Well...

I saw Sweet Baboo play the other day and I thought he was embarrassingly awful, the worst thing I've seen in AGES. I've nothing against comedy-type music that is actually good, ie HMHB, Frank Sidebottom, Tom Lehrer, Ivor Cutler. Even the Colbert Christmas album is pretty good. But this was student zaniness, for fuck's sake. He thinks he's funny and cute and he's neither. So I can quite believe the album is as bad as the review says.

Decemberists yes

But luckily the Final Fantasy album is even better. God, it's AMAZING.

ah, Take That

Well, I was such a fan from the ages of about 12 to 15 (and simultaneously listening to the Evening Session; no-one should ever apologise for loving the pop. Anyway, because of that formative time, I still get happy shivers now when I hear of Take That. And Gary was always my favourite: history has proved me right. I still definitely, DEFINITELY would. Bring on the boy band revival!

I didn't realise

that this was a DiS thing. I was at the Cardiff one. Kid Harpoon was great, Good Books were even more so. I danced like a crazy person! Fields were very pretty but drony dullness, though.

God

You're all so pretentiously wankyindie. I mean I like... well, look at my profile to see I do like indie, but this stuff's so bloody right-on. Yawn.

oh, Owen Pallett, you're my hero.

Love him, love the album, and I'm going to be seeing him in Bristol next month, woooargh!

hmm...

Myspace HAS introduced me to one new musician- Mr Hopkinson's Computer. But I generally trust Popjustice's recommendations. He's introduced me to Lorraine, Patrick Wolf, WigWam, Temposhark &c. But Word Magazine has introduced me to LOADS more stuff than that through its free CDs. Though you do need to sift through a lot of country & shit.

did anyone...

...ever get this? I'm guessing Benjamin.

Re: Hopes And Jeers: A Keane Fan Speaks Out

But if pianos were the dominant force, maybe they would play guitar, or harp or something?

Hopes And Jeers: A Keane Fan Speaks Out

Sorry this is late- encouraging comment, here.

Re: Anthony Gibbons

I promise to post encouraging words at the bottom :-)

Re: Keane - Hopes and Fears

"very impressive gig... best vocals I have ever heard live... nothing I could eve get excited about"? How is that logical?

Keane - Hopes and Fears

Dear oh dear. How can you mention Noel Gallagher as an example of a good lyricist?

Anthony Gibbons

Hurry up with your Why I Love Keane article! Or have you become bored already?

Re: Somewhere Only We Moan: Why I Hate Keane

Who says there has to be boundaries? Only people who feel the need to define themselves and other's coolness quotient by what they listen to.

Somewhere Only We Moan

I was genuinely thrilled and excited when I first heard Keane. I like lots of other artists, none of them are Dido and not Coldplay either. Well, have a look at who else I rate if you like. I've gotten into loads of new stuff this year but only two bands have made me squeal with joy- Keane and The Ark. What I would say is give it time. Radiohead's first album (though I don't really hear much of a sonic similarity between the two bands) was MOR indie frivolity and it was enjoyable. Now they're a completely different band. Keane's first album, well the songs have been made a little too glossy for my taste, but they stand up as perfect melodies that make me melt. Achieving that is far harder than being in Tortoise or whatever. The author really seems to be suggesting that music needs to be difficult to be worthwhile. That's not in the slightest bit true, is it? I hate this 'real music' indie snob mentality. Anyway, these are the songs Keane have had knocking about for a couple of years, but in time I believe they could make an album to be remembered for generations. Just so long as they stay sane/ become just insane enough for genius, whichever it takes. Oh, and Tom Chaplin has an extraordinary, really unique voice. So sweet and clear and powerful. I've seen the girls sobbing in the front row, and the boys too. That's a weapon no band since Geneva has really had. INCLUDING Coldplay.

Re: Divine Comedy: An 'Absent' March

Do you not think, as a DJ, your musical knowledge should be a bit wider? I mean do you really have what it takes if you didn't even hear of this quite popular band before now?

Har Mar Gets Around And Drags in Holly Valance

I've known about this for weeks. How come Popjustice gets their stories so much sooner than you guys?

Re: Keane - Somewhere Only We Know

That's the thing, my first impression was that it looked like a good venue. I'm sure lots of fun can be had there generally. Maybe I'll see someone tiny there sometime, but possibly not, as I'm a Cardiff resident anyway.

Re: Keane - Somewhere Only We Know

Oh, so you were at the Bristol gig then. I suppose it was good- sounded good, and they've been better than that at previous gigs as well- but I couldn't see a fucking thing, or move. Bad choice of venue at this stage in their career. I would've been at the front had I not been stuck on the merchandise stall until five seconds before they came on, which I am pretty bitter about. Not the band's fault, the Street Team leader's fault. I had to stomp away from the table and throw the money at them before they noticed I'd been sat there all night. And that guy at the bottom of the stairs, inspecting tickets or whatever- early 20s, basic indie outfit, smug look- I have never met a bigger cunt in my life. Fucking fuck.

Re: Keane - Big In '04 - Part V

ENOUGH ABOUT THE FUCKING GUITAR! Pet Shop Boys don't need guitars!

Re: BBC Top Ten: No Alarms and Few Surprises

well I don't like Coldplay at all but I'm a big supporter of Keane. They really are mindblowing live and, I don't know, are people hearing different songs than me? Because actually I don't like Franz Ferdinand or Jet or all those 'The' bands or, oh, most people Zane Lowe plays either. OLD ROCK MUSIC! It's just ugly. Keane make me say wow.

Re: BBC Top Ten: No Alarms and Few Surprises

you can't judge a song on the first 3.2 seconds, don't be so flippant.

Re: Divine Comedy: An 'Absent' March

Very true, Alex. Adie's being a bit odd, assuming Nigel's presence will make it sound good- I was thinking just the opposite. Him and DivCom are *so* badly suited. But luckily someone in the know tells me this album sounds as if the last two never existed. Hurrah!

Re: Big In '04 - Part V

yo baby- I'll be there.
