If MP3's could be worn out from overplaying
then my copies of bicycle, green knight and plain material would be barely listenable. I should probably reset my last.fm in case people think i'm some sort of obsessive weirdo - however, memory tapes is THAT good
i remember dan_thw
sending me a few demo's a year or so ago and really enjoying them, forever on the edge especially, has been on many on-the-go playlists over the past few months. Where can i get hold of this?
Well, I thought this was
a very good review. Nice to see DiS put aside indie-credentials and have a proper listen to the record
you should hop on over
to the scouting for girls album review then...
3 is a remarkably low score
There's a wealth of ideas and textures in this album, it takes a few listens to unearth some of them but I'm finding it really rewarding on the sixth or seventh hearing
I'm not too keen on the mastering either though, it makes a lot of the songs sound overly messy and loud, with his voice struggling to break through the mugginess - The last three songs top anything from the latter half of First Impressions.. for me
There's something about
the wryly affected vibrato on the opening line
'in december drinking horchaata'
that strikes me as really pompous and irritating. I think this is the end of the road for me and Vampire Weekend.
All very well and good
except I wrote that song way back in 1942 in an attempt to woo Joan Fontaine. Beautiful woman, beautiful woman
I'm not sure how Happy House
avoided the Pitchfork 500, seeing as it was in their top 20 songs of the year - anyway, I don't see why they aren't more well known either, they are fantastic live and on record
i'm three tracks into the album after reading this review..
and I'm finding it to be really special indeed so far..
At first I put it on in the background, now its commanding all my attention.. I'm very impressed
Google is your friend
It detracts from a pretty good review when there's so many mistakes
Surely
you could consider the Marshall Mathers LP as a career-defining opus?
He could never top that
yeh i was too
every source seems to agree they're crap live though, i console myself with this knowledge
looking forward to
checking out some of these - thanks
can't believe passion pit didn't take your fancy enough to be featured. what with them being brilliant n all
this must've been hard to write
i mean, if an infant scrawled on me in permanent marker i wouldn't review it, so why extend the same courtesy to this?
the toilet
flush has texture and mood, an organic liquid soundscape at just 23 seconds long, a punk masterpiece really
The vines used to be my favourite band when i was 17.
drowned in sound
should be a music-discussion free zone
this has album of the year written all over it..
Such a refreshingly innovative album, combusting at the seams with creativity - Couldn't praise Erol Alkan enough for the production, every song is speaker-meltingly hot...
Special mention to enemy are the future though, because yes, after tearing your ears off with techno-guitar brainfreeze in Focker, they nonchalantly breeze into throbbing NY house amazingness
so much better than myths of the near future. so so much better its funny
God
I love Bright Eyes so much
I don't think many people could argue that Lifted is his absolute pinnacle as an artist - he just bleeds raw talent all over that album, its a complete masterpiece.
My bright eyes compilation would have to feature No Lies Just Love though..
Castle Donington
Safe
that videos
not really cool enough for me
Leaving off Hummer and Mathletics -
Brave or foolish?
he seemed like a great guy. RIP. This is from popbitch....
RIP Pavarotti. We recall a story we wrote about him in 2003. While rehearsing for his farewell performance at Covent Garden, Pavarotti sloped off to his dressing room with two female dancers. And was discovered a little later, by the runner sent to retrieve him, enjoying oral sex from one, while the other held his stomach out of the way.
bonafied lovin'
great single choice. The coolest and most fun band in the world
'if they meant it
they would sell the CD in a blank case, but that would be suicide'
is bang on. This is fuck all to do with art or music. Its just a lame gimmick to get people talking and to generate publicity, I mean, when else would a thread about Hard-Fi generate this many replies?
Its shite
well I haven't heard
the album, but I think that Leni is one of the best pop songs this year, its like upbeat yet tragic, a combination which they seem to achieve often -
Start/Stop is a masterpiece to my ears, The Illness is wicked, and Turn it Back has great guitar work and drips with vocal hooks.
This is a rambling way of saying I love goodbooks! and hate bands of the snooze patrol/athlete ilk, they are overflowing with ideas, textures and melodies and this review doesn't hit the nail on the head for me at all
What a rank mess
of a tour. Jesus. Awful awful awful
i love this band
can't wait for the album
I was expecting to see
a score of 4 or 5 after reading the review!
I used to see them play a lot in Sheffield, always enjoyable
debatable
needy girl is awesome, but even its might is eclipsed by some of the songs on this newie
This album is an absolute joy
slick disco funk coolness with added Streets of Rage synth and hip-hop beats. So SO SO SO good.
Editors
are an empty, soulless husk of a band compared to Interpol
i've purposefully
not downloaded anything from this album so i can have an old fashioned treat of a listen - I love interpol, TOTBL one of my fav ever albums for sure, good review, i'm exited about this
^ agreed
the review isn't particularly savage and isn't riddled with the sort of hyperbole you'd find in NME - it's an honest review cleverly written I think
Surely
everyone has the choice of paying for a CD with all its artwork and packaging which you can easily burn to MP3, or for the same price just buying the album off iTunes.
Why would anyone choose the latter? What are the benefits of not owning the lovely CD? I wouldn't feel I'd paid for anything just buying mp3s online, given how easily available illegal copies are anyway
I'd cave my own head in
if a band actually came out called the glowsticks. In fact I might patent the name, just to ensure it never happens
thats a fucking awesome story
i'd of jumped on him
worst review i've
ever read
I don't like that review
Its really horribly written, soo Mark Beamont
fucking hell!
whats everyone's big problem with them?
...
"repetitive, patience-bending, mind-crippling, shit-shovelling slice of beyond-basic drivel"
Mike Diver is the new Charlie Brooker - I enjoyed the review, its probably over-zealous in its criticism though, don't turn all NME now!
urgh
worst Justice song by a mile
he's
a truly great guy, funny, clever, down to earth, honest, and a great musician
can't wait
for this, I'm in love all the singles so far, and start/stop is frighteningly awesome. well good album closer
