Re: Mars Volta add to final Frusciante solo release

i fucking hate graham coxon. for a start he's called graham, and for another, he sounds exactly like damon albarn. which can never be a good thing.

Re: Charity single planned for Asian Tsunami

that paragraph about ronan keating is fucking hilarious!

and now, i find myself singing 'we're sending our love down the well'...

Re: Martha Wainwright appears in The Aviator & UK

just got my ticket. looking forward to it! :)

Re: Erasure's Andy Bell - HIV positive

i think he's really brave making that news public. can't have been easy.

Re: Mars Volta to release one-track album

the terrifying words 'prog' and 'revival' spring to mind.

god help us!

Re: TOTP moves to Sunday on BBC2?

never mind being a le tigre fan. i just happen to be 34. and it makes me sad when i see girls referring to other women as 'sluts'. plenty of women i know do it too, or call other women 'bimbos' or trot out the tedious cliches about attractive women being 'thick'. yawn yawn.

i've always tackled that kind of shit, and i always will. i'm not purporting to be some kind of super-feminist. i'm not perfect. and i'm sure i've my own contradictions. but actually, what i was trying to do was just to get jade thinking about what she'd said. that's all i can hope for. if my comments even get her questioning he choice of words, and what they really mean, then i'm happy. if that sounds patronising, i'm sorry. but, hey, i believe the children are our future....

Re: TOTP moves to Sunday on BBC2?

perhaps you might want to think about why one woman calling another a 'slut' helps sustain and perpetuate our oppression.

Re: TOTP moves to Sunday on BBC2?

i'm presuming you're a female as your real name is jade. i'm also presuming from your use of the delightful expression 'two faced sluts' you've never heard of feminism.

which is a shame.

Re: TOTP moves to Sunday on BBC2?

well said le crash. that's exactly what i was thinking!!

Re: Biffy Clyro - "We could be the future of rock"

to be honest, i could never get past their name. it's so fucking twee.

sounds like the kind of name i'd have given a stuffed rabbit when i was three.

Re: Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Abattoir Blues /

and you are clearly, intensely hard of hearing! :P

Re: Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Abattoir Blues /

this cd has been on my stereo more or less non stop for weeks now. i can't get enough of it!

abattoir blues is dark and intense and uplifting all at the same time. if 'there she goes my beautiful world' doesn't make you want to leap up and shout out and generally spin round with wild abandon, then chances are, you're clinically dead.

as for lyre of orpheus, it's just plain gorgeous. 'breathless' and 'babe you turn me on' are so beautiful as to bring a tear to the eye.

i can't fucking rave about this album enough!

Re: Gay Murder - Music Blamed

this is a really tricky one, as all censorship debates invariably are. on the one hand, most of us like to think we believe in the freedom of speech. on the other, most of us find the thought of someone advocating hate on the ground of someones race/gender/sexuality objectionable so what's to be done?

does listening to homophobic music turn a non-homophobe into a homophobe? i doubt it. could it potentially stir up already existing hatred and - by virtue of the celebrity status of the singer - seek to endorse those views. yes, i think so.

is the answer banning artists whose material is homophobic from performing? i'm not sure. i mean, i wouldn't be happy if skrewdriver were playing at a venue in my town, so should i be any happier if sizzla or TKO or beanie man or whoever are playing?

obviously, banning such artists isn't going to stop homophobia. banning them from recording homophobic records isn't going to stop it either. what such bans would do, i suppose, is to at least stop venues/record labels from seeming to endorse such views.

the real work that needs to be done is at a much, much deeper level. it's about tackling hatred within entire fabric of society. which obviously, is slightly tougher than saying 'sizzla can't play the aston villa leisure centre'.

like i said, very fucking tricky, and i'm really not sure what the answers are. :(

Musical hero John Peel dies age 65

did anyone see mark e smith being an utterly awkward fucker while being interviewed on newsnight about john peel's death tonight?

i reckon peelie would have been proud of the old curmudgeon!
