the dodginess is about 50% of the appeal. don't let's all miss the blessed point.

bands always play smaller venues after their second album, the idea is they sell out and everyone is like "wow, they sold out ANOTHER tour i should totally buy that record"... zing ...

in relation to css, i mean.... obviously i don't mean that warners have never interefered with other bands.

ignoring the fact that sub pop would never let that their records be "smoothed over", i think anyone with half a brain at warners (which is, surprisingly, most of them) would also balk at such a thing.

imo the first css record was a big pile of shit with maybe two or three sparkling songs (we all know which ones) buried underneath, so it's not much surprise that their second effort isn't overwhelming.

buuuut... that sax solo is really horrible. it doesn't even sound well recorded. it's sort of muted and ugly. which is a shame really because it's otherwise one of the best pop songs of the year.
