:(

hope he gets better soon.

i tend to really really hate duos

'cept Ben Folds and Rufus Wainwright, and Elton John and George Michael, but I know neither of those really count.

don't give a crap about the album

but I want it to be released before the end of the year just so everyone gets free Dr Pepper.

for beautiful but sad,

"switching off" is the ultimate. "newborn" for epic.

yeah!

:D

this is all such megalulz.

Ryan Adams has GOT to stop reading what people write about him, in the press, on the internet...it would save the whole world a fair bit of hassle, and would probably do wonders for his mental health.

I'd love to let this lie but I just can't (I freely admit I have too much time on my hands)

You say "no true "huge" fan would ever write what you did". I don't recall writing anything about his falling off stages or writing about being drunk...in case you failed to notice, I didn't write the article. Also, he did fall of a stage and break his arm, just, y'know, so you know.

I haven't ever tried to compare myself to Ryan Adams as a writer. What, so now you can't pass judgements on things you can't do as well as others? Don't tell me you've never, say, gone to see a movie and said after "wow, that was shit"? Jeez, grow up. Being a fan isn't about being blind to all an artist's faults and loving them unconditionally. I love Ryan's music. I don't "love" Ryan. God...

hi

yes.

I believe he was being facetious re: Courtney Love...

Also, um, "prefering to maintain a dignified silence on contentious topics"? Really? Which is why he freely talks about his failed relationships, takes issue so often with his fans, etc, all over the internet?

is this why you signed up?

I'm judging on the fact that all the writings of his that I've seen have been pretty much drivel. The man can write a song like there's no tomorrow, but his blogs make my head spin, and the bits of his "novel" that appeared on the old .com were pretty awful.

You may also have noticed that most of the above posters expressed admiration for him in some way or other. I think Adams is an amazing musician and songwriter, I am a huge fan of his, and as far as I'm aware that doesn't mean just spouting unconsidered and unconditional praise about everything he does. And let's face it, he sure doesn't make life easy for himself - he's a ridiculously easy target for press derision, sprawling his private life all over the internet. I love the guy as a musician, but as a writer I have severe (and based on perfectly good reason) doubts.

If it's anything like his blog...

I'll be staying well away.

As for the shows...£32.30 for London tix with fees and crap, is it really worth it? I've seen him live 5 or 6 times, the last few were pretty hit or miss, I just don't know if I can face parting with money I can't really afford right now to see him, admittedly my favourite artist but with a patchy tour record of late...meh :(

he played at my school summer bbq a few years back

'cause he was at our "brother" school. Maybe I should have actually paid attention...

^this

High five!

Ravenscourt Park ftw!

can't wait to see him. latitude is gonna be ace.

fun fact: he walks his dogs in my park, I pointed him out to my mum the other day and she said, "Oh, really? I see him every day, I just assumed he was some sort of tramp..."

my friend was gonna play at download.

then he got kicked out of the band...

mmmmmmmmmm lost cause.

aha!

I wasn't going on about him for nothing...

Nice interview, and phenomenal album.

...are you EVEN kidding?

I'm quite upset now.
I'd like to hear Bon Jovi (or hell, anyone else for that matter) turn out anything, ANYTHING that touches the absolute glorious awe and wonder of "All Systems Red".

^ this is exactly why i love them.

"I think MMJ don't give a monkeys about genre no more and have the ideas and play-how to pull it all off. Seriously Groovy."

YES.

ya know what?

the second paragraph of this review makes me think I'm going to love it. There's just something about MMJ that lets them get away with stuff like that...in my book anyway.

he maybe did!

...did what?

i counted, and this is approximately

ten different kinds of lame.

really?

I'm resisting the leaks, but from all I've heard, it's great if you can get past the first three tracks first time round...

oh...

that's awful. that really is. I haven't even been a glastonbury-hater this year, but that really is poor.

go to the Park Stage and see My Morning Jacket instead. that oughta awesome you out enough for the rest of the weekend.

me too, theoretically

hmm...Jason Molina vs trekking to Rough Trade East...I'll think about it.

God I'm lazy.

sucks to be them :(

on the bright side, they were still at SXSW...pretty awesome, like.

:D

:D :D :D
is all.

hyde park was fab. the bad tan lines i got from queuing lasted over a year...

these are shitty venues, but I'll still be at twickenham anyway...

Sir, I salute you.

they're playing roskilde.

LET'S GO.

mmm

red/motel/switching off/leaders of the free world/forget myself/newborn...ultimate love. they get a lot of shit, but seriously, what a fantastic band.

i'll skip this but

I am MEGA excited to see them again. it's been too long.
and apparently 'Accelerate' is freakin' ace.

Roskilde

here I come...

let's hear it for the boss

the only remotely decent noms are in the International Male Solo Artist category... Bruce or Rufus would do nicely.

I was worrying that

nobody was going to say that. Thank you for allaying my fears.

truesay

that kinda sucks. Having said which, I can't really imagine how a studio version of it would sound, so who knows, maybe they've played around with it a bit (not to an Around The Sun/Reveal extent, obviously, but...) and it could come out quite interesting I guess.

ohyes

can't wait for this.

2 years

hmm, possibly...will be interesting to see how much they're going for when they tour next year (fingers crossed).

bloody hell

Seriously, wtf? Thom Yorke's always off on this anti-capitalist bullshit etc, then they land us with £50 tickets? I paid less than that to go see R.E.M. in Hyde Park. I genuinely don't understand it. Sure, we got the album for free, but even given that, /nobody/ needs to charge that much for a ticket, no matter how big or prestigious or respected you are. Bullshit. Bring on Roskilde, anyhow...

i don't suppose

you would care to enlighten us lesser mortals?

unnecessary?

pink squares = absolute wonderfulness. the first and only time i have ever 1) bought a single, 2) bought 'new' music.

seriously.

WHY THE CRAP IS NICKY WIRE COOL?
i have never understood.

...but it's sold out

dayum.

is it just me or

does he really really look like Bill Berry in this photo?

I may well go to this, haven't heard all that much of his work (though do own and love one MECo album) but by all accounts it sounds like it'd be worth it.

a 'quartet' of shows?

er...
