This can only be a good thing!

Great timing as well. I got copies of Raise and Mezcal Head by Swervedriver last week, as well as the singles compilation from The Telescopes. I'm hoping you've got a Telescopes piece up your sleeve Dom. If you haven't then I don't know who will!

b)

It’s Jo & Danny

I've been checking them out on Myspace

They sound wicked. I'm hoping to pick up their album in New York in a couple of weeks, for that authentic feel!

I doff my hat to you Dom

As the man who introduced me to My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and Ride (and so much more), I salute you mate.
Always keep an eye out for stuff from the mighty Epic45 though. They just keep getting better and, as part of the July Skies live band, I can't see that changing any time soon.

Finally...

I thought it was just me that found every time I watched they cut to Roland Rivron. What exactly does Roland Rivron do?

The Starries

The Starries were absolutely quality. I remember great days of them playing Bearos Christmas Parties at the Jug of Ale, while Kiplings mince pies were being handed out to anyone who wanted one.
Mind you, not quite as memorable as the performance by Baxxter which ended with a certain bass player in the middle of the dancefloor with his trousers around his ankles, still playing his bass as if nothing was unusual about the situation.
I'll always think that the Birmingham band that should have been huge though were Jameson. Legends in my eyes.

The answer is...

A) Grasshopper

Glasvegas in Guildford

They were mint at the Guildford Boilerooms last week. James Allan seemed like a decent bloke as well. Fair play to him.

The Newport in Shropshire does exist.

I live there.

The Workhouse

How great would it be if The Workhouse got a nomination!?
To be honest though, I'm not sure Bearos would have nominated them. I'm not sure how strong the links between them and the Mercury Music Prize are.

Steve Lamacq is a top bloke

Say what you want about his radio shows (although I'll always say he is a legend after growing up listening to the Evening Session doing my homework), but he is a thoroughly nice chap from what I know.
I once went to a signing he did in Nottingham when his book came out. We had a chat about Elastica because I was wearing an Elastica tshirt.
I had no idea at the time that Lamacq was behind Deception Records, so I must have seemed like a bit of an obsessive when I rocked up.
Lovely bloke though and the Radio 1 airwaves will be a poorer place without him if he decides to sack them off.

The Organ!

Tremendous. And Trademark. Superb.

So are they a four-piece again?

I think I read they were looking for a bassist, but have they got one now?

Saw them at Wolverhampton...

...and as expected they were HUGE and stunning.
The new material worked so well alongside the old. The duo of New Paths To Helicon Part 2 followed by Glasgow Mega-Snake was incredible.
It was about the sixth time I've seen them, yet still they blew me away.
I love this band soooooo much.

Tonka trucks rule!

I had two. One with a bucket on the front and another that was a bit similar to a JCB. I want to play about on Tonka trucks all day now, but instead have a day at work to plough through.

Er...I mean Sunday.

I'd be pretty disappointed if I turned up on Wednesday. He'd probably be at Bedford or somewhere random. He certainly won't be in Wolverhampton.

I love KC...

Going to see him at the Little Civic in Wolverhampton on Wednesday night and cannot wait.
Am I right in thinking he will be playing with The Earlies as his backing band? I saw him at Bar Academy in Birmingham supporting Arab Strap last year when it was just him and an accordian. Absolutely superb.

It's on my doorstep...

...so there was no way I was missing out on seeing Radiohead play Weston Park.
I don't care what everyone says about V, it's so close to me I can't miss out.
Pluse I got free tickets to cover it for the Shropshire Star last year so that was mint.
Clean toilets, no queues for beer and grabbed a quick chat with Roddy Woomble and Rod Jones from Idlewild. Mint.

Magnetophone!

And apparently King Creosote and Sonic Boom will join them. I'm going to be sick with envy.
And Aphex Twin, Mogwai, Arab Strap and the rest of those cheeky monkeys.
Why do these things never happen in Shropshire.
I'll tell you why, because everyone is old!

One day...

I am going to make it to a Nottingham DiS night! Good stuff Dom, it looks like a cracking night.

It wasn't that bad...

I was sat there for about an hour, and then whizzed off straight away as soon as you actually get onto the main road.
You should try getting off the car park at V at Weston Park on a Sunday night. I've sat there for nearly three hours before.
No fun at all. Especially sat next to a car full of people with Scissor Sisters on at full volume, dinned out only by the nagging blasts of Nissan Micra horn.

I don't think mine does.

The end of the track ends with a sort of squelch similar to the end of Karma Police anyway doesn't it? Blimey, the fact that I can't remember means it is seriously time to dig it out and give it a spin again.

No way...

Souvaris are superb. I met Simmo from the band once because I was stood in the Resuce Rooms in Nottingham wearing a Bearos t-shirt. The label had just released their album, which I had also just been sent.
It's a small world!

I was there too

I saw them at Truck and agree they were a bit average.
To be fair though, the bass player looked really cool, so every cloud...

Re: Towers of London - Fuck It Up

I saw them hanging round at Truck making twats of themselves and gurning for any misguided person who wanted a photograph of them.
What a bunch of dicks.

Re: Crosbi hit the road

No seriously, they are top notch. Really distinctive, and yet have bags of quality tunes.
Check out their website www.crosbi.com where you can have a listen to some stuff for yourself.
Otherwise, get down to one of these gigs.

Malcolm Middleton - Into The Woods

This is truly fantastic. His debut was hugely underrated. The guy is a legend and it just makes me pine for a new Arab Strap album even more. And please God, a tour!

Carling drinkers: your music taste is as poor as y

Don't shit on 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'. That truly is the greatest single of all time. Up there 'Come Out 2Nite' by Kenickie. Superb.

