I think what's actually happened goes something like this - Woolworths sell MVC stores to a new private company who run into cashflow problems and go into administration.

MVC's stores are then sold on to Music Zone who themselves run into cashflow problems and enter administration, and company is wound up. After this Fopp agree to acquire 67 Music Zone stores in February '07.

When MZ went bust, they left a lot of outstanding debts to suppliers, and when Fopp took them over, those suppliers demanded their money. This led to them refusing to supply Fopp until they were paid, with Fopp receiving a very piece-meal supply of new releases for the past 2 months or so. At the same time, they'd continued expanding, with the most recent store opening only 3 weeks ago.

Very sad, but nothing really to do with weak record sales. they were just saddled with debts from their business dealings. they'll be missed

used to have it all - they've committed to record some seriously interesting and progressive sounds. To then hear some of the tat from this album on the radio makes me sad. Obviously a band with serious musicianship who perhaps have lost their way a bit.

Americans are having their little dalliance with 'mainstream dance' as we did 10 odd years ago. Therefore they're slapping in awful trancy-style lead sounds and it just doesn't cut it.

SexyBack stank too - just a really monotonous song. Don't get me wrong, I have some time for JT. Some. His first album had some choice cuts on it; nothing on his new album really reaches the same peaks (in places) of his debut.

Whereas the first album was all about that soulful, slightly jazz-funko pop sound, now he's jumping on the emerging dance shiat of the American mainstream market. Seriously, without Timberland and co, I think he'd be lost.

And what is with that voice during the verses? Some men were meant to sing in that contralto style, some pull it off really well. He doesn't at all. It just sounds wrong. Like your uncle trying to imitate a choristor. No out and out hate for the man, but he really can do a lot better. 4 at most.

I know Rob Skipper from the Holloways, and while I'm not their biggest fan, he is a good musician and has been involved with some great music in his time. Check out the moulettes for instance. He also isn't a cunt, he's a good bloke.

I can see where you're coming from, totally. Cut a long story short, they're good friends of mine and have known them for years. They are a lot better live now than they were when they were plugging away, and first getting noticed. The feel of their show is somewhat 'natural' as that is who they are as people, but let there be no doubts about their musicality or craft - their album is incredibly well-crated and thought out, not to mention intricate and daring. I think you'd find on CD that they're a a different beast entirely.
