yeah
"a ghoulish seven-minute visitation that lumbers hesitantly in like the zombified cadaver of grunge itself, pauses momentarily for effect, then promptly tears its own face off and eats it."
brilliant.
i'd quite like to listen to this now.

haha... brilliant. i'd quite like to listen to this now.
great p.r.
nice one. including a short rant against everyone's favourite bogey man rupert murdoch. who obviously has a lot to do with this.
surely the fundamental point is that myspace is a private organisation and can do whatever the hell they like? ie they can delete edwyn collin's whole myspace tomorrow for no reason, and he'll have no recourse. free streaming is not some sort of human right.
as for the copyright issue, it seems, mm, fairly unusual. as far as i'm aware myspace's protocol works well most of the time. the real issue here is with warners' who are naturally not quick to give up commercial rights to old artists. and, with respect to grace, if she was a manager worth her salt, she'd be able to deal with this pretty easily. i can't see her crusade getting easier now that she's vented to the guardian.
"nobody talks like that in real life"
er, have you ever been to oxford?
...!
nick mason in "suggesting people learn how to play an instrument" ironic statement.
i've read that last paragraph
several times now. and i still don't follow it.
mainstream ageing youth mess?
deftones
for xmas atp!
i would without doubt give away one of my non-essential organs to see that.
what IS the future of the left?
these guys should be on newsnight right now. a bit of punditry, a bit of press. it's a win-win situation.
teeee
shirrrrt
a. saint dymphna
awesome tshit.
i
think i was at that crystal palace game. yeeears ago. maybe.
anyway. i like this. it's pretty much all true. ah britain.
no
no-one cares about baile funk anymore
everyone in the country and indeed the whole world is acutely tuned into the latest developments in the world of elitist messageboard music fans.
i'm pretty sure
that there's only one gigsy
wtf
go-karting! "something you can do when on tour"?!
it's not exactly the first thing that springs to mind in terms of availability, ease of access, or thrift...
cool
so she likes cheesy classic pop songs on the one hand. and cheesy terrible electro on the other. subtle and sophisticated kate perry.
junior boys
really need to remix something off limbo, panto
and
does anyone else think hollybrook park by joker sounds remarkably like metronomy?
wish
i had the money for 12"s! i get by on the dribs and drabs of mp3 offerings. which isn't very much when these scene is apparently so vinyl-elitist.
so... quest. that'll have to wait. in the meantime i'm loving that recent gemmy release. bk 2 the future is a massive tune.
hear
hear
ableton
just a laptop. true story. all the amps are hollow.
where
not wear. duh.
well
is it good?!
mystery jets
was pretty bloody emotional. dunno if crowd felt it. they were singing like they felt it. what a show. what a vindication!
maybe
he struggles to breathe in that small waistcoat. he should get a personal tailor.
he always looks so...
awkward! poor little man. does he actually enjoy himself?
ALSO
really, who cares what ian brown has to say nowadays, when he comes out with songs like sister rose that get remixed by various production. that's the future, regardless of what he thinks. big big tune.
i
agree pretty much entirely. well said.
great albums, brilliant timing... and that's pretty much it, isn't it.
defenesless, humourless, and paranoid.
<3
it's all about shiraz, isn't it.
also
they're brilliant on record. their album will be killer. so long as it isn't rehashed songs. which i doubt it will be.
i missed all but
the last three danaananaykroyd songs. why were they on so early?! i could have cried. apparently they played infinity milk for the first time. what treats. what sorrowfully missed treats.
they really are the best live band going, aren't they? if only they were playing field day.
urg
so many clashes
i guess that's what happens when you have such a killer line-up ...
exactly
simian mobile disco are basically a remix band. they remix other bands, they're remixed by other bands, they remix themselves, etc. that's the nature of what they do. dismissing the record from the outset as "the usual" filler is entirely missing the point. the whole smd project is collaborative. this album is equal with their debut in the context of the scene.
i haven't actually listened to the record btw. but i know a lot of the remixes and i like quite a few of them. i agree that the joakim mix is the best (pretty much all joakim remixes are the best!). i'm happy to believe there's a lot of middling dross on the record. but isn't there quite a lot of middling dross on the debut? it's all hit and miss.
why
has someone who doesn't like remixes been given a remix album to review. what a load of bollocks.
oh dear
you missed low
burial is to dubstep
as roni size is in no way to drum and bass. the former is on the periphery of dubstep, isn't remotely dancefloor or radio friendly, and sounds nothing like about 90% of dubstep artists. compare his album to a "hit" like benga's. they're nothing alike. roni size on the other hand represented the popular mainstream of drum and bass and in a sense its commerical pinnacle. okay, i'm not being very coherent, but my point is simply that if burial wins it's going to be a massive achievement for him, if an unwelcome and probably personally counterproductive, but it won't have much to do with bringing dubstep into the mainstream, as he has not all that much to do with either dubstep or the mainstream. right. yes.
problem wit burial winning
is... that he's not very likely to perform at the show, and therefore not very likely to win, because that's how it works apparently. which is sort of a shame but mostly not a shame at all as he's better than the whole list put together (er, minus radiohead). xx
should've
taken rolo tomassi, obv.
he was just partying
matt was there too.
you're right
it is truly a shame that no-one got horribly injured to the extent that their lives were ruined.
more than 2 people stepped in
about 30 people stepped in. it was total chaos. no-one knew what had happened besides kele, ricky, and the sex pistols. but it got out of hand so fast that it didn't even matter. the spanish security guards were total thugs. yannis actually got knocked out for a few seconds after he got strong-armed to the floor and handcuffed. our tour manager was put in a headlock after asking the security to let us go as we had a flight to catch to england. jimmy went beetroot at one point lying in the dust. walter has a swollen eye. i managed to sustain a knee injury at some point which was remarkable given that i barely got involved.
anyway, yeah, security's method of dealing with it was to drag everyone to the floor, keep them there, then kick us all out of the festival as fast as possible. good times. what a great day we all had.
anyway, this is the first i've heard about what was said between the sex pistols and kele. i'm pretty surprised. i know john lydon is a dick, but i've always considered him to be intentionally theatrical and pretty decent/intelligent underneath all of that. i guess the sex pistols' company brings it out of him.
but
if you don't want the opinion of djs and journalists, whose opinion do you want? your own? someone else on drownedinsound with very tasteful and esoteric music tastes? unfortunately the the award attempts to appeal to more than 10 people. somewhere around 1 million people, i'd imagine. that means searching for the middle ground that offers both artistically interesting and popular records. the middle ground: a surprisingly difficult place to find.
can i humbly suggest
leaving the house more often.
SO
i was there, at the front, in madrid, and it was INCREDIBLE. i loved every minute of it. i was physically tingling for a good half an hour of the show. it was as good as i wanted it to be. oh, what a noise.
i bought the record in 1998 or so when i was pretty young, and i loved it, and it got me into a lot of good music, but i've never seen them live, so i feel now that i am a little closer to dying happy...
wow
they sold half a million records? shit, that means i need to stop liking them
smug
fuck
xx
i think
it's a great band name. and what could be better inspiration than the later pil records? okay, don't answer that question. still, it's intriguing. i am desperate to know whether jamie reynolds is actually a good musician or not. anything he does prior to a new klaxons record is exciting to me.
midnight request line
i've never understood why it's rated so much, so i certainly don't understand why it's been re-released.
killer
