This is possibly
the most ill-informed review I have ever read, and not even speaking from personal bias. 'About a Girl' comparable to 'Rape Me'? Are you mad? They're not remotely similar - if anything the rhythm of RM is reminiscent to Smells Like Teen Spirit, but that's as far as the likeness goes. And Floyd The Barber? Lightweight? Are you deaf as well as mad? And two-chord? What about all the other chords in it? What about the middle 8?
I could go on but it's making me angry.
Have you ever seen a band play before?
Have you ever even seen a musical instrument?
Did you even listen to the album, or just look at the pictures and the sleeve then throw it all in the bin when you realised it didn't have the man from the Foo Fighters playing on it?
And how old were you when Bleach came out anyway? 2?
Titchmarsh
Captain sounds like Ground Force.
I don't get it, sorry
Wes wins
American Nightmare, and now this. I heard a cold cave song on 6music the other day and I honestly thought it was Magnetic Fields at first.
WIN
win win win
RE - Their Hearts Were Full OF Spring...
How can you say the Beach Boys song of the same name is 'schmaltzy', are you fucking deaf? It's a haunting acapella cover of a traditional hymn, with the lines 'then one day they died and their graves were side by side'. It's epic. You aren't. It's probably the only reason I ever investigated the band of that name.
Oh, and Talons were indeed awesome yesterday. Was that a cover of the theme from Requiem For A Dream they played towards the end?
La Roux's Guardian interview
What do you mean, "she didn't come across very well"? I saw that interview, I thought she came across pretty charmingly. She even went on to unashamedly reveal the similarities between Quicksand and When Doves Cry, something which most other chicken shit plaguarists would avoid like the plague, only to be revealed as the imposters they are. At least she picks them to the post. And rightly so.
Dunces.
urgh
you put your apostrophes in all the wrong places there. Urgh.
Libertines?
Don't make me laugh. I was 22 when the Libertines came out, they taught me nothing. I just opened up the NME one day (mistake number one) and thought "who's this bloke who looks like Danny Goffey but with a fatter face and more ill looking". Libs were about as innovative as a raspberry jam sandwich as opposed to a strawberry jam sandwich.
Still, I'm utterly bewildered as to how a band like them inspired such adoration and devotion from their fans. Wish I had that.
...
Farmfest 2007 that is, for anyone who gives a sheet
Excellent
And very insightful. I've liked Friendly Fires ever since my old band played with them at the off-the-radar festival Farmfest in Somerset.
However - not meant as a cuss to the band, but has anyone noticed how similar the main vocal hook to the chorus in Skeleton Boy is to a certain You're Not Alone by Olive which came out in the mid-late nineties? I still like it though.
VICE
Re: The Vice article - it's not about him, they just used a photo of his face for an article called 'my boyfriend is gay' on account of him looking, well, a bit gay.
I don't think he was that bothered though.
SFA
Super Furry Animals!
Pick me please. Please. Please.
Super Furry Animals.
Don't pick them, I'm clearly more deserving.
