actually...that's not entirely fair. I seem to remember Laura Marling not being bad
But London's alt country scene? Pshaw! Go to come down and meet the folks, in the pines, and check out Martin Myer's Bonanza show on resonance...THAT is London's alt country scene- though I personally reckon it was more vibrant four or five years ago.
bf
I was getting all worked up over the fact A/ None of these artists are even slightly alt country and B/ They are all shit- but I see it's already been covered.
I'll get my coat. Shape up. There are plenty of genuine and interesting alt country acts out there to write about.
bf
this is amazing- I boycotted Sister Ray probably ten years ago when it was across the street, after they basically laughed me out of the shop cos I wanted to hear a bit of a track.
Never went back til they started occupying the old selectadisc pitch, and forgot- bought something, and the guy was a total arsehole- at which point it all came flooding back to me.
I only used to go in there from then on to laugh at the ridiculous prices of their muck common fifties and sixties singles they went to the effort of colour photocopying in case someone fancied half inching a knackered copy of 'puppet on a string' or some other such wonder
bf
That's the opposite of my experience.
bf
see- I'd have gone to this regardless of the lineup, just cos I've gone every year since it started anyway, but really, they should have sorted a better lineup.
Archie Bronson were great a few years ago- my all time festival highlight, probably, but basically most of the acts slated for this years were people who have played before, none of whom I'd have been massively interested in seeing, plus a few other acts, who basically aren't very good or interesting. What Manish said about the spirit is true- best vibe of any festival, by a mile, but some decent acts wouldn't have hurt either!
bf
He made some great records...it's a shame he's gonna be best remember for his ex-wifes damning version of events.
I mean, it could all be true, but we'll never know, cos he was legally prevented from giving his 'side' in their divorce settlement.
bf
I love racism and hate music. What is there for me?
bf
I think he's pretty talented. It'd be cool if sometimes he went for just one more vocal take, but I guess that's a sound
bf
Have to say- that was really really fucking stupid. I mean, porn, you can kinda understand someone forgetting they had a jazz mag stuff into their suitcase, but weed? C'mon man! What a 'tard.
I'm also with the promoter, it's not rocket science. Just fly in, play some records and fly out again. No one asked him to bring a little baggy of weed
bf
I haven't downloaded it, cos I think they suck
bf
I think Morrissey/The Smiths suck very very badly, and I'd stand behind everything he's said about the NME with a pitchfork and burning torch.
bf
much as I think Morrissey is a tossbag, I'm sure this is just a desperate attempt by the NME to plug their sinking ship with a bit of publicity.
That magazine sort of reminds me of a 58 year old cabaret singer dancing in the office of a cruise ship booking agent, desperately trying to get a job.
bf
I like Heineken. It's a premium lager
bf
I'd almost buy this out of curiosity. I just can't see how the vinyl side of this isn't gonna be totally trashed by being played as a cd
bf
oh, non member specific. Hmm.
'Superfurryanimal,do you think it is big and/or clever to abandon the former plasticy encasement of your processed potato snacks once you have satisfied your wanton snack lust? I don't, and I'm assuming you don't either, so if a member of your combo were to perform said atrocity, would death a/ Be a sweet relief b/ Come on swift wings or c/ Both of the above'
bf
Then my question to them is:
'Gryff, do you think it is big and/or clever to abandon the former plasticy encasement of your processed potato snacks once you have satisfied your wanton snack lust?'

Let us not forget the George Tavern date as well
I personally think that's going to be the best one, but that's maybe because I'm gonna be dj-ing, and I love the support act
bf
Great single, great artist. Come and see him at the George Tavern whitechapel on the 18th. It'll be superlative
bf
merci xx
They are supporting Kelley Stoltz at the just announced show he's doing at the George Tavern on the 18th, if you fancy coming along to that aussi ;)
bf
pm-ed. RSVP either way please, but no harsh words, cos I'm a sensitive soul and have very vivid nightmares :)
bf
who books this? I'd like to see if they'd put The Outdoor Types on...they are such a killer live act
bf
There might be another date in East London, on the 18th...keep watching this space

jesus...that's fucking rubbish. Have they not mastered the art of robbery WITHOUT shooting people. Fucktards
bf
I can't imagine that too many people in the 'industry' would go to this even if it was free, unless there was no other schmoozefest on that night.
Can't see them selling all those tickets, really
bf
I suspect a case of double Beadle hand
bf
yeah...his solo lps are just bad
bf
my copy is number 87
bf
absolutely fantastic...I love the video as well!
Great great song
bf
humourous yet informative, but a rambling intro loses 2 points
8/10
bf
hehe...I'm not sure I know. Like a slightly worse produced test icicles maybe? I don't listen to that shit
bf
plus this sounds exactly like a load of bands people on here love...
bf
Poor qual...it's a little harsh to single these guys out for abuse
Isn't this cyber bullying?
bf
i like the lead singers haircut. It's sorta phallic
bf
probably, but I do like the idea that a fifty something sixties progger COULD make a great record still...
I think the main problem with older guys making records now is that they use the most recent gear. Musicians over a certain age should be forced to play everything themselves, onto an eight track reel to reel
bf
If only this was the 'east' one...and for a moment I thought Rough Trade the label had signed Kevin Ayers. That would have been cool
bf
Is Frankie Lymon gonna come back from the dead and join them on this one?
bf
You DO advise going there if you don't speak welsh, or is that a typo?
bf
blimey...I used to live near Blaenau Ffestiniog, and from what I recall, it was basically a village amidst giant piles of discarded slate, where you didn't really go if you were English, cos you'd probably get twatted.
Can't imagine that there are many venues there. Wanting to play that area shows an admirable dedication to being welsh. Roll over Meic Stevens!
bf
I bet it was a photo of his knob and he was too pissed to make it a soft lob
bf
I'd like to draw more attention to BG's and yes_'s posts up top
AND to say that Jimi Hendrix is spelled 'Jimi Hendrix', not 'Jimmy Hendrix'
fucken ratfucker
bf
fucking hell, has anyone on the judging panel actually listened to her album, or did they just look at the pictures and read the press pack whilst listening to proper music, by talented people?
bf
yeah, me too. My festival highlight was Archie Bronson Outfit, who were jawdroppingly amazing. I wonder who it will be this year...
bf
maybe the robber was planning to stick a little bit of rizla over the holes in the filter? Or are they different to silk cunts...
bf
he has a point...it pisses me off when people want to photograph/video everything. Removes you from the actual experience
however, that did look pretty darned arsey!
bf
maybe he's sponsored by an international distributor who wants to sell more US pressings in the UK?
bf
He's probably right, on some level, but the act of him saying it, makes me want to listen to misogynistic gangsta rap and commit truancy
bf
you've imagined what 'it' looks like, haven't you lyle.
You can come back from that dark, small, wrinkled place
bf
I was hoping that the reunion tour shock would be a giant electric one that wiped them out...

or maybe its just that I stopped going
