4.45 on a Tuesday.

I saw them and went to post my opinion but

.. didn't get round to it, couldn't be bothered, didn't see the point, all of the above.

Anyway, i was given a free ticket by a friend who is "getting into music". Not wanting to be rude, i went and told him it was alright. I lied, they sucked, the gig sucked, the people sucked. It was like gig 18-30, or a wanna be libertines band watched by wanna be libertines fans. Which is pretty damn trafic to watch. Anyway it was an awful awful gig.

i'm surprised

at Barrowlands. Album was great, live at ABC2 earlier this year the were fckn rotten. Much like The Spinto Band who i compared them to and got shot down. They also sucked live

potential to become the best band in Scottish history

Words cannot convey how concerned i am about you saying that.

I bought these tickets

weeks ago

My god, calm down..

I read the interview, well a couple of pages then i got bored. It's a silly thing to say but the whole tone of the article was gushing. Hailing them to be one of the biggest and best bands in the world just now. The guy interviewing them was feeding all this stuff to him. I think it was a silly comment from a guy who has got a bit carried away with himself. Not a fan of The Killers but they shouldn't be motivating you all to react like this. My god they are not that significant.

Very well written review

Nice one. I relate a lot to what you're saying. As i am not as literate as your good self i would say they suck but there are greater evils.

Clap

They sound almost identicle to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Especially the singer. I like both.

suck

Not to mention 90% of the bands sucked balls

Stupid

OK lets do something in Edinburgh..... When would be a good time???? How about September not much will have happened in the City for a while!!! Fcking morons Edinburgh's rode ragged with the fringe all August and this was poor planning right the way through.

Have heard it

and it's really really good

ok give me your opinion on

how these songs compare to something like I'll Be There When You Wake by Reindeer Section which i think Gary wrote. It's too easy to trash a band when they get up there, but i'm honestly not just having a go. Compared to previous efforts the music is too cheesey and glossy (so i take issue with the big up to the production mentioned in this review) and perhaps that takes some feeling of sencerity away from his voice making me question the lyrics too. Plus the single sounds like Del Amitri!!!!! I'm now guessing i'm the only one to pick up on this.

I haven't heard it but thought the single sounded like Del Amitri

...... which isn't a good thing. I like SP, went to Reindeer Section gigs and thought they were immense etc. You make a point of them not claiming to be the next great songwriters or something like that but from what I have heard the new stuff is a clear decline in standard. Only my opinion but i think they can do a lot better.

Constantines - Tournament Of Hearts

Are they supporting SK on all their UK dates????? I can't see it mentioned on their website.

Malcolm Middleton - Into The Woods

Jesus, that's darker than i thought!

Was it the Brel gig you were at or the album launch at Mono? I have intended to see Malky solo loads of times but something has always come up. Did you know he headlining the T Break stage at TITP?

That's pretty cool some of the Delgados were playing.

Malcolm Middleton - Into The Woods

Someone commented that it's far better than the first album. I don't see it. I think this new one is fantastic but the first one blew me away.

Malcolm Middleton - Into The Woods

"Middleton's engrossing and imaginative lyrics are worthy of published poets"

Very much the case. Whether he wants to or not he simply entertains you with pure pain. A stand couple of lines I thought went something like..

"Someone bought me knives last Christmas.
Stayed at home and nobody missed us.
Lieing on the bathroom floor,
I don't want to ho ho ho no more."

Foo Fighters - In Your Honour

Na, I don't think so. Think he's ranting and coming across a bit 'high school teacher'. The whole 'I see what your trying to do' thing serves only one purpose, to be patronising. A very uncool thing.

The review is fine and the guy further explained what he was saying. Something he didn't need to do. To be honest I don't understand the point in posting to say how awful a review is. Ok, maybe to an extent it's fine to say 'i didn't really agree with ....', or 'that's not the case...' etc etc. For me, you’re far too eager to shit on this guy which is kinda sad.

Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked

I heard he said something about Gary's hair and it was the final straw.

Sigh. Someone must have said this already

Thermals over Britain this April...

No culture icons is a fantastic song. In my opinion one of Sub Pop's best at the moment.

Cat Deeley leaves CD:UK. A nation switches off

Great moment in TV history when Slash said to her at 11am "I was sick of girls wanting to give me blow jobs" or something like that.

Futureheads scotch Scotland

Cheeky fckers. Shows that they obviously prioritise audiances south of the border above "Us Jocks".

I was going to buy The Futureheads album but due to 'time restraints' they can stick it up their arse.

Hey, that means im a tenner up. Thanks Futureheads.

The Rasmus - Dead Letters

This puts me in mind of watching Mullholland Drive, What! Why! Im confused.

Surely it's as plain as the flacid pnis hanging from the guys forehead that they truely are an awful awful band.

Goldie Lookin' Chain - Guns Don't Kill People, Rappers Do

not really.

They opened the main stage at T in the Park on Sunday. Oh my! Twas a dark day for music indeed.

Bikini Atoll tonight! In London! Cor!

Oh right.......Yes, she did
