sorry for the double post
apologise for the spelling in my last comment, was late.
missed out on point last night,
it was the best live show i have ever seen, and he is a genius, so it makes me think that he should have definetly got a ten, it such a mesmerizing original live show, i cant imagine anything being better, and maybe DiS doesn't agree one THAT point, but surely the sound he creates and the presence of the man warrants a ten.
i cant imagine anything more deserving of full marks to be honest.
just come back from the manchester acedmy gig.
i saw him earlier on in the year at the club academy, was the best gig i ever went to, this time with a full abdn and i also brought my dad along, bird didn;t dissapoint.
top class, up their with the first, there is nothing like this guy live.
plus he alwasy hangs aroudn the merch stand straight after to chat, he is a great guy and a godly musician.
people need ot se ehim, whether they have heard (/of) him or not.
i need to see them,
but we bought ticks for andrew bird before finding out and its too close to get a lift to both of them.
i hope they come back soon, either way i will see them, one day.
courage in his song writing abilities?
so what your saying is his whistling was a ploy on '...eggs' to hide the fact that the songs behind this were not very good?
i never knew whistling was such a powerful and influencial instrument.
overall both albums are on par in my opinion. eggs is more classically influenced where as this LP is slightly more grounding in brilli9ant pop songs.
i cant choose between them myself.
saw him earlier in the year
he was solo and ti was the best gig i have ever been too for pue genius and a masterful performance with two loop pedals.
this full band while i doubt will top that will give me a chance to see a new type of live performance from this absolutely amazing artist
wow mike....
im not supporting this very bad program with braindead judges, no doubt.
but this article is not really an article, its a rant.
its funny i dont usually come to DiS for the rants,
you realise you will make more people watch this piece of shit program now?
i agree with the score
but that review is a load of pretencious crap.
instead of hiding your word in crappy analgoies just come out and say whats wrong with the album.
it doesn't make you a worse reviewer to do so
Do not agree atall
which is becoming a regular occurance on thsi site.
ignore the bloody record label and listen to the album.
its brilliant, just as good as their previous in my opinion.
definetly not too long either, and the shouting is the best bit as his voice is edgya nd emotional.
when someone who is reviewing modest mouse says their too much shouting, then he really doesn;t get what they are about.
lol
the reviewer should get perspective
your angry at biffy clyro for being unoriginal!?!?!?!?!!
sure they aren;t the most original band you will see but i think about a gazillion other albums are less original than them.
great review, so great that i just may not take your opinion seriously again
im sorry but
you have given many much inferior post rock albums 9s and 10s.
its more than an eight,
maybe they have not evolved so much, but its much harder for a post rock band to evolve without totally destroying what they had in the first compared to a full band with vocals, as they can evolve there music but the vocals will still give off the same mood of the band.
there was progress in the first three albums, but that does not contradict my point, they were gelling and becoming better at their instruments, getting used to the studio environment etc.. they were always gonna reach a point where they're progression was gonna slow down.
they still matter?
.......
aereogramme are exceptional. your last paragraph is totally irrelavent to the whole review.
maybe they will be big......maybe they will one day play the MEN.
EITS are the scene leaders
and i think this alum will elevate the scene into something very big.
its hard to imagine bands like elivium and explosions being as big as say blkoc party or others but i think it willl happen in the near future,
there instrumental rock everywhere now, albeit many of those bands really aren't creative or clever.
a great instrumental song is more emotional than anything and its why its my fav genre.
thie is GREAT
yeah another top release from temporary residence.
im just waiting for the new explosions album to get the ten it deserves from you guys,
dom
until you have met them and seen them write and record you cant say that they 'think they're cool'
by the way i am not a fan, i haven't heard anything from them.
i just agree that with jez that NO review should be based on whether the sounds and instruments used are cool right now.
its the music, which maybe isn;t that good......but say THAT instead of accusing them of thinking they are cool when you dont know them at all.
example of major label ruining.
their first album is great. but the second sucks and im guessing there third will too.
