Following the unanticipated success of the Grizzly Bear 'Gumbo' recipe last year on DiS, we toyed with the idea of a regular indie-rock in the kitchen section on DiS. Yet, you soon discover that many musicians idea of a culinary delight is adding brown sauce to a Ginster's pastie that was accidently cooked in the glovebox by a faulty van heater. Of course there have been exceptions (Harriet from Los Campesinos! in particular) but then we saw White Hinterland's twitter, with Casey Dienel offering up daily recipes, so we thought, in the run-up to their new record Kairos, rather than just review and give away some tracks to showcase their snow-capped electronica (think Ladytron and Broadcast with a dose of Lykke Li and JJ stirred in), we'd, er, make them sing for their supper; or rather give you some ideas of what you can eat for yours... »
Tom Los Campesinos! meets James Richardson from The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast.»
I've seen bands I love play awful shows. I've bought records that have disappointed me beyond end. If I go to a gig and I'm not enjoying it, I won't force myself to stay; but when I go to watch Welton Rovers every Saturday (as I've done the past 15 years), I could be watching the most diabolical game I've ever seen (I often am), and you couldn't drag me away. Bands, they come and go, but when you choose a football team, that's a life sentence. I asked some friends to share their misery with me. »
There are quite a few keen cooks in Los Campesinos! and we all spend a lot of time talking about food when we are together. But it's when we get home to our empty cupboards that I start to get sentimental about Mum and Dad's lentil soup and get my pinny on. »
I imagine the majority of us are fans of the ‘DIY’ label (if not, you may as well stop reading now). A DIY label is even more exciting if someone you know is running it. Those of you who live in London probably know a million people running labels. There are a bunch of people in Cardiff who are doing the DIY thing. But not only are they doing it, they’re doing it well. »
"Cardiff is a city that is rapidly changing. When I first visited it when my sister was studying at the University, the Bay redevelopment hadn’t even happened. Now with a major redevelopment in the centre the city is becoming the Capitol city that Wales deserves. In this guide I’ll show where to eat, drink, shop and enjoy what the city has to offer."»
