a lot of posturing...

its great she's sober and happier but her music is going steadily downhill, The Greatest had 3 great songs (the greatest, lived in bars, love & communication) and the rest was utterly forgettable. this is all pretty forgettable and bland. bring back the days of moonpix & you are free.

backing track

a backing track? really? interesting. you might be right cos i was suprised how well Carl pulled them off. By the way, do you know anything about these extra 'challengers' tracks? there was an 'exclusive' early purchase thing online, but i think only available in america. there are a number of extra tracks out there somewhere but i don't know how to get my hands on them. any info?

Calder & Case

i saw them in dublin recently and really enjoyed them, i'm a big fan. it was disappinting if not suprising that Neko and Dan weren't there but i was suprised that Carl sang so many of Dan's songs, and they worked. I've been suprised also at the lukewarm reception the albums gotten. I think its typically great. One thing though, can you tell the difference between Kathryn's and Neko's vocals? Its pretty hard to distinguish, and I'm a huge Neko fan. If they were gonna bring in another girl vocalist it would have been nice to get something a bit different. Kathryn Calder is a good singer, but live she didn't really have the strength of someone like Neko Case. Hope Neko continues recording with them though, she brings something a bit special to the mix. Looking forward to the new Destroyer album too!

Nina Nastasia

Nina Nastasia & Jim White's 'you follow me', should be there, its marvellous, as should Kristin Hersh, Besnard Lakes, Low, Marissa Nadler, Okkervil River, Bjork, St Vincent, New Pornographers, Sunset Rubdown, The Good Bad & Queen, Cathy Davey, Band Of Horses, Bat For Lashes and Iron & Wine!

videos

i've been really disappointed with the videos for the 1st 2 singles, much and all as i like the songs. i expected a lot more, maybe PJ has lost interest in this medium, they have both been a bit lazy looking. love the album though.

NINA NASTASIA & JIM WHITE

lots of people have mentioned Okkervil River, The Besnard Lakes and Marissa Nadler and i agree, so i won't mention them again, oh sorry just did, but i cannot believe that nobody, nobody mentioned the genuinely incredible Nina Nastasia & Jim White album 'You Follow Me'. it is really beautiful, awesome drumming, great talents, sadly forgotten again. oh well. nice to see someone mention another oft-ignored fav of mine Kristin Hersh, another fine album dismissed, thats the price she pays for consistantly putting out great albums, she's completely taken for granted.
