Harsh
I really like The Omen. So will I actually like the rest of this record?
good selections!
apart from Mercury. Which is awful. It really is awful.
Tropics
are great. Donut!
jesus christ marlvrum change the record yeh?
you said EXACTLY the same thing about Johnny Foreigner.
"I don't see why they have Kinsella references... it's lazy... blah blah"
Both Johnny Foreigner and Hot Club De Paris and This Town Needs Gun and etc. etc. like Villareal and Kinsella's guitar playing and thus play in a similar fashion. Therefore the comparison is valid because they DO SOUND A BIT ALIKE.
"I just don't see it at all"
Then your ears are stuffed full of shit.
Thankyou, goodnight.
hmmm
yes, Eyes Wide Terrified is out this week and that. Still, I'm sure most of you knew that!
the opening track
of DL is the best song Bob has written in absolutely years.
There are 3 or 4 other great, great songs on this record too.
well
they don't really do they? i love both bands and can't see the comparison at all other than the fact a girl sings, there are some drums, there is a bass guitar in both bands, they both loosely play "rock" and there are some minor notes here and there.

I saw Beestung Lips play in Birmingham once and was completely put off by their showy/camped up vocals. Missed them this time though, so can't comment.
I was also at this gig and while you're right on Bossk, I think you're way off the mark on Envy. Agreed that the more post-rock stuff can seem generic, but then a band like Bossk are just as bad; they would never even exist without Isis.
On top of this, Envy's vocals aren't convincing?! His vocals on record and live are immensely passionate. Whether he can sing or not is debatable, but his screams sound like he has swallowed glass.
Apart from one very shit track (dull post-rock intro, dull song), I thought Envy were astounding.
Gringo..
..how could I forget. You've done some ace records.
Jealous Are Amazing
Not a bad release so far. But perhaps lack the commercial intent to do a lot more than please an underground audience.
Also worth remembering that Ian ran Subjugation before Jealous and they released Spy Vs. Spy, arguably the best British "emo" band ever.
I think he is right to some extent
50 Cent might be the worst example to kids since, say, that very naughty Chucky doll. I remember reading prime cunt The Game say something silly recently like "Now I'm rich it doesn't mean that I'm going to play by the rules of those pigs. Will I adhere to the law from now on? Why should I."
And while our UK artists aren't quite so gun-hungry lyrically, more UK kids are listening to Fiddy et al than conscious home grown talent anyway.
On the David front; he looks foolish in that sidecar but I'd still I'd rather have anyone (literally almost anyone) as my PM than the autistic lump of a man that is Gordon Brown.
I'm just thinking of
Duff Muffin. This was a long time ago anyway. I was more into straight ahead punk then.
-
Great, great label. Though I still remember how they started out doing a whole load of ska-punk. Or at least that's what I used to get in the post.
I think everyone went through the ska-punk stage. If you didn't, well done - you're clean.
-
more of you should own this. lord ive been on fire is a gem.
barry kent?
the majestic bastard. yours, adrian mole.
my girlfriend
just got off tour with battles. john stainer turned to her - about an inch from her face - and asked her to wind the windows down.
this alone struck her with fear.
are Suede emo?
YOU DECIDE.
are you a nutsack?
that manson quote is silly but how you can deny MCR's links to emo (at least in the modern sense of the word) is ridiculous. have you seen their new video? that gerard way crying into the camera like a right tart.
i like cap'n'jazz and mark kozelek's voice. i am going to bed.
i didnt even know them properly
but, agreed, they played the best set i saw all weekend.
I really like Mogwai
but, seriously now, grow up Barry. I'd love to hear someone drunkenly rant all of that in a pub but a sober man? Typing to the world? Plus he's clearly old enough to know better.
Blur: Are Shite was a no-brainer publicity stunt too. How can they accuse Keith of the same behaviour when they do it themselves?
The Stones might well be a bit standard (they certainly never caught me as anything special anyway) but I find Keith quite affable in interviews. If you look at the band's career there are all manner of stories, incidents, anecdotes and memorable quotes. In comparison, Mogwai have just left a trail of bad words.
Oh, and Zidane was boring as sin. They should hurry up and do something interesting again. If they even can.
i genuinely think
his solo album will be better than any recent oasis material. he's the best songwriter in that sinking ship by someway. he also knows it. there's pride in putting your own name to it. i dont think he'd dare make it cack.
it probably will be, but i'd like to be suprised.
I spoke to Tone on the phone a couple of months back..
..he is an affable cockney. me old mucker etc. etc.
but..
..spitting venom is the best song on there?
at the same time
give the reviewer a break. it is just one man's opinion. biffy do seem to polarise people. and in all fairness the workers in my office thought the single was by the foo fighters too until they were told otherwise.
the song itself
is weak. but to call biffy unoriginal just isn't fair. they push the boundaries far more than many of their contempories, ableit not on this or the last single, and to have such a band given major record company backing is actually credit to all their hard work in the past.
most biffy songs have more ideas than a lot of bands put in 4 or 5. well, not battles or don caballero but you know what i'm saying.
i'd rather have the dhansak
and i'll have a naan please. and some salad with mint sauce. and a saag aloo. and some bhajis. and some pilau rice.
i'll spend the change on some tinnies.
I love them
My music tastes have moved on, but they are one of the few bands from those eras that I still go back to. Idea Track is just as unbelievable now as it was then.
.....
Fierce Panda deserve all the credit they get. Lovely and down-to-earth guy Simon too.
amen to that
true. and finn's solo stuff was hit and miss, but with some beautiful songs there too.
Hark!
One of their best songs is actually on none of their albums. But instead on their split with Jebediah.
"No Sensitivity". Track it down, it's fucking ace.
they were my favourite band for a long time
Clarity still stands up as a brilliant record. No really.
Yes
And from the copy KRS sent me, it's something to get excited about. Even if my friends do think it is Mew everytime I play it.
....
Well said, that single is a bit gash.
....
It was a good list. Well done.
Good choice of Q and Not U record too.
I'd have had Faraquet's "The View From This Tower" in there as well, but I suppose only me and about 12 other people have heard it.
great news
blue screen life is one of my favourite records ever and this band are one of my favourite bands ever.
so, yes, i'll be buying this.
....
arguably the new album is even better. get excited.
no backward glances

Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies - Ores
Floppy disks are impractical.
F*cking A! It's The F*cking Champs!
They are also responsible for the split 7" pairing up two of the best band names ever:
The Fucking Champs/Tight Bros From Way Back When
Towers of London: the cuckin funts get arrested
i thought they were mindless good fun.
