Oh and I just read this about the upcoming Singles boxset...
"The box is completed with four contemporary badges, a poster featuring the single artworks as well as an authentication certificate that contains a unique redemption code for mp3 downloads of the tracks. "
'Paint A Vulgar Picture' anyone?
a bloody shame really
But then the thing with compilations is I think it's pretty hard to get it spot on. A lot of artists fail at this. Take the recent Moz Greatest Hits. It did what it said on the CD - it was most of his big hits, plus who needs another compilation with Boxers, November Spawned A Monster and Interesting Drug on it? Whichever way he went with that would've been slagged off. He shouldn't have done it at all but I'm guessing it was a contractual thing. Silly sod.
I shan't be purchasing this.
And if Moz's input was coming up with the title - not exactly taxing work is it! That must've taken all of 3 seconds to come up with.
Oh and the boxset? Doesn't seem much worth it either. Nothing new there. Just stuff in a box.
Two points...
"naturally the band had diddly-squat involvement"
I think Marr remastered or mixed it and Morrissey had something to do with choosing the tracks on the bonus disc. I may be imagining both of these things but I'm pretty sure that's why they're trying to make out that this is a worthwhile reason to rip fans off, it has The Two From The Smiths You've Heard Of involved in one way or another.
Plus
"The Queen Is Dead was quite a lot better than Maladjusted in, say, the way winning the lottery is quite a lot better than being shot in the balls."
I'm off to the bar, what can I get you?
what fresh hell is this...
covering 'Don't Look Back In Anger'?
Did they do 'Brown Eyed Girl' and 'How You Remind Me' as well?
Caral Barat = that Tony bloke off of Hollyoaks
isn't that a picture of the guitar player from King Adora?
Why is everybody leaving?
nice one jack
duetting with alicia 'the night time is the right time to listen to itunes' keys.
bleedin' nora...
Gruff Rhys?
Hey, that kid's alright.
^^^^^^^^^^^
this is brilliant
The Second They Accepted That Award
they lost whatever grain of worth they may have had left.
Bunch of once-great-but-now-embarrassingly-desperate-to-be-down-with-kids-and-be-famous cunts.
You know the sort...
I very much
like this lot. The last album were great.
Carl Barat
Looks exactly like Tony from Hollyoaks.
Oh Christ this record is good
If you don't like it then i don't like you.
Aside from the fact that The Hold Steady are one of the best rock n roll bands on the planet, there is another simple thing that makes this record great:
Ben Nichols from Lucero singing on any track > > > > > > > anyone else doing anything else in the world.
not really
I just find Radiohead do very very little for me and I find the "LIKE THEM OR DIE PROLE!" attitude towards them quite annoying. Whereas Prince is a living genius.
This is all of course just my opinion. As was your response. Lest we forget that this is but a mere messageboard.
Prince >>>>>>>>>>>> Radiohead
simple really.
Saturday @ The Emirates
Christ this is going to be good. Just seen the set he played on Saturday night in Dublin. If we get a set anything like that I will probably spend most of the show on the floor in tears of joy.
A bit harsh
I can only judge this record on the leaked tracks so far and hell I like it. Sure it's not a work of genius but it makes me smile and there's not much I've heard lately that does. For that reason I am glad that Weezer are back.
I heart The Boss
I even think there's stuff on Human Touch and Lucky Town that shines through...I Wish I Were Blind is a beautiful song spoiled by shiny production...strip it down to the bare bones and it's heartbreaking.
Top 5 for me has to be
1. Born To Run
2. D On The E Of T
3. Born In The USA
4. Live @ Hammersmith Odeon
5. Nebraska
Although The River and Magic are very close behind. E-Street Shuffle took me a while and even Rosalita didn't click with me straight away - every other Bruce fan I know would probably put it in Top 3 songs but it wasn't until I heard a live version that I really 'got it'.
Girls In Their Summer Clothes is a belter.
I am aware that I am just listing Bruce-related things. Deal with it.
£75 a ticket?
Yeah, nice one.
LUCERO
I think you'll find the that they're the band that you MUST see at Great Escape. They're like The Replacements playing Springsteen songs.
Dirty voiced country punk from Memphis = better than everyone on that list.
In my opinion.
whatever
the man is a fucking king.
I can't believe people are pissing about Jay-Z playing when
the whole line up is terrible. Were I unfortunate enough to be going to this I would just go see Jay-Z, BJM and The Hold Steady and be forced to spend the rest of the time sampling the numerous delights of Glastonbury's so called 'other planet' atmosphere.
Even if I spend that weekend sitting in a bath of sick I bet I'll have more fun.
And yeah...
...does anyone know why NME pulled out? Like Poor Music Not Fussed About Racism...
What a legend
Of course he supports LMHR anyway - his statement he releases backed in December regarding the NME article pointed this out clearly and that NME had gone back on their word regarding a free single giveaway with proceeds going to LMHR.
That said, it must have been pretty delicious to be able to make a mockery of NME at the same time, we all know that fella can hold a grudge.
Agreed
I'm sure Prince'll be walking on egg-shells at the festival, being careful not to bump into old whatsisname for fear of being bored to death by his band.
