but for the wrong reasons. it would seem to me that dis comes from the beleif that all writing should be taken with a pinch of salt - especially anything which states an opinion - be it in the form of hot headed, exagerated obscenity or cool calculated, balanced review.

(from my pov) its not that the dis mission statement is to 'entertain rather than enlighten' but it realises that in reality they are the same thing. or in other words a review that rants, shouts and swears is just as enlightened/valuable as some descriptive objective and fair piece reveiw you'll find in a sunday supplement. this is the same logic as letting idiots like you, me and everyone else post as much shit as we do and making jokes/puns/talking shit in news articles.... all opinions are of the same worth/worthlessness

...yes again your very right, the reviewer is on a 'very lofty horse' - but the point is its the same lofty horse that the journo working for any other publication sits on.. and again what they 'throw down' is ultimately of the same value but dis(as well as others i'm thinking of vice, maybe parts of planB) doesn't pretend otherwise...

... i guess it comes down to what you/your like, personally i've got time for most things, if you don't value dis style journalism don't buy into is.... i just don't see the point of slagging off this reveiw, for being 'terrible'/'lazy'/'embarrasing' etc.

... as for your last point it was the post above yours that seemed offended by the review, however the reliance on obscenities isn't shock tactics but rather to make people laugh...

If you want self illusionary serious faux objective commentary on the latest music fuck off and read some middle aged rock wank mag.

1. it is impossible to seperate, journalism and 'written for entertainment purposes' reveiws, whereas you can pretend to sit on a high horse and comment on the 'music' the allusion of doing so merely obscures the fact that it is just as personal/subjective/utterly arbitrary as making a few jokes and slagging something off
2.i cant beleive anyone who cant stand /gets offended by the public use of obscenities even begins to use dis (which is built around such jokes....'jokes' being the key word)

is was going to say that.... instead i'll take them to an internet cafe pay, for half an hour, find the website that creates random band names and then make them pick one better than vampire weekend, which - although there music is pretty aceo - is a thoroughly shite name

nottingham it would have been worth it - sadly they were incredibly dull, the sound was shit, and after seeing justice they were just a wee bit too average

im all for dis' partisan coverage of music.... i don't always agree with all the opinions on here... but who cares'... its not like i feel obliged to like or not like something depending on the adams and co editorial team!?!?

i've just worked out how good the drownloads section is! the idea of multiple labels - offering free music - all on one site is awesome!

collective heads with a major label deal...the album (what i've heard of it)and circumstances of it just shout SPLIT/MUSICAL OBLIVION to me ... which would be a shame becasue there a good band

went to a house party where they played about a year ago and it was probably in my top three shows of last year... at lee rosys they are going to be ace!

v. similar sentiments from me - after adoring the bands first two albums what i heard of the third from seeing it live and such put me off enough to stay clear...
