let me type that again!

it's odd to hear roddy talking about this phase for the band without saying how he regrets that he felt he was singing with a nasal american tone. but it's good to hear him being honest about the tracks, attributing some to just sheer youth!

indeed, a good article

i really dislike this move towards "special editions"

i'm a huge fan of idlewiild - but in all honesty, how is charging £15 to be able to obtain their next record justifiable as a "gift" to their fans. i don't want any of the bog(n)us extras, I just want the record, but it sounds like I will have to wait "weeks" for this to happen after this initial release.

as much as i dislike the "stick it to the man" attitude, I really do just see this as a way of getting loyal fans to pay over the odds.

To return to Conway Hall?

As much as I love field day (despite it's obvoius shortcomings) the Homefires stage is really no replacement for the weekend at Conway Hall.... would be great to see it return there in the future.

It simply loses it's intimacy in a larger setting, which is the whole point. And Adem's preimse has always been to "put acts in a venue that suits them" - well a tiny stage that can't cope with the crowds it pulls at Field Day doesn't really seem to meet that anymore.

I'm still gutted I left the barrier spot I could have had for Tuung to see the disappointment of Modeselektor (not them, but the sound). Thanks for the write up!

yes - i meant meant to "relatively"!

and i agree, that it's basically a model with different prices for different options. i don't think the timing with reading/leeds is a coincidence though - the reading show last year was HUGE for them, they pulled the biggest crowd of the weekend, and, in general, really connected with the audience in a way I've not seen them do at any of their other festivals/shows (and I've seen them 5-6 times now)

^

compared to what?!?

update

I just checked the order tracking and they've changed the download time to 9am on Thursday - it seems it was just a genuine mistake and they've changed the time.

i completely agree

was in exactly the same boat and immediately asked for a refund - I wouldn't feel so cheated if it wasn't for the fact they only told you after 7pm before you part with your cash

metallica reference

i thought they were playing indigO2? which is far more intimate than brixton

.

now you know how it feels for those of us travelling to hammersmith/shepherd's bush from North East/East of London!

spreadsheet

here's one i made on the new times - i had to do a little bit of guess word for tunng and foals, but it seems to be ok

http://www.sendspace.com/file/iv2goa

hope this is of help to anyone, but it's my no means accurate, just going by what's on the field day website right now!

Cheap fix..

... but actually quite a sensible one to be honest - despite the few clashes it now creates

programmes

i read they're giving them out free this year on the door. which is good, since there was 1 person selling them for the whole event last year - and it was a complete rip-off, but at least it had a short write-up on every act.

very pleased

minimal clashes for me, planning something like this:

Noah And The Whale or One Little Plane
Emma Pollock
Tunng
Modeselektor
Of Montreal (hopefully won't overlap)
Dan Deacon
Les Savy Fav(poss?)
Lightspeed Champion (poss?)
Foals

Might skip Foals for Benga depending on my mood at the time, seeing as Foals are playing every single festival this side of the sun. In fact, pretty relaxed on what I'll do after Dan Deacon, who frankly will be more than enough doseage of awesome for one day.

standon

i'm going to standon tomorrow. bit of a shame they can't make - but it sounds like a really organised event if the emails i've received are anything to go by so it should be able to cope with late loss of headliner. also, i don't think punters will go banging on the door a la WITC since this is a far more forgivable cancellation - I just hope Blaine will be ok for Field Day

not necessarily her fault

the festival may have been in deep trouble before her announcement, sadly we'll probably never know, and it will always be her word against renaissance's. they mention poor ticket sales, so it's possible that couldn't meet even the minimum production requirements forcing her to withdraw. not very professional, granted, but still plausible.

of course, the opposite is also true, and that bjork's demands may have been unreasonable, leading to the chain of events seen (false rumours, investor pulling out).

that said, the statement does mention poor ticket sales, and i think that might be the overriding problem.

that was for bjork's cancellation

i would imagine since the whole event is now cancelled, there will be a longer period to allow refund requests - in fact, they may even be repaid automatically by some agents (e.g. ticketmaster)

hmmm

i musta just been caught up in the moment then... or maybe it segued into desired constellation which made me forget it?

Leila "supported"

Also - i don't remember her playing "Where Is The Line" - but she was on 5 minutes late so may have cut it.
