It's from Peep Show

Yay I got a cultural reference. Today is the day that the internet validated me as a person.

Yeah

Bit of a cock up there surely...still I'm excited.

Sounds a helluva lot like Bill Callahan

Which ain't a bad thing

Thankee DiS

As a wholly apathetic individual - an apathete if you will - this is a nicely effort-free way of listening to some of these new-fangled musicky types. Cheers.

Mistakes

Guys check your spelling/syntax/grammar before posting a lead article. It is most unbecoming of you.

Just listened to it

Really liking it, although it could have done with a bit of quality/quantity control. Looking forward to seeing them tonight.

Take That. Oh the beautiful horror.

Here's Gary Barlow trying to rock out to Nirvana.

And here's their inspirational take on Another Brick In the Wall. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7Pf-tFMzAN4&feature=related
Never have mine eyes and ears been so abused. Love it.

Trojan Horse

is up on their MySpace. A damn sight better than Mercury, which let's call a spade a spade - is gashtastic. Reminiscent of Prayer and by the end sounds like BP of old, but i still have a cavalcade of doubts over the quality of the album.

Bruce

has already spoke out in favour of Obama. http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/50013-election-fever-bruce-boosts-barack-rockers-4-novick
He can hardly lose now.....

Come on

that's a great video, slightly ruins the song for me, granted, but still amusing.

They were

ok at Latitude, pleasant if not particularly affecting. I'd still be tempted to give it a listen. Regardless, this is a great review Mr Diver, just manages to steer clear of overt verboseness and puts across an objective, benevolently expressed opinion without sounding tediously non-committal. Props. (Just to be clear this isn't an extended pick-up line...probably).

On their myspace

there's Airport Line, Scratch The Surface and The Good Life, all of which sound really quite interesting. They're supporting Menomena next monday at 93 Feet East, very tempting. Also as i was listening to Airport Line the strings were really reminiscent of a song i knew and then to my shame realised it was the strings from Scandinavian Skies by Billy Joel. I'm so cool.

Just about

to post this very comment. I always thought Tunde was the lead vocalist...

Ah Broken Records

So good. And they were stunning at Latitude. That is all.

Good album

It's very pretty, well constructed, old-fashioned, and attractively presented . Much like Zooey herself.... (I am actually in love with this girl, and feel no qualms expressing the patheticness of that on a cynical music website)

Anyone

in the mood to buy some Air Fusions?

I believe

to put it simply - dude can't spell. [See: boundrys, thir, repetative etc]

Anyway, the line - 'There’s no need to explore the caverns if the carvings on the entrance are what you’ve come for'

Very nice sir.

Video

Song, i like, but yeah kinda AC sounding. Video, quite a lot of nudity to take in in 3 minutes, but it wasn't sexy nudity it was liberated, joyful nudity, but still not sure if it quite worked. Hurm.

Okkervil River

Okkervil River are self-confirmed on their myspace. Spiffy.

Line-up

Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Justin Peroff, Charles Spearin, Sam Goldberg, Amy Millan, and Evan Cranley. So should be ace! I canne wait. Or you might say i canning wait, hoho. What? It's better than the article title...

That Big Weekend video

How can you live with yourselves DiS with the filth of it on your website. 'The KOOKS! and..... Madonna!!!!!' Well fuck me sideways over a deck chair, better get to Maidstone!

Questions

OK it probably is an obvious choice. And suggestions of questions would be welcome.

Interview

The choice i have before me:
Go to an advance London screening of Iron Man

OR

See Mystery Jets in Oxford, meet and interview the band for Oxford paper.

Thoughts?

Amazon

Can be pre-ordered now, now, now! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Skin-Night-Virginia-Ep-%2BDVD/dp/B00166QJKC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1208167847&sr=1-2

I pretty much have to own this. Preview clips at www.thenationalboxer.com.

The line..

...'like some guest at a party whose attention-grabbing antics strike an increasingly manic note until you discover him at 4am weeping softly on the staircase with his knob out' is great, great journalism, i salute you Denney.

