I really like Bombay Bicycle Club

but I agree that the album is pretty poor and very disappointing - it certainly does not live up to the promise of their early stuff ... I put this down mainly to Jim Abbiss' awful production - they never sounded a bit like Editors/Interpol before he got involved, more like Television/The Smiths ... I sense the hand of a major record company looking for a radio-friendly sound ... shame

great article Adam

now please sort out another UK Swervedriver gig - I missed the last one

I can't fathom their appeal

maybe I am lazy, but I've heard their records and seen them live and far from sounding anything like the replacements or hüsker dü (both bands I love) or even springsteen (I'm no fan but can appreciate his stuff) they just sound like bruce hornsby and the range to me

then again, I always thought whiskeytown sounded like deacon blue

they should be remembered

as a bunch of chancers fronted by a twatty Emo Philips look-a-like doing a laughably bad Mick Jagger impression

A)

Super Furry Animals

maybe it's because

they don't do on sale until tomorrow

'The Past Is A Grotesque Animal'

it does seem a bit of a brave/daft move

they are doing a lot of in-stores which should bring in a few punters - had an exhibition of MBV photos last night with free wine and Maps/Sonic Cathedral DJs ... and the staff are friendly (with a ratio of about two per customer) and they have listening posts to check out their limited stock

I hope they do survive - it's practically next door to where I work, so I'll be popping in regularly

I doubt that he'll play any festivals

he tends to be very fussy about the venues he plays

I saw him when he last played London a few years ago - cost a fortune but was well worth it ... will definitely try to catch him again
