The reverse snobbery thing is always irritating
I keep thinking of Nicky Wire recently sneering at Ed O'Brien being from a boarding school or something (which in Wire's eyes disqualified Ed O'Brien from taking a position on downloading). It seems to be depressingly the case that snobbery works in all directions in music.
Great news
Great band.
And Distortion was underrated.
I take it
you're not a fan of The Avlanches or The La's then?
Good to see Do Make Say Think
A shame there's no Annie though
Er...
I like both bands.
I thought Chemistry of Common Life was terrific
Really don't understand the shit reception it got on here
This is very good
and Two is one of the best songs of the year
You were doing so well
until the last third of that post
This is OK but not great
Rooty and Kish Kash are both still fantastic records though.
Don't Look Back or anything along those lines sounds unlikely
3 shows in London and nowhere else on the other hand...
I'm happy
First record was great.
Yeah
I mean bands like Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys (with their latest album) - everyone hates them on DiS. And we all love Pete Doherty!
I agree that some people are a little harsh on Muse here, I wasn't crazy about the last album, but there was enough good stuff in the first half of it. But it's obvious that the direction they've headed in was always going to be somewhat polarising.
I'd say try The Glow Part 2
or It Was Hot, We Stayed in the Water as a starting point.
I assume there's slight exaggeration intended there
But who knows, maybe they actually think that.
Anyway, new album is very good.
You just RIP every band
who do a below par album don't you. God forbid they might ever do...another (better) album!
Anyway the reviews for this that I've seen (and what people have said on DiS) doen't seem to encourage me for this new album. A shame really as I loved Visiter. Though the NME review seemed to be slagging off the band rather than the album.
She was on two or three tracks on 100th Window I thought
That one with the lyrics about Jah was pretty cringeworthy though yeah
They might have had different reviewers
and there's the concept that said reviewers might have different opinions on either album to you.
It's better than the Sputnikmusic review at least
That was basically the reviewer ranting how much he hated the last two Interpol albums the whole way through.
I don't know
You've seen the Pitchfork review of Get Born by Jet right?
Like the NME giving it 2/10
your comment is a ringing endorsement
Last year's self-titled
was much better than Cassadaga I felt
The Phantom Band are 'indie schmindie'?
Camera Obscura and Malcolm Middleton are also great off that list anyway.
Doves should have been there I think
also Antony and the Johnsons, The Crying Light is terrific. But I guess it's like this every year, we all have a list of omissions.
Bat for Lashes to win anyway.
The reviewer clearly is no fan
The only odd thing I'd say there is they give it a 5 but the review reads like they're giving it a far worse score.
What I've heard sounds good, though Laughing With is a bit patronising in its subject matter.
Yeah Alan Sparhawk did
Kind of negates the point when you tell people to lay off one guy then have a go at another person for also having mental issues to sort out.
...
"I could also say for all practical purposes Jeff killed Jay by kicking him out of the band. I wonder if now that Jay is dead if Jeff has any remorse at all for what he did."
Is this supposed to be serious?
Most of the reviews I've seen have been good
It has over 80 on Metacritic too.
Good album anyway.
Time Out of Mind and Love and Theft
May not be quite as good as some people said at the time but both are pretty good albums, and Modern Times wasn't bad either. 'Boring and impotent for years?' - he's been far better since 1997 than he was in the 20 years or so beforehand.
Considering that you said
"there are barely any good women in indie rock", I'll take your views with a pinch of salt
I loved their album artwork
when it was Pete Fowler doing it, it's since they got the Japanese guy in it's become so godawful.
Your comments have been taken on board
And will be summarily ignored.
Bonus disc is called Useless Creatures
Instrumental tracks (and it's about 47 minutes in total so it's like having a bonus album with the main one), pretty good overall.
Phantom Band came out in January I think
Just to say
You mean Love Kraft surely?
Hey Venus was plenty fast enough. Either way, it's new SFA and I can't wait.
Really looking forward to this
Loved all their albums to date
Your loss
I got this on the back of Pitchfork's 10.0 review, and it's great. Love it, especially the sampling.
Didn't Things We Lost in the Fire come out in 2001?
Great article. I love Low, brilliant band.
Canada is one of my favourite songs of theirs though.
I agree
If wrightylew hates it, chances are I'll like it (and vice versa) - and so it has proved here!
I really like their EP
looking forward to the debut album
Great album
Definitely in my top 10 of the year.
Now I need to listen to her debut...
Whatever else happens in her career
You Are Free is fantastic
Agreed about Gorillaz
Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head - aceness
Misstep?
I think it's his best album.
Looking forward to this
If anything the second album is underrated, though it gets sloppy in the latter half (bar the great title track and Fade Together).
It's been a while though, so will have to see. And Franz Ferdinand is for posing to rather than having fun to? Rubbish. And I love how people always sneer at music when they say it's not 'fun' - there's music you like and music you don't. If you like it it's fun on at least some level anyway.
Pretentious tosser - maybe (that wouldn't make him unique in music though)
Crap, dull band? - no bloody way.
No Cities Left is brilliant. Really, really great album.
Most overly generous review?
8/10 seems to be the average score I've been seeing for this album - surely they're all being overly generous then.
Looking forward to this.
Hooray!
someone agrees with me.
Wait
Until you see the Of Montreal one.

They're not the only ones who have slated it
Must be a big Pitchfork-led conspiracy against Banhart huh
