Koko?
urgh.
This is
pretty bloody exciting!
This list upsets because I've heard basically all of them
But am in love with none of them. Rubbish.
I think I'd have voted Patrick Wolf, had he been an option.
This would be absolutely awful
That place is/was such a lifeline to kids in the area (inc. myself) who wanted to go to gigs, but weren't really old enough/couldn't afford to go to London or Southampton.
It's a such a fantastic place, run by great people, who put on brilliant bands. This would be utterly heartbreaking.
I wasn't at this show...
...but the poor guy just can't get it right can he?
Everyone complained when he was drunk and distracted and talked to much and didn't finish songs... and now everyone complains because he's too sober and straightforward.
Gah.
Hmm
"Any changes to the radio schedule are decided upon only after careful consideration by the BBC on determining the best use of the Licence Fee to maximise the audience for each station."
Is the BBC's role in regards to the license payer not to cater to the mainstream audience constantly, but to also find time for diverse and niche programmes that result in a wider spectrum being provided for?
I thought that was the beauty of publicly funding programming in that it does not have to have a huge audience constantly because of the desire to sell advertising space, but is able to cater for more specific tastes from time to time.
I really need to get this.
I always forget how much I love them.
Fantastic!
:D
Yes.
But it is, largely, for me at least. I'd rather some nice fuzzy shoegaze :)
After deciding that post-rock is boring
Yndi Halda genuinely captivate me. I think they're superb and this review is pretty spot on :)
My top 2
are those 2.
In that order.
Yay!
I don't think you can read Colin or Mike's reviews
as 'yuck, we don't like noise', rather that the balance between noise and other-stuff was wrong, and perhaps some of the bands featured actually weren't that great... neither of them went anywhere close to writing off the entire 'genre'.
columns!
hurrah!
It's the danger of user-generated content.
However, it sounds rather a lot like MySpace should have taken much greater precautions in the first place, opening dialogues, taking more responsibility for checking what is uploaded etc.
I'd agree though that this is probably just Universal throwing their weight around though in an attempt to settle a rather nice financial agreement with MySpace.
Having spent the last 3 hours
re-ordering my CDs and listening to them through mega-headphones, I think I'd be devastated if they were to die off. They're not quite as 'loveable' as vinyl, but they're convenient and still have wonderful artwork and packaging and booklets and lovely sound quality etc etc.
I think...
...in terms of the internet, all the new tools that are available, from the likes of DiS and Stylus, through MySpace, to Last.fm and the Hype Machine just add to some organic way of discovering things.
The more little snippets you hear, or the more times you stumble across nice words about a certain band, the more likely you are to check them out.
I think it's quite a natural process, that no tool has really successfully streamlined as each has it's strengths, weaknesses and limitations - but they all form part of a jigsaw of peer recommendations, track previews and just creating interest.
OH!
I had no idea they were playing. RUBBISH.
long winded sentences are nice.
I'm a fan.
Tonight is gonna be amazing.
I really can't wait.
Nice photo :)
Oh!
And getting more actual media content, exclusives or not, would be pretty ace - as I'm sure that's something you could figure out with a lot of bands/labels, in some kind of mutually beneficial way.
A front page
overhaul sounds like a good idea.
It's be great to have a little summary of each review - because, otherwise, if it's a band you don't know, you're not hugely likely to click it.
Also, the archive-type pages should be easier to browse/prettier. They're not the best looking things in the world.
As other people have said, reviews are a good length and largely very very well-written and a joy to read, striking a nice balance between being intelligent and interesting and not being overly 'flowery'.
I also like the idea of releasing a set amount of reviews a day, so there's always a certain amount of daily content to look at.
I like how Tuesday's have become discussion days, and it'd perhaps be nice to see more regular features.
Maybe more regular on-going types of feature as well - this would perhaps help with the diversity issue, if there was a weekly/fortnightly electronica article, or a regular folk, grime, pop, whatever feature. That way you can have someone with a lot of knowledge giving a regular contribution that spans more than just an occasional album review.
Interesting features and really good writing are more of a lure than a huge quantity of shorter single reviews. Actually, single reviews are rubbish anyways. Stick to albums, and smaller bands singles/eps.
Oh.
The Spinto Band are about a MILLION times to nice for this to happen to them. :(
Aw I got Final Fantasy tickets yesterday
I couldn't find Tunng tickets though... I will look again. Now.
FANTASTIC!
I miss your voices.
I choose Colin.
Because of The Unicorns.
Trip to Manchester?
I think SO.
That's tempting
Just for tG
EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
This IS awesome.
NTR!?
What're YOU doing here?
But yes, this song, makes my heart jump, in the best possible way.
The amount of grief I got
for a slightly-harsh live review was insane. I can't understand why EVERYONE is hailing them as some really great thing. I really just don't understand... at all.
Hurrah!
Not entirely sure they deserve that 1 to be honest...
Oh. That's the soundtrack to my day sorted then.
But it's also making me ANGRY at exams for meaning I can't go out tonight.
this sounds ace.
and within walking distance.
HURRAH.
Check out the Try Harder myspace Sean.
It's very pretty.
I listened to it this morning in fact.
The first time a song title has
my name in, and it's rubbish.
Boo.
Awesome indeed.
I like reading interesting stuff.
YAY!
I wonder if I could tie the ocean to your knees...
Oh.
I could spend my 21st birthday in Iceland... listening to music... I like this idea... someone take me?
she'd better reschedule
our date.
Or else I'll have anger.
