'Magic' was a bit Springsteen-by-numbers and this is a bit the same

When it's good it's very good but there's still too much filler.

I think one of the main annoyances in recent years is that his albums are too long and have too many songs on them. Even 'The Rising', which was mostly excellent, could have been improved by getting rid of 4 or 5 songs.

Ever been in the photo-pit? Yes, plenty of them.

"I explained that he'd be depriving the quintet of a review in a prominent music website whose demographic made such a snub foolish, and counter-productive". Call me old fashioned but how does not being allowed to take a camera into a venue hinder your ability to write a review?

Why is it that everyone thinks that having a ticket and owning a camera means that you suddenly have a right to take photos of a gig and be able to get the full web 2.0 experience? Some venues are fine, some aren't. And it's been that way for a very long time so either this is (a) your first gig; or (b) you've never read the back of any gig ticket you've ever bought.

It probably wouldn't have happened to Steve Gullick because if he knew he needed a photo pass he would have organised one and it probably didn't happen to Nick Kent because he's a writer.

MOST UN-ROCK'N'ROLL EXPERIENCE EVER? Have you ever read your own writing?

It's a bit ironic

that the Fat Dancer is part of this considering photographers wanting to photograph him on his last tour had to sign a contract giving him copyright of their photos - http://www.stockphototalk.com/phototalk/2006/07/german_newspape.html

One of my faves too

Was an awesome lineup. Bowie was a bit disappointing as he was going through his drum + bass phase, although he more than made up for it at Glastonbury in 2000(?).

Not just Neil Young; Neil Young + Crazy Horse. Amazing, on of the best sets I've ever seen.

Don't remember Bjork either...
Saw a bit of the Pistols on the Sunday night and they were meh, so went and saw the Cowboy Junkies on the acoustic tent instead.

Also my favourite Glastonburys were probably 92 + 93. Seeing the likes of Spiritualized, The Verve (when they were good), Curve, Primal Scream, The Orb. Good weather, good friends, good times. 1990 as my first one was pretty good as well, with The Cure on the Saturday being a bit of a life-changing experience. The first bands i saw on the Fri afternoon were something like Lush, Galaxy 500, Green On Red, Jesus Jones and James. Beats seeing James Blunt on the bill in 2008...

sad news

I'd like to think, considering the amount of money I used to spend there, that if I hadn't have moved out of London that this wouldn't be happening.

And Mr CD has gone aswell :(

Did i also hear rightly that Steve's Sounds nr Leicester Sq isn't there anymore either?

A bit disappointed but it's beginning to grow on me

Am surprised by some of the rave reviews as it's ok but nowhere near that good. 5 or 6/10 would be a fair score.
It's the usual Spaceman lyrical bingo of "Fire", "Soul", "Lord", "Jesus", "Angels", "Babe", "Needle", "Vein" etc even though I keep thinking he can't do another song telling us he's got a fire in his soul...
The harder/faster songs (ie Yeah Yeah) just sound too thin and weedy.
And his voice sounds pretty farked, like he did record after his stint in hospital.

b) a venomous plant

Really great band.

the flags, the flags

You didn't mention the flags - every other person has an Australian flag somewhere on their person - as a cape, on their shirt/shorts, as a temporary and even permenant tattoo.

For the uninitiated the whole thing comes across as a cross between a bad day at Reading Festival and a Nuremberg Rally but with lots of ropey Australian bands (Grinspoon, Faker, Silverchair etc).

Although it's different, 'Chav' is probably the closest you'll get to 'Bogan'. Think 'Nationalist Chav' and you're most of the way there.

The tickets are 60 quid + bf

so am sure he can afford to shout them two beers...

A pedant writes

They're actually from about 2,000km north of Melbourne, from just outside of Brisbane.
