Re: Live 8? Not so great
I do struggle with the face of the make poverty history campaign. so may be it does raise awarness, but....
1) buying a wrist band is all well and good, but its buying your nike, reebok & gap etc etc products that keeps thousands of people in poverty. people aren't educated or informed about what they are buying and the consequences of buying it.
2) the subjects of poverty, global warming, and foreign policy are all intrinsically linked. bush wont sign up to kyoto because countries such as india and brazil atmosphere......how does he expect them to progress if they are't allowed the very same development that we 'civilised countries' got from our very own industrial revolution ? as raz says, its a case of our current system surviving at the cost of somebody elses.

Re: Booze banned at Live 8
isn't the "gandolf" comment a reference to the joss stone interview before band aid ? someone asked her what she thought about bob geldof and she replied "i thought he was great in the lord of the rings....." or something equally ignorant and befitting of the little dorothy.
and those of you moaning about having to endure and sit through this thing.....you dont have to. your tickets cost a whopping £1.50 if you got them. if you dont like the line up then give the tickets away. the rest of you dont actually have to watch it on the box.
miserable punks.

considering you spend more time giving bands poor ratings than you do good, im not suprised by your negative post.
Re: Reasons to love Coldplay #1: Martin attacks EMI’s ‘Corporate Evil’
yes, of course that's the point of the vast majority of record labels. but do you not think that this is short sightedness on EMI's part ? A good record label will, within reason, support the act that they signed to produce the very best material that they can - in the knowledge that the material will be better because of the time and effort invested in to it. This isn't an "INDUSTRY" argument. coldplay will argue with you that the time taken has given the label a better album, that will sell more records - does that soothe your unit shifting attitude ?!
We're not talking about churning out Nike trainers or Gap t shirts via Vietnam to meet the customer demand timeline - This is somones music, and you cant always put time constraints on that.

Re: Reasons to love Coldplay #1: Martin attacks EMI’s ‘Corporate Evil’
but majors will always be there. yes, they didn't have to sign for them, but does that mean that after you have, you are forever bound to silence re the relationship you have with them ? and cake-having-and-eating applies to the label as well. if they'd rushed the record, and EMI had thought it shit, how do you think they would've reacted ?
Do Make Say Think - Goodbye Enemy Airship The Landlord Is Dead
an amazing record. absoloutley amazing. people should buy all of this bands records. and yet, and yet, the follow up to this is equally breathtaking.
Re: animal researchers & the vegan diet...
here's the reason i wouldn't want my band getting in bed with peta.

lowandbehold...another stupid, reactive, no point post about bloc party.
you refusing to buy this album on the basis of one article, regardless of your thoughts on that article, is cutting off your own nose.
secondly, if you had a website / label, and you put records out on it, would you feel within your rights to advertise those artists on said site ? i bet you would.
6 out of 10....better luck next time.

Re: Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
the quite sad fact about this whole nme / dis stand off nonsense is that for the first time in a very long time, the nme are actually championing something of worth. i'd agree that the sucking it dry technique they are sadly experts in is now in full flow, but for fucks sake, some people just can't be pleased can they.
it's a truly magnificient record. paul epworth has taken a bunch of truly wonderful, deep, sexy, sad, up lifting, catchy rocking pop tunes, and poured liquid crystal all over them.
i cant wait for the next record.

Re: Cable - Sub-Lingual
you can see them as they spin, round the hair pins of monacco.....
ah, fuck, if only they'd play one more gig. one of the first bands i ever saw without previously hearing on record that made me puke with excitment.

Re: The Futureheads - Twice The Town You'll Ever Be
why do you need a futureheads review ? i thought the point of a review was to infrom you of something that you may like, or may not like. im assuming that you've heard the futureheads album, and thus wonder why you need to know someone elses opinion, when you obvioulsy have your own ?
Re: DiS Summer 'Brave New Ideas' UK Tour - Coming To Your Town?
hi all...we did try real hard to get gigs in exeter, portsmouth, bristol, brighton and glasgow. unfortunately, alot of venues were already booked. also, this tour is outside of uni terms, so promoters cant be sure if they'll get a good turn out or not :(

Jeniferever - Iris
I like this. It has wonderful Shipping News-esque moments of sparse-ness, and full on moments of more angular influence. Track 3 takes the biscuit, I love the mandolin sounding guitar work.

Re: Lollapalooza Festival cancelled
Isn't that a little bit apathetic though ? Sigur Ros played over here twice in the space of 3 months two years aga and charged £23 - £25 per gig. Thats wrong. Ive paid over the odds plenty o times, but I'm lucky enough to be able to afford to. Others aren't.
Re: TV On The Radio - Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes
i like it a lot, but there are times when a constant single sustained guitar note and simple beat feels like it's gonna explode into something monsterous......but doesn't. Still, I'll keep lisetning, there's definitley something about it.
Re: Cable - Sub-Lingual
oh sir, what a treat that lies in wait for you. when animals attacks is the mutz nutz.

My Word
There's a lot of hate around these here parts today.
I haven't posted on this board for months, mainly because of threads like this.
Yes, there were basic errors :
Water - this was bad, let people bring it to the arena.
Food - you cant advertise all those delights, and then have pretty much none of them there.
Wristbands - You make it easy for people to get cynical about the food / water when you will not let them in and out.
BUT....
Bogs - People are happy to piss up walls and in ditches at reading and glasto and never moan about it. It wasn't good, but please, its getting boring now.....
Bars - I chose to get in line and paid the price - It's Tuesday now and Ive dealt with it. It'd be interesting if DiS had asked some better questions about who exactly was giving this 'expert advice' on the facilities, as Tom seems to make out that they raised this however were advised things were ok ???
However, if you've got what you believe to be legitimate issues, then write off to them (like some of you have). There is no need to get so agro just because people disagree or cant be arsed to read your endless dribble about beer and bogs over and over and over again.
hotspanners - what do you think calling EYOE's a 'C*unt' will achieve - chill out dude, do something constructive.
Marv1 - Maybe all the people like Mike D who had a good time really cant be bothered, or aren't as stupid as me to get involved in this sort of booooooring circular debate ?
i was there. i had a brilliant day, i got pissed at the lines, but my only real gripes are listed above, and going on EYOE's previous good promoter record I'm sure they will be avoided next year.
