'mature' BritneyAlike mimes at Glasto shock..
talentless bint .. nuff said
complicated but good for it
its nice to see a band trying to do something really NEW instead of just appealing to the lowest common denominator and ripping everyone else off and calling it there own. I think some of the songs on this album have been around a while but the new production gives them a new lease of life. some fantastic ideas and blow me down theyre a 3 piece with a cello .. think about it .. its a very big, complex sound for a weedy trio!
I like owens songwriting, he's obviously a person who is a songwriter in the old school sense of the word, he really seems to work at it and craft a song rather than just slinging it together .. verse, chorus, verse, chorus blah blah.
Nice.
It rewards repeated listening, its sad that in this day and age most people can't be arsed to take the time with anything and really listen to whats going on (which is why we have ended up with loads and loads of crap, meaningless, disposable music - how many 'next big things' do we see come and go every month)
do your ears a favour and give it a few listens, there's something beautifully whimsical about this album. They're bloody good live too.
someones dad has a great record collection ..
this is a really good album, of course its not original, but then what is these days? everything thats coming out of indie or alternatives hallowed halls sounds like its an 80s transplant. The Horrors (really) arn't afraid to wear their influences on their sleeves (and boy are those sleeves big) but at least this sounds like its from post punk 1978 rather than spandau ballet early 80s. PiL, Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the list is a long one and it can all be clearly heard within, however what the horrors have done is woven this into something that is a whole lot bigger than the sum of its parts, there is a definate cohesion to this album and it all flows pretty well, the spectorish wall of sound linking all the songs together, and there is also the feeling that the band are actually beginning to learn their instruments rather than just pretending to be The Cramps. I think that they are quite lucky as the majority of people who hear this album won't have heard many of the bands that have heavily influenced it. (c'mon, I Cant Control Myself - I was waiting for siouxsie to start singing ..)
Bravo. album of the year thus far.
I wonder if they can do it live?
pancakes ..
I think the album sounds a bit flat, contains little of the spontaneity/energy of their live shows, there are some good songs but the production seems to squeeze all the life out of them. Dissapointing really, but then a band that's been hyped as much as this will always find it hard to live up to. If youre looking for something a bit different you'd be much better off with Battles or even Grammatics

ZZZzzzzzz
Muse by numbers, getting tiring/boring. they'll always be a top live draw but we didnt need this Queen wannabee mishmash. I played it to a mate of mine and I slid a track off a night at the opera in there and he loved it, he was dissapointed that it was Queen and not Muse which says everything you now need to know about your average Muse fan.
sounds like they can't be arsed trying anymore, what happened to the vibrancy and diversity of showbiz? the heavyness of Absolution?
come on chaps, do us a favour and split up, leave us with only good memories rather than a bitter 'fat elvis' aftertaste.
