The kids sure love the dead...?

Classic campaign Saatchi & Saatchi... Idiots.

Fuck Glastonbury...

Bristol can drum up 2 mini festivals in 2 weekends!

Broke, fix me

Been looking forward to it. Can't really afford the ticket AND to drink though! So i've entered cette competition, with what i'd describe as a "well educated guess". I mean, like, "well educated, innit".

Nah, it wasn't...

He even said; "whoever 'reviewed' this"... despite the reviewer's name being clearly stated at the head of the article.

I believe the point is that music should be reviewed on its merits, and that hype and accessibility needn't be a major point of focus.

Personally i thought the review was okay, but cannot judge whether i agree accurately, as have not heard the album nor the preceding EP.

...

Simon Amstell is genius! Grew on me with Popworld. And on the new series of Never Mind the Buzzocks, constantly had me in hysterics.

Alex Zane isn't very funny. Though i do like some of his fake gameshows on Balls of Steel.

Sadness is probably...

Thinking you're too cool to watch Adam Sandler films or romantic comedies!

If they just aren't your cup of tea, fair enough.

Anyway, Click would break even the Tin Man's heart (or Scarecrow, whichever it is).

The View are shit

Brimful of Asha... ha ha ha

No, sadness is

The tail end of Adam Sandler movie "Click"...

Poor pete

Ha ha... Titus Bramble. Come on though, Pete touches a lot of people with his music and heart. Don't compare him to Newcastle's defence, nor mock him. Drugs'll do bad things to people. I don't suppose anyone here has ever tried drugs? Oh no no no.

Also, was anyone seriously considering the credentials of a Daily Mirror story?! Poorly devised and researched even for the Mirror.

1st album was a masterpiece

This one, have had for quite a long time. Originally listened once and then stayed away. But after giving it a fair shot, honestly, its pretty good. Immesurably different; a little over delicate perhaps. But actually, once accepted into your system, pretty good. I may try get to Oxford. Saw them there supported by Walkmen few years back (one of the best gigs ever).

I BUM THE OPEN

I appreciate this is a very behind the times comment.... but... I loved the 1st album, and this one was quite possibly, even better. Certainly magical. Ethereal is also, a highly suitable word for it. Some of the tracks do take their time, and why not, they are their songs. If they need to smoulder, let them. I was fortunate enough to see The Open quite a few times. On one occasion touring this album. Was gutted they split up, because they were a special band i think. Easily one of the best of the decade. In my humble opinion. I miss them a lot frankly. I really should have a look to see if they have moved onto other projects. Would advise anybody to listen to both albums a few times over.

Somehow

... almost raised a smile. Intentional pun?

Arty pants

I fail to see how artwork or a band name has any relevance to the music. Unless the tracks were etched into artwork and played on a turntable. Now that would be relevant. Haven't heard this song, but hoping i like it, as fancied they'd be one album wonders, to coin a phrase.

Nice Review

I've previously slated them as well. What's with the keyboard player? He even danced "intensely" to the intro/outro's on the (pretty woeful) Friday Night Project on channel 4 awhile back. Yes, i was in on a Friday. Yes, this is a Saturday night. Yes, i should get out more.

The Automatic are No.4 in the charts? They ARE shit though!?

Oh well. New Walkmen album.... Thumbs up.

Stellastarr* - Harmonies For The Haunted

Indeed, it lacks the really brilliant tracks of the first album, such as My Coco, Pulp Song and Jenny. But i like The Diver a lot, my favourite on the album. Good album.

Editors

Forward Russia are so good INNIT! Editiors were pretty awful live though, i was somewhat surprised and disappointed. I'm willing to forgive and forget however.

Re: Louis XIV swagger onto UK shores

Ha ha! That was an awesome review! I've still not heard any of their stuff, but had thought they were supposed to be good.... until now anyway! Are they not then, anyone?

Tom Vek - C-C (You Set The Fire In Me)

I like this song. Have been singing it loudly in random locations for weeks. Comparing him to Beck and thus giving him a dodgy review seems a little unfair.

Re: The Faint - Desperate Guys

Ha! This is very true! I'm glad they've remained fairly low key to be honest though. Wouldn't be the same seeing them play big venues.

Cribs gear up for LP with instores and FROG gigs

Guessing this album is brilliant. Bit short on cash so havent purchased yet, but i have a feeling it might be even better than the first. Though i'm only basing that on Hey Scenesters and a couple of Mirror Kissers listens. Oh, and they played a lot of new ones live, but i can't remember them now anyway!

Why only 2 instore gigs though? Too interfering with their busy drinking schedule?! Hardly even news!

