i am

fairly disagreeable

hmmm

i loved the long blondes first flurry of singles and found STDYH fun, if a little patchy, "couples" on the other hand just seems directionless and slightly lacking in tunes. id be pretty stumped to pick a standout single (centuries aside, which im not really a huge fan of) which seems pretty odd for a band whose fetishistic approach to singles mirrored that of their once- heroes The Smiths.

Im all for progress but "couples" just seems generally really odd and ill-conceived, and i was pretty suprised at how patchy erols production was given his previously sterling work on their b-sides. for me the album is a step sideways not forwards, albeit a brave one.

Agreed on Ms Jacksons vocals though, they've improved massively and for me are probably the best thing about this record. .

Lol

'You’d be sitting there with headphones on, waiting five, ten minutes for someone to press record, and eventually you’d walk in the control room and the engineer’d be on the phone talking to someone about gong meditation. It was bullshit, you can’t make a rock ‘n’ roll record surrounded by these kinds of idiots.'

brilliant

Used to be great

but not too sure i care about them since they lost the drummer and porno bassist

Yes I saw it!

Im not usually the one to get emo about things but I found it really moving. As someone to whom music plays a huge part of my life seeing someone who was obviously talented and passionate about writing/recording/music in general, suddenly have it all taken away via a stroke was crazy.

I really hope he makes a full recovery.

The documentary before whose witty title escapes me was really good too covering postcard recs etc

I disagree

The album is amazing, blows the limp No Wow out the water and is atleast on a par with the debut, even if it's totally different. I think another album of retrogressive suicidesque garage blues would have consigned them to irrelevance and the new stuff is a big step forward for them...

MKK3

does sound a bit rakes actually, thought it was quite an oddity on the album. '...you were fucked off etc..'. might have just been left on for the michael barrymore line

ive got a promo copy

cos im reviewing it for some other website.

it's everything you could have hoped for and more, trust

Nah,

thats gotta be Dr Dre's 'Detox'

Not a Sin

The first album is amazing, anyone that disagrees is categorically wrong. He has been declining ever since tho...

Ace review

ace album

Great

review

..

A lack of commas perhaps

tis a shame

I loved the singles and having not previously had the opportunity to see them live Ill be at that last gig for sure.

Dont really get the hatred though, Huggy Bear informed Bass driven boy/girl Lo-fi No Wave, whats not to like?

This album

is (very) slowly becoming the new Chinese Democracy

Saw

Dan Deacon play at White Heat a couple of weeks ago as the 'secret guest', the man is absolutely phenomenal live

L

MAO

Girls Aloud

Covering The Stooges 'I wanna be Your Dog' with Xenomania producing, surely that would have been the one...
An opportunity missed.

They do

Teenage Dirtbag live, unfortunately, like the original it's pretty abhorrent sub student union fodder

Cos

Bands like these and The View have tallied the attributes of successful mainstream indie bands of the last 5 years, found the average and ran with it, the appeal (for now atleast), unlike the music itself, is unquestionable. Mercifully Id happily bet that these bands never get past a second album..

I really hope this is the last in the line of bands of this ilk, the lineage of Strokes/ Libertines bands is now so watered and the reference points now so narrow it sounds like bands are looking no further than last years soundalikes for inspiration.

Please let this be the end.

This review

basically sums up The Pigeon Detectives for me..

Lowest common denomentor, NME identikit indie, bereft of any originality, yet theyve honed their schtick to such an extent you wonder if they've been cynically put together by a record company, or even the KLF..

It's

Available on iTunes, other formats have been pushed back till September 'due to unforseen circumstances'

NB

This tune does come into its own live though

Not a patch on

My Favourite Hat, but good all the same..

Will be interesting to see how XX Teens hold up over the course of an album, could either be amazing or absolutely terrible

Much better

than I feared it might be...

I do miss the days of Andy Huxley though
