not so much progressive folk

as post folk methinks.
I love being pretentious about genre

Its true , he is a genius

I saw him on friday in Glasgow and it was simply beautiful. he even played the childcatcher. Does anyone have a spare ticket to either of the Barrowlands shows because i NEED to see him again. NEED. He didn't play Paris!

mmm

Do you think he was in earnest when he said that. Perhaps so, after all, most Americans don't understand the great British qualities of modesty and irony.

I feel that

the whole uppercase 'D' lowercase 'i' uppercase 'S' on every single 'discover' could get annoying. Just me?

I would

have given up on this site if the review had been any kinder.

I'm don't

appreciate them as much right now as some friends do but they definately grow on you. I think Easy Does It and Fire Fire are both excelent tracks though. I say some further listening will be worth it.

Edinburgh is a wart on my ass

compared to Glasgow.

In terms of music scene, obviously.

At least

It's another reason for Aiden to be misserable

I think

I blew my load too soon. I just sent some stuff that I've never read over. grr. Please pick me Crablin, I'll have your babies.

I think

that bell end is two words. But others disagree. It is a gramatical issue under great debate.

I was sure this was going to be crybabyism

but I thought that was hilarious and apropriately self-depricating. I once met an FHM music reviewer at T in the Park and had a drunken argument with him about Ian Brown, and how shit he is. The guy was a lot bigger than me so I ran away when he started to get violent. The point is that the guy was a total idiot so I think the standars for FHM music reviewers is pretty low.

The Arcade Fire

This fucking band. I would be sick of hearing their praise if it wasn't so well deserved. Their live show is simply breathtaking.

Re: Live 8? Not so great

I so Agree. What I thought was really irritating was the fact that the march in Edinburgh was sidelined by Live8. There were more people at that march than at the London Live8 gig. We were marching, we didn't just go to a gig which happened to be making some kind of statement, we were actually using our democratic right of protest.

HOTS Filthy McNasty Gig ToNiTe! (5/3)

first time playing together since death of Jimmi? Don't think so.

Be Your Own PET - Fire Department

Well said.

Re: Redjetson 'Stay Comfortable' Free MP3 Download

I think this sounds like a cross between EINTS and Doves, which should be good but the lyrics seem somehow missplaced.

No Party in the Park 05: Sir Bob takes over

"the G8 summit in Edinburgh" Gleneagles is nowhere near Edinburgh. Its closest to Perth but is in the countryside. pah! Ignorant English.

Re: A quick word about Truck Festival...

I hate the fact that my favourite festival has to be on the opposite side of the country from me. Has it expanded? cos two years ago it was tiny.

Patrick Wolf - Wind In The Wires

Its about time for this review *grumbles*

Re: Mogwai - Government Sessions

Yeah I've got that. It is a fucking amazing track, and it manages to be entirely unpretentious. The solo is pure genius.

Re: DiS: All over your 'net

I want ab adge too, and maybe a t-shirt. Oh I do Love dis.

Re: Franz Ferdy win two NME Awards

Next Year we should make sure that DIS wins best site. I think that in some ways The Others deserve the musical inovation award, not for their music but for guerilla gigging which is a pretty cool idea.

Strip club brawl lands Kid Rock in police custody

I wonder what the song was. I would punch a DJ for putting Kid Rock on. I can't see how it could have been much worse than his own music.

Re: Green Day - Holiday

Connect 4 is the shit. So tactical, so fun.

This year's T in the Park sold-out!

I got a ticket in time but am now slightly regreting it as the line up is crap so far and I bet none of my friends have tickets.

Re: Idlewild - Love Steals Us From Loneliness

I haven't heard this yet but I could tell from the remote part that they were going in a stadium direction and I don't like it much.

Free Valentines Download

I had thought these guys were more hardcore but this is a brilliantly subtle and slightly sinister song, thanks DIS.

Re: Green Day and Foos for T in the Park

This is a pretty damn shit line up so far but I'm hoping for some better acts further down the bill. I'm still going because its such a great party.

Coachella Festival: full line-up includes Cocteau reunion...

Which cunt complained about nothing happening in London? Bloody good Line up though.

The Rise And Fall Of The Scene With No Name

I knew about Mclusky but what happened to Ikara Colt. They, in my opinion were never shit. They were the new sonic youth, the new Clash. In a way though, they were a self fullfilling profecy as back when they released chat and business they said that after five years all bands should be taken round the back and shot. I think that they have greatly influenced bands like Bloc Party and Art Brut. Idealogically especially Bloc Party. Mclusky were such a brilliantly simple band with the spindly guitar and thundering bass. Absolute genius in terms of lyrics, song titles and humour... 'To Hell With Good Intentions' - "My band is better than youre band weve got more songs than a song convention". The will be sorely missed by me and many others, but its the way punk works really isnt it? Band Rock their arses off for 4-5 years and then let new, more advanced bands come and kick their old rocked arses and take their place.

So, What's the ..... of the year?

Record-
Aha Shake Heartbrake - KOL
SMiLE - Brian Wilson (doesn't really count for this year)
Sonic Nurse - Sonic Youth
Killers - Hot Fuss (annoyingly enjoyable)

New Band-
Unoriginal as it is, Bloc party have to win this as they are set apart from all new bands I've heard this year.

Band-
Hope of The States (not quite good enough to be an album of the year but fucking great live)

Festival-
T in the Park (the only one I went to this year)
Truck is a top festival, great community spirit.

Website-
Dis obviously

Magazine-
I could say something cool and indie but the only one I regularly read is the NME, as much as I hate it.

Radio-
Do I even need to say the name

Funniest Band of the Year-
Goldie Lookin' Chain

Neil Young - On The Beach

NME NME NMfuckingE. who gives a shit if you don't like the magazine don't buy it. I happen to agree that it is often very shoddy but how would you know this if you didn't read it? People are so stuck up about this topic and its almost like a must for all indie snobs to hate the NME for liking JET amongst other things.

Guns N Roses - 10 Years on: GN'R - Dust n' Bones?

I don't want to sound like a boaring indie twat but I genuinely think that Tom McRae is very good, increadibly sinister- just how I like it. As for Guns n' Roses, musitianship aside, they were and are shit. They are just ripping of Led Zeppalin and the only value they will ever have is comedy.

Re: Múm - Dusk Log EP

When a set of bands have a paticular sound or feel in common we call this a 'genre' this helps us to describe and categorize it, it is a useful method and is very widespreead. It seems strange that someone should find this meaningless.

Re: Mobos: not homophobic, but are they racist?

I couldnt be bothered to read any of the above but isnt virtually all popular music of black origin as rock n' roll comes from the Black slaves in America?

Re: T in a State: HOTS kicked off-stage?

I was there for their performance and it was short and sweet. They were on fire and then all of a sudden they said they were being pulled which sucked ass. Bloody brilliiant though, I even missed the Pixies to see them which was a shame but I think it was worth it.