Ladytron

I would really like to see Ladytron, even though i fully believe your review that it may lack a little something. Seventeen is a fucking great song, and though it almost lacks depth, it kind of has ample depth at the same time (um.... talking rubbish?!).... and i can only hope its in the encore when i see them one day.

I really liked 1984. A classic certainly. Though it still might not live up to your expectations, given its fame.

First ever Drowned in Sound download compilation

I refrained from mentioning previously that Isabelle isn't exactly Battle's best song. I know that's all personal opinion, and that the band probably want that song releasing or something or other. But it's not all that good. Tendency is their best song i've heard to date. Going to see Supersystem tonight.

The Cribs - Mirror Kisses

Hmmm, well i've heard the cover and thought it was charming! I don't think that they're trying to hit the mainstream just because they're covering a mates song, who happen to be enormously popular nowadays.

Jools 'Stoner' Holland DVD

Wow i just posted in a really old thread...! Oh well. Echo.... echo....

Jools 'Stoner' Holland DVD

I fucking love that program. And why IS it only on about 6 weeks a year?! It should be on at least 37 weeks a year. Saw the last few minutes last night (after an awesome Little Flames/ Arctic Moneys gig), and The Coral looked like they were really going for it. Other great performances i recall off the top of my head... Libertines, Joanna Newsom, and Arcade Fire t'other week!

Re: Arctic Monkeys - Five Minutes With Arctic Monkeys

I spy no insults in my reply...!?

And i MAY have been exaggerating! Also if you say "I live in a terraced house" for comedy value, i was unaware.

Listen to some Arctic Monkeys anyway, they sparkle. And Little Flames are supporting them on tour which'll make for a brilliant gig.

Robbie records to be deleted

I still love it that Hitler was just a wannabee German.

Also, pop music isn't necessarily bad, and i think its probably fair to say he's had some good songs out in his time, even if i wouldn't go out and buy or listen to them personally. Still, he does seem to be a tosser.

Carling drinkers: your music taste is as poor as your taste in beer...

Mmm, John Smiths is my classic choice. Or anything along those lines... Worthingtons, Tetleys, Bass (often at gigs), Boddingtons, London Pride etc.

I had some carling again the other night at one of their stunning venues... it really isn't very nice! Cheap though, so fair play to them!

Oh, and i've slept with Robbie Williams.

Re: Arctic Monkeys - Five Minutes With Arctic Monkeys

You live in a terraced house?! Who gives a toss? You make the worst "point" i have ever read.

Maximo Park

I missed the Rakes in Bristol because of monetary reasons, so still haven't seen them. Maximo Park are great live though, really really good. Like that TOTP performance, but for a whole set.

Arctic Monkeys - Five Minutes With Arctic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys are great. I know it, you know it. Admittedly (and i hope it doesn't), their career may only span a year or so. But their songs are awesome, and they deserve to sleep with many desperate and shameless indie girls.

"I bet that you look good on the dancefloor... dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984.... from 1984."

The Bravery - Fearless

The video is rubbish yes. And they are ridiculous posers, which is quite funny to watch. Not bad tunes though... "No Breaks" being my personal favourite. This ones not bad, but its hardly their best effort.

Nine Black Alps - Not Everyone

Pretty awful this song is. Nirvana they want to be. Cringeworthy find it you may.

The Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)

This song is just too damn good! And i thought they were unbelievable on Jools Holland, it hurt me deeply that i'd missed them the week before in bristol, due to lack of funds. And last night i was told they played for an hour then did an hour long encore.... sometimes i wish i wasn't such a macho manly man, so i could cry.

Kaiser Chiefs - Every Day I Love You Less And Less

This song makes me happy. Therefore i love it. And for all the haters, its pop music, deal with it! The OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH's are great fun to song along with, hence make it into every song!

Bright Eyes and The Faint - it's a togetherness thing

I would give somebody elses leg to go to one of these gigs. It would be one of the greatest gigs of all time, provided The Faint got enough stage time. Oh, and "Desperate Guys" would go to number one in a sane and fair world, though does seem like an old song by now.

Weezer - Beverly Hills

I don't think the song is supposed to be taken at face value!

Maximo Park - A Certain Trigger

I think Acrobat is good! The line about the sky being used as a metaphor because "it's so big and expansive" makes me chuckle everytime mind you! But its an emotional song, and as with most of their songs, it sounds to me like it was written about my life. Apply Some Pressure is still song of the year so far. And i imagine they WILL be around for a second album, and that one will probably piss all over the futureheads as well. I don't like the 2 bands being compared, there's a gulf in class in my mind!
