it's a tidy record
this is not a youthful sounding band and i can see why someone would be put off by them expecting that. They sound nothing like white lies, interpol or editors on the majority of the record. it's sombre but without the tension. it's like dark electric folk. it's done rather well and is an easy listen without being bland. Always Like This is a bit baggy and definitely my favorite track from the album but none of the singles really represent the album or the band as a whole.
better than earthly pleasures
sure it's not as sharp as certain trigger but it's far better than the last album which seemed aimless.
the first eight i can think of
white lies - death
jeremy warmsley - lose my cool
mystery jets - young love
florence and the machine - kiss with a fist
noah and the whale - shape of my heart
late of the pier - focker
ladyhawke - back of the van
the kills - what new york used to be
hmm
i was expecting this to get slated, but i am glad it didn't
i love this song
i didn't expect to like this song as much as i do, it sounds a bit amateur with the song slowing down awkwardly at the beginning and the vocals being slightly annoying, it is certainly repetitive but it's very charming. It's more like a melancholic pipettes then camera obscura.
this may be
the best Mystery Jets single to date. I love love love this song.
it's ok
but it's not that good.
don'tcare much for this song
OEP was the most disappointing album of the year for me and this single encapsulates everything I don't like about the album. It's dreary and dull. It's a rant about not being home, presumably because of their touring. it's overly wordy and disjointed. I find the choruses on this album have very little to do with the tracks they are attached. it's a frustrating listen.
i like em
i have the album and think it's very good. should appeal to fans of howling bells or duke spirit.
reminds me of Dogs
the band not the animal. it's pretty mediocre.
The first three EPs were great
don't dismiss voxtrot on the basis of this lackluster single and equally unexciting album. Their first three EPs were great. Track down Raised By Wolves, Mothers, Sisters, Daughters and Wives and Your Biggest Fan and you'll find there's a quite a lot of potential in this band.
this is my favourite song of the year so far
i love every bit of its enthusiasm.
The Statik remix
is Ace.
i thought i'd had enough of the thrills
but this album is fantastic and i can't get enough of it.
don't get it
this is the worst song i've heard from the album. it's not awful but rather dull for the bizzle.
i likes it too
not going to change the world but they don't make many pop songs like this anymore and it's rather refreshing.
shocked
i really expected Dis to hate this.
It was fantastic first time around
and it still is. It's ridiculously good really.
Not as good as Oklahoma
But a good track nonetheless. Better than a 6, at least a 7.5.
TEENAGERS remix
the remix is ace. that said not a fan of the band. they are very bland.
The METRONOMY remix
is brilliant. haven't heard the original yet.
this you can dance to
as opposed to D.A.N.C.E.which is really much too slow. Mr. Harris isn't breaking any ground and shouldn't win any awards but Merry Making, Girls and 80's are great on a dancefloor.
Can't even listen to it all the way through
worst bjork album yet. i have heard it all but not in one sitting.
Kubichek!!!
was the biggest surprise for me this year. was not expecting it to be half as good as it was.
Exactly
Pretentious drivel that sounds like it was written by a 12 year old.
mostly agree
not heard battles so no comment on that one but bloc party are crap and jamie t rocks. would also not The Rakes, Good Shoes and The Maccabees also delivered great albums and the Maximo Park was rather disappointing.
On Emusic
just got it on emusic this morning and it has Getting Special, new version different from the single version last year. It's good but most of the tracks were previously released on various singles and compilations.
i thought they were crap
when i first heard them but had read some positive reviews with comparisons to the long blondes. i thought i was missing something that maybe i had to hear it a couple of times but no they are crap and i liked bis and melody maker in 1998.
on the dior homme site
you can download it for free, i got it in march
LMT and The Frats
don't sound like the libertines either.
Looking Forward To It
looking forward to an album can often be a kiss of death but i've loved this band immensely from "won't you come around?" on and can't help but be very excited about this album. i've got it on order and await it's arrival impatiently.
was not a fan but this is ace
i got it for the covers by polytechnic and jeremy warmsley, which turned out to be heartbreakingly brilliant, plus i was surprised to find australia itself is an ace track in itself. it's slightly moody, it's got some bounce and the lyrics are original without sounding forced.
better than i expected
i thought i know kung fu was crap and loved reactor party. now i know kung fu has grown on me and i enjoy this album a hell of a lot more than i expected. it is a bit repetitive (very repetitive really). and sometimes sounds like they are ripping off klaxons. but they are doing an alright job at it and i can't get enough klaxons anyways.
10!!! Amazed
I love this album start to finish and would give it a ten myself. I couldn't even find fault with the booklet.
not from london
i live in canada.have it. love it and give two shits.
I heart Jamie T
I love this track. I love his drunken rhymin. it's brilliant.
BATTLE
The Bridge Gang, Jamie T, Elle Milano, Good Shoes and the Answering Machine are my top Picks.
Completely agree
I rarely agree with reviews around these parts and didn't expect to here with the 7/10 rating but I completely agree that tracks 2 and 4 really let the EP down and though I would have likely given it a higher rating on the back of O Creole.
This is not a good records by any means
but I enjoy it enough not to skip it when it comes on on my ipod and it makes me appreciate the better songs on my playlist a whole lot more.
Surprise
It's brilliant. I thought it would be shit and it's not at all. The B-side is a bit shit though.
I read and it makes no sense
Bands don't get big name producers to add credibility. They get big name producers to get proper production. This sounds ten times better than the demo and that's no mean feat and I think that it's largely down to the production.
The Bridge Gang are
Highly lovable. Second fantastic single. Bring on London Sky Tonight and the money will roll right in.
You must be missing the point
this is a brilliant song.
Too right
Start Again is definitely a standout track. Whoever decided it should be the b-side shouldn't be allowed to make anymore decisions.
Excellent pair of tracks
This is one of my favorite singles of recent months and the songs they have up one their site are great too. The remix of It's Magnetic is amazing.
I don't know if they got any better
But this album is great. It's completely absurd.
You know you're not supposed to like them
As I listen to em I always feel like I shouldn't be enjoying it and am slightly uncertain as to whether I actually am but Frontline is at the of my 25 songs most played, I must admit: I like Captain, more than just a little. and maybe I want to be more than friends.
ditto
I love em too. I haven't heard the album yet but the singles have been brilliant and their remixes are top, the remix of Battle's Children is genious.
LONDON!!!
The productions really quite flimsy but it's still a great track.