Prince = fuck yeah.
"Are The Courteeners the new Smiths?"
Fuck off. Seriously, fuck right off and stay there.
This is clearly great
Pork & Beans is a tune, this sleeve makes me happy and, with the current climate of most bands being utter trampnads, Weezer should be celebrated shitless.
Seriously, why the fuck does that Field Day page keep popping up for no reason when I am typing? Fuck off, I'm not buying tickets now.
"That was moving rabbit classic Bright Eyes..."
Cassadega was a bit 'meh'. I tried to love it but could only really take to Brakeman, Four Winds, Make A Plan To Love Me and Hot Knives. The rest just kinda passed me by. Shame cos I fucking love more or less every other record he's done.
Love this band
New stuff they played at KOKO kicked ass. Plus Franz, the keyboard player, is a true gentleman and something of a legend. Anyone that can finish more or less a whole bottle of Jameson's onstage and still play like 90 possessed bastards is to be commended.
Prince = genius
Saw him 4 times at the O2 last year, the man is frankly incredible.
exactly
Liverpool Football Club = World's Worst Bastards.
anyone who thinks the 4th is not the best line up
is a tool undeserving of even the slightest passing touch from a loved one.
Its Morrissey and New York Dolls for fucks sake. Jay-Z and Hot Chip? Wow. Big deal.
as much as you are probablty entitled to your opinion or whatever
I do think you are more than a little wrong
Used to work with David Quantick
Attempting to use the gentlemens facilites after him was like walking into a slaughterhouse in a very hot day.
What we've learned:
Morrissey is not racist (knew that already, fuckos)
David Quantick has an anus like the holocaust.
4 seal hunters died did they?
I shan't shed a fucking tear.
I love PETA
Kasabian's music is a bollockload of cuntery twatquim but hats off for supporting this.
Kind of undone if they aren't vegtarians though, but that's just my opinion.
my concern here is
that Camel were willing to pay South £10,000 in the first place. I assume it was on the condition that they didn't do any of their own songs.
if by dullard you mean
one of the few genuinely intelligent, interesting and original artists left then I fully agree with you.
If however, and I fear this is the case, you are using 'dullard' in it's conventional sense then you Raymondthingywhatever are the dullard.
He shitting well fucking played 'Jack The Ripper' and 'Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself' last time I saw him so this should be my event of the summer.
I swear sometimes when i think of good things.
why have i only just noticed
what a rubbish face that man has got?
seriously, it's proper bollocks.
what is it with this guy
and failing to do anything properly - see his bands attempts at 'rock music'.
Also, if you're gonna top yourself to music, at least do it to something a little less...y'know. Like 'Baby Got Back' or something.
someone
that was willing to play as long a set as possible to minimise the amount of time that LZ had to sing about goblins and enchanted amulets of rock.
Or I'd probably not bother going to the show as I think Led Zep are trampquim.
Arctic Monkeys pissed as farts dressed up at Brits =
the only even vaguely entertaining thing that happened at said event.
That thing from the Enemy clearly comes from a gene pool with no deep end.
TESTICLEBEER?
perhaps?
good call
people saying "its nothing compared to Pinkerton" are cockterrorists of the highest order. Of course Pinkerton is genius. Essentially what you are saying is "Statistically the chances of them bettering their best album, which is better than most peoples best albums, are very low indeed". I'm not saying it's ok to release subpar records but Pinkerton captured a moment in time that is impossible to recreate.
Green = shockingly underappreciated. It's just fucking fun.
Maladroit = as close in sound to Pinkerton as I think they'll ever get again, obviously not as good but still has some great moments. December is beautiful.
Make Believe = I really tried but it's just too shiny and wet. Haunt You Everyday and The Damage In Your Heart are fantastic songs that ALMOST make the album worthwhile but then...y'know...My Best Friend? Fuck me icicles, that was a bad song.
I'm a bit concerned that This Is The Way, from Alone, is a suggestion of the direction they're going in on the next album. Please say it ain't so.
Seriously
What the fuck does 'chasing pavements' mean? By pavements does she mean 'the sweet trolley'?
I think theres a question thats still going unanswered
What manner of cunt would be going to such a Festival Of Cocks in the first place?
Proof, if ever it was needed
that nothing means anything anymore.
^ ^ this ^ ^
spot on.
whatever
some people don't like The Young Knives, some people do. I, however, am firmly in the 'wouldnt notice if they disappeared forever yet wouldn't notice if they tried to finger me' camp. It's a small camp.
Seriously Mr Knifey Knife (can't be arsed scrolling back up to recall his name), relax and don't worry about what people think so much. If you love what you do and believe in what you do then that's all that really matters.

He did, that's true but...
...he soon changed his tune.
He issued that statement in regards to 'Panic! The Best Of The Smiths' which was due to come out a few months ago.
Then he makes his statement, the record gets shelved, then a couple of months later a near identical release is announced that has Morrissey's involvement. Bit convenient I think...
Moz is one of my heroes and I put up with a lot of his silly antics but this is just such a pointless rip off to associate himself with, I suppose everyone has a price then (at the risk of sounding like Ted diBiase!)