Justin Hawkins: tackles donut, breaks ribs for aft

That darts programme sounds great, but if only it wasn't him presenting it.
I wonder if Georgie 'The Puppy' Noble will do a spot of refereeing?
If I was going on, I'd want to partner Steve 'The Adonis' Beaton, or maybe Dutchman Co Stompe, with his unusual throwing style.

Les Incompetents, most entertaining band in London

Have they taken their name from Home Alone? The bit where Kevin McAllister's cousin goes up to him and says: "You're what the French call Les Incompetent."
It's a line up there with Buzz's: "Kevin, you're such a disease."
Home Alone - great film.

Belle & Sebastian release 25 song EP collection

Despite owning all the EPs I hadn't listened to them in ages, until I heard Dog On Wheels played recently on 6Music. I spent Tuesday evening playing them all and am once again in love with Belle & Sebastian. Bit of class.

Truck is 8! Biffy! Patrick Wolf! Magic Numbers! +m

Woo-hoo! Just booked my ticket. Only decided to go this morning, but decided to act fast so not to miss out. I've never been before, but I'm definitely having me one of that vicar's ice-creams!
It sounds cracking, so let's hope the weather is good.

Re: Beck - E-Pro

Sea Change was pure class. Round The Bend is superb. It's such a huge contrast to anything you'd normally associate Beck with from his Odelay/Midnight Vultures style. A bit of class.

Distophia: New single and tour dates

Ah, The Albert in Shrewsbury. Just over the road from my office and the legendary venue which rather unwittingly welcomed Pete Doherty to play on his ramshackle acoustic tour, only for the whole thing to go rather belly up when the barrier (about a strong as paper) broke at the front.
I believe the immortal words of 'Batman' who was on the door that night were "Get the fuck out of my function room!" before trying to clear the room.
You wouldn't get that at Brixton Academy.

Get outside, get closer: Hood tour

The Flapper and Firkin gig in Birmingham will also feature the superb Epic 45. Worth the admission alone. Marvellous news, and as the kids would say: "Get in you little beauty."

Mars Volta add to final Frusciante solo release

I like it too. I like James Iha's hair as well. Or I used to in about 1996. I haven't seen it recently. Not that I'm shallow or anything.

Tip for 2005: Jeniferever bring their beautiful Sw

Get your ears round Souvaris and Epic 45. Both a bit of class. Also The Workhouse.

Bloc Party

Saw them at Central Station in Wrexham. Absolutely superb, and seemingly really top blokes as well. Despite a number of buffoons invading the stage and clattering into the band members mid-song, they seemed to take it with a pinch of salt and just carried on doing what they do so well...playing infectious tunes of the top order.
Can't wait for the album. I'm sure it'll be a corker.

Pete Doherty: The Shambolic Waster

What the hell is all this "I wouldn't wanna be Dom right now" business about?
How pathetic is that? Why wouldn't you want to be him? Is the Melon dude going to get his Dad to beat him up? Is he going to reply with such a vicious tongue it causes fatal lacerations?

Please, just accept that nobody will ever agree about articles like this. There are those that love Pete, there are those that hate him and there are those, like myself, who aren't really bothered either way and are more concerned with listening to the new Six By Seven album.

Everyone is of course welcome to their own opinions and musical debate is a great thing that keeps sites such as Drowned In Sound ticking. But please, lets keep this in check.

This is a website. The people who write here do so of their own free will. You are not paying to read these articles. If you don't like what you have read, then maybe make your point and then agree to disagree. Don't lower yourself to the point where you are making idle threats of 'I wouldn't want to be you right now.'
You are only showing yourself up for being a little bit silly.

We all love music, we wouldn't be here if we didn't. Keep on truckin.

Interpol - Antics

They were playing it in Rounder Records in Brighton last week and it sounded fantastic. It's moved on from the first album, but still recognisably Interpol.

Johnny Boy - You Are The Generation That Bought Mo

For me it's the best single released so far this year. I can't see it being bettered to be honest.

The Telescopes - Altered Perception

Wow, I'll have to make a swift purchase of that. Any idea if they have a new album coming out mate, or if they're going to play any live dates in the next few months?
How's tricks anyway, hope all's well.

DiS Summer 'Brave New Ideas' UK Tour - Coming To Y

I'll be at the Little Civic gig in Wolverhampton. Having not heard anything by Redjetson I really wanna see them if the Six By Seven/Mogwai/Joy Divison/Radiohead comparisons are anything to go by. Looking forward to seeing Exploits of Elaine too as I've heard nothing but good things about those Telford lads.

Re: The Libertines - The Libertines

Since when do you have to have listened to a certain amount of music before you can be deemed worthy enough to write reviews?
Do you have to own a copy of Chas and Dave's greatest hits, supplemented by a warehouse full of Latvian techno records released circa 93-95?
At the end of the day, a review is someone's opinion on whether they like or dislike a record.
It is not a brief history of popular music.

Re: Ikara Colt - “People are afraid of failing and

I saw them at Reading and they ruled. Fair play. No more needs saying.

Re: Various - On The Buzzes

I remember the bassist in Baxxter joined Twist, literally seconds before they seemed to disappear.
Saw them at Rock City, then that was it...vamoosh.
They were pretty rockin on that occasion I seem to recall.

X Factor - xxxx off!?

Wasn't Lee and Bombhead's band called X-Factor in Hollyoaks? I suspect they would be better as well.

Re: Take A Free Trip To The Clinic

Bloody hell, moaning about no London date. You want to try living in Shropshire mate.