It's definately 6/10

Too many of the songs are just completely uninspired, and i'd put 'Neptune's Call' among them. Having said that i like the more echoy pop songs like 'Sunken Treasure' and the single as u say, and 'This Ship Was Built To Last' is very good also, but there are just so many better bands out there i really don't see them having much wider success and as you say its hard to see if that many people will care.

So catchy

That made me a laugh a stupid amount. Just the thought of Patricia Routledge felching, badly. To the grave that will.

^

Made me laugh.

As did the clip, he's an odd child. Although John Hurt reading Peter Andre's autobiography was perhaps more enjoyable

Why not?

It's am amazing album!

As much as i love

Arcade Fire and their live shows, although Neon Bible is a great album it doesn't stand up to Funeral and my best album of the year is The National, and Animal Collective as well possibly. And In Rainbows is a well written, beautiful orchestrated, slightly subdued album it is only top of the list because its Radiohead.

Why

am i such an apathetic retard that i didn't go see them in Oxford when tickets were still available, i didn't have plans and the Academy is a 20 minute walk from my college. Stupid regret. And they'll be bigger next time they tour. Grr on me.

Sister Winter

off Songs for Christmas is one of my favourite Christmas songs now, so much so that i listened to it throughout the year, jsut had to sort of ignore the explicit 'Wish you a happy Christmas' lyrics. I suggest everyone get it right now!

I've got a fever..

..and the only prescription is a slightly underwhelming Klaxonesque chorus.

Seriously

In what way was that a coherent gig review. I feel slightly dirty after reading it.

I love this song

It may not be overly complex but its simplicity is its brilliance. I'd say an 8 to be honest, prob my fav Bejar porno track.

We

as are a nation that appreciates irony. Some would say perhaps too much, and that we lack any collective ability to be straight and blunt. Which leads me to that facts that James Blunt is not a DiS favourite. It was, in fact, irony.

...

To Kill A Mockingbird?

Woo!

Random 1 second clip of Colin Meloy!

I really

want to see them live, grrr, they're playing or have played very recently i forget with Los Campesinos, but no one i know would want to go. DAMN IT.

Furthermore that Volta ad is pissing me off royally, remove it, remove it damn u.

Why

did this^^^ make me laugh so much. I really need to be getting out more.

I like this song

But there are so many other single-sounding and better tracks on the album, namely Le Crabe, Monogamie and Montreal, but regardless Trompe L'oeil is an excellent album that i'm a big fan of and they deserve more exposure over here. Any chance of a review of the album DiS?

Of course not...

...i love the lyrics, and music even when it's at its sparsest. I just feel if you take Mangum's voice away from the lyrics, they wouldn't be anywhere near as powerful.

I shall forgive you in time.

Although a lot of people seem to do it, odd.

It's...

Jeff Mangum, not Magnum. I thought it was Magnum for about a year before i realised i was reading it wrong. But yeah this sounds a little pointless. Most of the genius of NMH was Mangum's unique vocal delivery.

Isle of Shite

The wit took too long to come, sorry.

More like Isle of Bland..

I'm aware that is in no way a cunning pun, but come on, i dont even hate these artists, cept The Feeling, they're just so staid and dull and Kasabian. I can't go to Glasto this year, the rumours so far don't make me burn with anger that I can' go, T in the Park was looking good but new rumours of the View and Snow Patrol have put me off. Damn these dull line-ups. Why don't I live closer to Coachella?

Actually

I agree it was an amazing gig but the first guest wasn't Colin's Uncle, they were taking the piss (tbh i thort it was his uncle until i looked the guy up on the interent). His name is Robyn Hitchcock who, along with Mike Scott of the Waterboys who also performed, is one of Meloy's greatest influence and musical idol. So it was a really special performance, so we must feel special.

I am

Mwahahaha. That is all.

Fair summary

Of a brilliant album. However my main gripe is where the hell is the DiS review????? Slackers, the lot of them.