The past two were GREAT
but this sound just like the band went into the studio, improvised for one hour' then touched it up and released it.
god knows they are ace at improvising, but i dont want it for one hour and it being all there is.
BRILLIANT
thi album is just brilliant.
i didn;t think it was as good as UOb until after heaing it 8 times. now i think its just as good , maybe a bit better.
i did say a while ago. if DiS didn;t give this album at least a 9 out of ten i would never visit this site again.
i see you guys didn't fail me ;)
This album is great
no bad track, i have really enjoyed it.
i would have given it 8-9 out of ten because for what it is.....an electro album its brilliant.
he is a twat
thats all that needs to be said. (note my judgement has been reached after watching him on several interviews and comment, not just this one)
Great writing in the review
and i totally agree with the score.
its an alum full of fast and slow songs, all of which are very very good.
sao paolo is simply fantastic, and i cant help but smile throughout the whole of were here when im listening to it.
its a great uplifting, creative album,
and i dont think it is overproduce (i dont think its underproduce either though)
ummmm
the music is simple, the vocals are absolutly ordinary (for this type of music)
and for it to get a ten!!!!!!!!!!!!
GREAT CD!!!!!!
I dnt agree with your comments on desperate youth. Their previous albums was JUST as good as this.
nice
CURSIVE ARE ONE OF THE BEST BANDS AROUND
i have been a massive fan since their first album. they have grown amazingly since then and their new album due out the end of august called happy hollow is their best and most expansive yet.
people expect the ugly organ part 2 will be shocked. it is VERY different to any of their previous albums and proves once more just haw brilliantly dunamic and clever they are.
i have been listening to it non stop aswell as relistening to the older stuff as im in the mood for it.
seriously people, its such a good album, that is DiS give it anything less than a 9 i will be utterly shocked.
i love circa
cause of ant green however live it is not great
i could not hear a word
anyway to move on,
i have had this album for a month, and from somone who loves all the bands you mentioned in the review (volcano, anathallo etc.) i have to say this rveiew is a little off,
obviously its your view but my view is simply that this album is full of half arsed attempts at being experimental, many filler tracks a boring and extremely simple. somehting i could put together myself in a short space of time with the right synthesisers and a bit of random rythym loops.
there are some GREAT song on here, but only an eps worth, its like they wrote another ep and filled it in with random noises and fun things to make it a full length.
listen to volvano and then to this and you will see what i mean, volcano so it for their sound, SOAF do it so they can look all cool and fil in a bit more to make the album seem longer.
i have tried my best to get into it and will listen to it from start to finish here and there but it just doesn't impress me as much as the many other great epxerimental rock albums out this year.
also (no relevance) thom yorkes record is brlliant, great minimalist electronica.
i have been a fan for ages
i loved their debut album to bits (or michaels debut ;))
and i just go hold of the new albuum advance, and may i say, it is simply awe inspiring,
brilliant consistant album clocking in at an impressive 1 hour and 6 minutes,
i dont want them too, but they will inevitably blow up now (especially with V2's support)
PLEASE PEOPLE, GET THEIR DEBUT, AND THEN PREORDER OUT OF THE ANGELES
ps: his voice reminds me of daniel johns,
damn!
that short set lew me away, as did their pulse DVD, wish wish wish i could see it first hand,
big poo it is, big poo
Coheed and Cambria - Keeping Secrets Of Silent Ear
deserves four because it is original, and no it is similar, but song structure musically and harmony wise it is very very differnt,
mind oyu i would be stupid to expect a reviewer for DiS to get opast the 'his voice sounds similar' stage and not bother listening to the harmony lyrics or music,
wow you guys really can suck sometimes
Avenged Sevenfold - City Of Evil
THIS!?!?!?!?
