Boards of Canada mixed with Look Around You

Is how I was describing it to people. Great album, perhaps a little bit disjointed in places with the flow, but not really an issue. I actually prefer this to BMSR.

Would've been Quasi...

until they ruined their duo status. I am now favourite duo-less!

imo*

not imp.

imp

Girls Can Tell, then Kill the Moonlight. Wasn't so fussed on Gimme Fiction, and haven't heard A Series of Sneaks.

Sadly agreed

Well, my thoughts perhaps aren't as harsh, but it's definitely not an adventurous album.

I still like it though, and would say there's only one song I really find boring (somewhere near the end, can't remember the title now).

me too

Nothing's really come close to it yet for me, although I haven't heard a lot of these albums mentioned.

now*

clearly

First Electrelane

no Deerhoof?

Did a new edition of the world map come out that highlights Wales come out or something?

first listen - wow this is great

second listen - hmmm
third listen - oh god hurry up and end

Pipettes

obvious answer.

they offer

a load of b-sides and rarities on their site, some of which are really good tracks, especially the b-sides to the Dirty singles. Why hardly any of these appear on the compilation I have no idea. It's really annoying because I'd happily pay to have a cd full of those songs, but from what I can tell the majority of the actual compilation is from the most recent albums.

Here's the mp3s they offer, in a suitably weird layout.

A little harsh

It does have it's filler moments, but I think a 7 or maybe even 8 would be appropriate; it's a good album.

I found the same

It's exactly like listening to the album, which is good and all, but I could do that at home.

Finally

a festival within walking distance. That's how it should be.

Some way

to hide/collapse the messages that were there last time I looked on the boards/comments.

Slash/slash.

Or

Get the adblock extension for Firefox, then you don't even have to see it.

I've listened

twice now and I'm a little underwhelmed. It's not crap and there's some interesting stuff going on, but it seems like it could be better.

Is it a grower?

The album's been

er, acquirable, for a while now. I've heard of some people having it for 2 months already. I'm not one of them of course, naturally I'm going to wait 'til release day.

Nice review

wrong rating. This is a song the 10 out of 10 gif was made for.

While

they're not quite as good as S-K, Janet was a huge part of why S-K were so good, so this is still great. She's an amazing drummer.

I've been wondering

a lot about this myself.

I've always been very much an album orientated person; listening to the whole album without skipping songs just to get the "experience", and never really buying any singles (except on vinyl because they look pretty).

But lately, almost without meaning to I've become quite song orientated. Having an emusic subscription doesn't help I suppose because that isn't really geared to downloading whole albums - more to sampling a few from albums you might buy - but it actually just results in me not buying albums at all because I can make my own little cd mixes.

The one thing that still holds me back from switching to all digital is that I do like having the album art and proper cd, as pointless as it may sound.

I'm kind of in limbo at the moment, not wanting to go one way or the other, so I hope something will come along to help me decide.

Doesn't this mean

she does it with things other than people?

There's a nice mental image for ya.

I think I speak for everybody

when I say, Phew!

This

Pretty much sums up the discussion.

Next week on DiS: Are Busted more influential than The Beatles?

Is the title

Girl shaped love drug, or Girl shaped loved rug?

I'm gutted

by this news, they were such a great example of the joys of marriage.

Yey!

Another band doesn't come to Wales. Cos no one lives here, obviously.

I agree

Boring as feck first listen, couple of interesting parts I suppose. Will give it a few more listens and hopefully will reveal itself to be something much more interesting, because really with Benson, White + the Greenhornes it should be bloody great.

thanks

for clearing that up, there was me thinking the 3 times I've seen them have been great.

Is the wrong answer

The Pipettes are poptastic and really fun to watch live.

They need to put an album out.

What did you really think?

The review seemed to be a bit on the fence.

Quasi-lite

No direct mention of Quasi as an influence?

Saw them supporting Sleater-Kinney at the Koko and I thought they were quite good, catchy songs, but not that memorable.

They did turn up pretty late to the gig I suppose, can't have helped.

Re: 25 Years of 4AD - Shows galore!

Yey! But just Kristin? Where's Bernard and David!?

25 Years of 4AD - Shows galore!

*Crosses fingers for a Throwing Muses show*

Sleater-Kinney get rocking in August

The Woods is the best album of the year regardless of what has and what will come out for the rest of it. I saw them at the ICA in April and they rocked a lot. I'm a little disappointed that they're playing such a big venue in London; the website says it holds 1500 which seems a bit mad for S-K, despite their growing popularity. I'll be there though, because I hate festivals.

Re: Celebrity news spew: Chris Martin, Britney Spe

You're not kidding.

"I don't think people associate Coldplay with excitement necessarily - but, believe me, we could sound a lot more bland."

Does he even like the band? He makes it sound like he's in this crap situation and just making the best of it. Well, obviously he is, but surely publicly announcing this isn't the best way to promote yourself?

Sleater-Kinney

Was at the ICA gig. Fucking fantastic, nothing like them out there at the moment.

Come As You Are (but please drive safe)

"A memorial committe, created last year, had petitioned for the establishment of a youth centre or park in Cobain's memory, but eventually settled for the sign."

Bloody hell, someone needs to teach these people about haggling.

- "We want a fine youth centre or a park for the children to play in, built in the memory of Kurt Cobain!"
- "How about a sign?"
- "Whatever."

Quasi tour in April

Glad I don't rely on DiS for my Quasi news, this tour's been announced for months!

Going to the Bristol gig, which is easier than London.

Glad they're headlining this, saw them supporting Stephen Malkmus at Shepherds Bush last time. All the way to London to see a support act, ugh.

X-Rated: Coldplay name album & single

Interpol and Supergrass supporting Coldplay? Surely this should be the other way round.

Re: Mclusky split

Ah, no. I see the simpe mistake you've made here. The Pixies were good, thus deserving of the attention after they split. Mclusky are shit, and will disappear into oblivion where they belong.

Charlotte Hatherley - Kim Wilde

Holy crap. I've listened to this song about 10 times in the last few hours, it is so damn catchy. If the album is all like this I'll be buying it the day it comes out.

Morrissey - Irish Blood, English Heart

Nice song, but a bit short, isn't it? Saw it on MTV2 and it hardly seemed like any time passed between the title coming up at the beginning and then at the end.

Re: Goldie Lookin' Chain

Is the correct answer.

Electrelane - The Power Out

Fantastic, initially quite good but takes a few listens to really appreciate it. I think anywhere else the drumming would be considered a little too samey, but here with this type of music it works perfectly. I also like the addition of vocals to the music. It's definitely got an atmosphere, one that's quite different to Rock it to the Moon but interesting none the less and the vocals are a big part of it. Don't really have any problems with it apart from the odd song, namely On Parade being too short. I'm not talking the 7-8 minutes songs of the last album, but they could have done with an extra minute here and there. But a small thing that's easily forgotten with the quality of the music.

Some suprising mixing from Steve Albini though, sounds quite clean for him and the choral section in The Valleys is unexpected, but oddly great.
