It's perfect.

Try and get beyond your indie pretensions boys.

taken in context

The Prayer stands out on the Bloc Party album as an amazing single, but in the context of the cd it is phenomenal.

I'm pretty sure "A Weekend in the City" is a concept album. Now hear me out...

The "concept" is the albums namesake, and the songs on the album indirectly fit into the greater scheme of this weekend out.

I believe that the prayer's video accurately captures where this song fits in the album. The boys are out in a club. "Tonight make me unstoppable, And I will charm, I will slice, I will dazzle, I will outshine them all" Kele sings, heart on his sleeve, capturing the feeling of approaching a potential love interest with a good deal of apprehension, and attempting to give himself false confidence. In the end (of the video) all the boys just get drunk, and the words Kele sings ring hollow.

Following this song, the next song, Uniform, is the band's lament of their current predicament having failed in their sexual attempts while drunk. On is an accurate description of using cocaine, and where is home, which is seemingly out of place on this album, is actually a song that fits in as a sort of cocaine high.

Once Kele's "tongue is loose" he is able to succeed in the sexual realm and this leads into Kreuzeberg. Followed by I still remember, and the obviously titled Sunday. The later part of the cd is the come down from the high of the previous night.

Taken as just another album "A weekend in the city" is good, but taken as a whole with a specific purpose the album takes on a new level of meaning, that makes it that much more relatable and interesting.

Also, I sincerely believe if the lyrics of "The Prayer" are viewed as I have mentioned it becomes that much more of an intricate and exciting song.

I started to ramble, these are just my thoughts :)
