I agree the attack probably went as far as it did for the reasons you describe - general lack of respect for others from an uneducated underclass disenfranchised from the rest of society - but the initial reason they were picked on was surely because they dressed differently, had loads of piercings etc.

It scares the bejesus out of me, not because I dress that way - I grew out of baggy jeans and Limp Bizkit a loooooong time ago - but coz Bacup , where the attack happened, is about 20miles from Accrington where I live, and I'm sure the knobheads who did it are the same brand of knobheads round here.