LOL
DiS is losing the plot
2.5 would have been too much
Martin Grech - Unholy
you listen to the debut and tell me it isn't ace,
and its a pretty cheap blow, i bet you listened to shit music when you were younger, but even if i knew i wouldn;t throw it in your face.
but as a review it sucks,
Martin Grech
must have been one bad show for 2.5, especially when martin grech is notorious for his amazing live shows,
why review it if you dont like the music?, give it to someone with imagination and an open mind, oh wait do you have any poeople like that working on this site?
Martin Grech - Unholy
i am a big fan (not the biggest) and i know that he has progressed here, some of the songs outshadow 50% of open heart zoo imho,
some of the albums you give 4-5 i am sure would contradict your above point of not progessing much.
Martin Grech - Unholy
you call that a fair review, you gonna give it two cause it aint easy to get into?, give it a week of solid listening and the least it deservs is a three,
pathetic review, one of the worst i have seen on this site for a long time and that saying somehting,
go back to listening to the new coldpay album.
Smog - A River Ain't Too Much Love
i woudn't want it nay other way though
Ryan Adams: Glasto, UK gigs and new LP
please no more rock n shit!
ATD-I anthology finally sees the light of day
anooys me is all, i have already putt ogether two of my own atdi compilations, and it didn't cost me £10
Mars Volta to release one-track album
whenever i listen to the album i never skip tracks or pick one out. never.
i am way more excited for this now. this is a statement of their originality and this should be apreiciated if not liked by many of their fans.
they should be grateful bands as big as mars volta only release an album every two years......i would kill for a 77 minute track from this band anyday. i am expecting sometyhing very very epic.
imagine the live show. they will play some old tracks and then improv on this album for about 30 mins.
they are genius and although it wont attract the mainstream (thank god) it will do very well.
i just hope a lot of the fans feel the same way i do.
OH ONE HIT WONDER??????? a band of this calibur can NEVER write a bad album (or in this case song)
and MASS......they are pushing the limits of music and that warrant arrogance.......(evben though i dont think they are being arrogant)
i am now so hyped for this album
come on march 05

Copperface - Tooth And Nail
The Dears - No Cities Left
i will hopefully get ella guru album tomorrow (prays!!)
two great albums in a few short days (i hope)
good times...good times.
Taking Back Sunday - Where You Want To Be
this is very good music. which great vocalists and well written songs. i think it is worse than the first but still very good.
i hate the plain old emo pipeline but this is great.
Muse's Glasto single for Oxfam
if the band went away for a year or two and really tried something big and new it would turn out to be a revalationin british rock music. thats guarenteed. they have the talent they just need to go and do it.
Minus The Bear - Highly Refined Pirates
i only come accross album like that once in a year or so. i dont know why it happens. reggie are great though.
JoJo - JoJo
;)
Soundtrack legend dies
also nitin sawhney is a great song writer. he does his own albums and man soundtracks also.
Modest Mouse - Only the squeak survive
if you like them a lot you should then go through their whole back catalogue!
Dogs Die In Hot Cars - Please Describe Yourself
i think you will find it is please describe yourself...sometime i think i could do this job well and better than some of you.
but in all seriousness this album is good!
not a 4.5 stars one though. may deserve 4 stars because it is original but i think that the rest of the album doesn't compare to godhopping. and when you give other albums that are creative like mondo 3.5 stars it makes me confused.
i respect the mondo album although i do not enjoy that type of music fully. and believe it is on par intrumentally and creatively with this album.
Kid606 - Who Still Kill Sound?
Re: Disturbed - Music As A Weapon II
lol taproot good....i did enjoy their debut but that was in the good old days when i was still impressed with linkin park!!
thank god my musical taste has matured into something at least a bit more respectable.
i have thrwown out countless album (or sold on ebay!) bacause of my horrible taste two years back....taproot is one of them.
and yeah good review really captures the overproudced uncreative crap hat is on the cd.

heh.....
good review.
this band are greta to listen to when you're on a long walk on a nice day, sound corny but it really cheers you up and puts you in a great mood.
it wont be in anyone's top ten of the year, but it still has its beauties.
i personally can listen to this and their debut any time. its good when i just want to relax and forget about everything.
