These lot are an awesome band.
...with a really refreshing sound. They were great when I saw them play in London and seemed like nice fellows to boot!
You're too young
to be using the word 'gash'.
All we need now...
...is for Les Savy Fav to play and my perfect line-up* is complete....
*I'm assuming a Pavement reunion isn't going to happen.
I couldn't go to either of the ATPs this year
But this more than makes up for it. Not least it's happening in Barcelona and not some shitty holiday resort!
Really looking forward to see Grizzly Bear and Slint...
"If you're mixed-race, and a girl, we want to hear from you."
heh. like these boards have any
a) girls
b) non-white people* ...
*actually being a non-white myself I kind of contradict myself
Lisa: "Mum! Bart's Dead!"
Bart: "That's right - dead serious about going to Itchy And Scratchy Land!"
Well, he comes from ...
a tradition of Hip-Hop that stresses the pedagogical function of rap. Which is why he might comes across as a 'self-regarding cock', though I think this is misreading what he is trying to do.
Black on Both Sides
Is one of my favourite hip-hop albums of all time. His last one was a bit shit however. Whatever happened to the Rawkus scene? It all went a bit shit which is a massive shame...
The first awesome...
....use of mandolin since Losing My Religion
It that is true...
...oh dear
That interview
in Plan B was really revealing in the way it showed the difficulties of being on major. I still think they'd have been better off on indie (and maybe sign to a major later). They must have soooo much pressure on them. Are they ready for it? I mean, they;re cool for sure, but are they really going to sell tens of thousands of records? I wish them the best of luck...
YES
WHEN ARE THESE ON SALE?!?!
With regards to the guy...
...who shouted out 'anti-semite' at David Cross, er...that was my mate, and he was being ironic. Or so he says. Cross' reaction was funny I thought.
According to Nathan from the Gossip
that Asian yank dude had taken acid everday for the last two months. I'm surprised he wasn't more 'zany'.
I still get really emotional when I think of that weekend. Why can't everyday be like ATP?
I went to a...
...drum shop the other day and the guys in there were listening to metal. But not the newer artier stuff (I'm no expert but there's definitely a scene of bands doing interesting things within the metal genre), but 90s thrash metal. Like Megadeth. I found that a bit depressing. Like when I found out my mate still listens to the Wonderstuff.
Brace
I don't mean to sound like a bragging arsehole (too late!) but I know Brace Payne and he said he's going to introduce me to the Sleater Kinney girls at ATP.
I am so happy.
From what I hear...
...I don't think Treacey is riding that high at the moment.
I miss Selectadisc...
...it was so much cheaper than Sister Ray.
As always...

Woman's Gotta Have It...
Is one of the best British albums of the 90s but made the mistake of being released at the height of whiter than white Britpop. If your only impressions of Cornershop is Brimful of Asha and the leftfield indie pop/dance/country/sitar hybrids that followed check out their first two albums when they were a nihilistic-lo-fi-brown-noise-riot-grrrl act....
That Iron & Wine...
...and Calexico album is sublime. Glad it got some recognition.
"secular, stadium sized anthems"...
...."secular"? As opposed to 'godly' stadium-sized anthems?
Drowned in Sound is Recruiting!
Stewart Lee - True Lee, Mad Lee, Deep Lee
One of the most underrated things about Stewart lee is his encylopedic knowledge of incredibly obscure, leftfield, underground contemporary American bands.

Popworld's Amstell to join Xfm
Anyways I don't mind him so much these days. It was funny when he came out during an interview with Beenie Man. Beenie's gobsmacked reaction was hilarious.
Also Kele from Bloc Party used to go to another school I went to. When he was really small he interviewed my sixth form band for some fanzine he was writing. I still have it somewhere. Did you know his real name is Roland? I can't believe he changed it!
dEUS return with a Pocket Revolution
Black Mountain - Black Mountain
It's still weird they're supporting Coldplay. I am not criticising their ambition but I cannot see much crossover appeal.

I think DiS is perfectly entitled to veer into other projects - and the more independent record labels committed to exposing new music the better. But when the frontpage is dominated by its own bands it undermines the supposed 'neutrality' of the editorial product. I think there is some very underrated writing within these here pages but I definitely think cynically about the constant promotion of redjetson and thisgirl or whoever. It means I treat DiS as an occasional place to visit but not as a conclusive webzine I trust and base my musical purchases on.
It's not an issue about DiS becoming bigger/becoming capitalist pigs(?!); again any form of independent publishing that can sustain itself is a remarkable acheivement considering the unforgiving nature of the market -if DiS becomes bigger (and stays true to its ideals) then fucking brilliant. But it is my personal belief that certain things should be kept seperate (that is the label and the site) if we are to take the editorial seriously.
The Sound Explodes through March and April
Good luck to the fellas though

DiS could really sort out their gig guide. Anyway of listing gigs as a calender which is easy to browse as opposed to randomly selecting a date and seeing if there's anything interesting going on?
Re: The Arcade Fire - Funeral
Ikara Colt: our 5 year sell by date is up
But sad about Ikara Colt. Never really loved them but they were like the UK Blonde Redhead so always had a soft spot.
And as debut singles go, Sink Venice is right up there...

Last year's one was shit
The weather didn't help but it was pretty badly organised. The line-up is probably better this year mind....
