No Brighton date!
booooo.
I havent heard all the records on there
but the ones i have heard i dont like. Personally i've loved:
Brakes
Fanfarlo
Jarvis
those being just three.
theres plenty of UK artists
who could have been written about who actually do play country or alt country. Unlike the ones mentioned above.
Nice review
and a fantastic album. Best i've heard so far this year.
I really like the album
not sure if as much as World Apart though but i shall give it time. I agree with the point made about the sound though - its all a bit cluttered.
I really liked 'Lie Down In The Light'
so am willing to give this one a try as i quite like his country type stuff.
Muddy Suzuki - 'Meetoo'
on Drift Records for me. Its crazy but great!
Id say its definately better than a 5...
but by no means great. Theres some really good moments but also 3-4 pretty dire songs, and lyrically some of it makes me cringe!
My view:
M83 - boring, boring, boring. Doesnt absolutely nothing for me what so ever.
Good to see Bad Seeds highly placed but suprised by no Wave Pictures. But basically this list doesnt even touch on my year musically, but then again i wasnt expecting it to.
For me Half Man Half Biscuit, Euros Childs, Lambchop, Tindersticks.
Damn right.....Wave Pictures arent getting a mention anywhere!
and i think the M83 album is extremely boring. Doenst float my boat in any means what so ever.
the second disc
if fecking ace! Love it.
Hmmm
my initial love affair with Glasvegas is well and truly over. Find them kinda boring now. Put on the album for the first time in ages yesterday and its stupidly overblown and overproduced.
I bought this on strong reccomendations
but find it really really boring.
new Pogues or Shane MacGowan material
- New Teenage Fanclub record thats better than the last one.
- Jesus & Mary Chain playing a show i can actually make it to!
- Kevin Ayers to play live.
Quite rubbish
crap vocals, horribly polished and ever-so treny boring sound.
Pretty much says it all really
a bit shit.
Kaiser Chief takeover week?!!
I was hoping that was a joke. Oh dear.
The more i listen to this album
the more im getting conviced it could be my favourite of the year (so far).
Excellent interview.
And 'Holy Pictures' is an excellent record. Buy it!
Its all about Euros Childs
tomorrow night for me. Should be ace. Hopefully he'll have copies of his new record on sale too.
It was Eamon from Brakes'
wedding reception in the Swedish tent on the Saturday afternoon hence why his wife was wearing a wedding-type dress.
Ace festival though - everyone from Modern Overns through to Dirty Three were quite brilliant.
Interesting record
not as instant has 'Bow Down to the Exit SIgn' but after a few listens it all starts to make sense.
Crikey
talk about a cliched video - playing in a small room crammed with lots of dancing 'fans' going a bit mental.
^^ well said ^^
pretty much agree with that
Also....
i know its been said before but im still very suprised Frightened Rabbit werent even on the list.
Rubbish
but there we go, i voted for Robert Wyatt although he never stood a chance of winning the thing.
I agree
the version of 'Stabbed' is pish!! 'Ice Cream Van' seems pretty pointless too. Aside from that the rest of the songs are excellent.
Like it
but after listening to demos for the past 6 months or so the album sounds terribly over-produced.
Ahh i loved this album!
Must did it out and listen again.
Nice
Top marks for picking Shane & The Popes. Crock of Gold is a great record.
Argh
for some reason this band reeeally annoy me.
^ this ^
its absolutely dire.
my local record store
didnt have this yesterday. Dammit! Shall have to wait till later in the week.
Sounds good
from the tracks i've heard. Should make for an interesting listen.
I think the tour
could well be with Times New Viking and No Age from what i've heard.
Yey i like this album
much much more than Bright Eyes stuff.
Much more countrified. Nice.
hmmm
Obviously everyone would have their own views on who should be on any list but i would have liked to see
Edwyn Collins
Euros Childs
Kevin Ayers
Tindersticks
Richard Hawley
But then i guess none of the above are particularly DIS type bands / artists.
Shit, i forgot about Frightened Rabbit too....
where the hell is it?!!!!
Not a great list....
but i'll go for Robert Wyatt.
Brilliant!
LOVE this band!
Yes to this!!
TWO Brighton dates too. Ace.
Have keen caning their 'Sophie' album the past week - good stuff.
Pah
Dire song.
Richard Hawley
Edwyn Collins
Kevin Ayers
As outside bets to get nominated.
Its not a bad album
but c'mon...it hasnt really got any massive standout songs on it and they have done much much better.
Perfect case of over-hype.
Dissapointing album
Not any really strong tracks in my opinion. Shame as they can be sooo good.
Evil Heat
was pretty good in places. Since then though - yep - pretty pretty poor.

Well...
Its a solid record this whith some really really good moments. Yes, there are a few weak tracks but overall its a fine piece of work and a nice step onwards from 'I Dream Of Black'.
Oh just to point out that and the track you so liked is actually called 'Accidentaly Like a Martyr' and is a cover of a Warren Zevon song.
