Am I the only one

That finds the music this year to be wildly disappointing? Aside from from Grizzly Bear and AC, of course.

This album will be considered a classic years from now.

It's amazing, but too much to digest right now. It will sink in eventually.

I don't understand the Minus The Bear reference.

This band sounds like every other post-emo band to emerge after 1994 - only half as good.

I don't think I'll ever be able to get on the Antony bandwagon.

Yeah, his voice is interesting, but ugh...

I felt like I was playing NES while listening to this EP.

And that's not a bad thing.

You have no idea

how happy I am that Hercules and The Shit Affair aren't on this list.

You have no idea

10/10

Album of the motherfuckin' year.

Great stuff.

It's like the Caribbean version of Panda Bear.

Hmm

Mike, do you really think any of your readers are interested in Avenged Sevenfold?

Just sayin'...

.

I'm so sick of this neo-disco-techno-whatever shit coming out of New York.

Enough already.

.

I don't get Subtle, and I doubt I ever will.

I can't wait

for this band to release a full length.

Eh

"Juturna" is light years ahead of this album. "OLG" is too poppy, structured and produced. It's better than 99% of the stuff in their genre, but their debut will probably always be their masterpiece.

AG

I'm personally looking forward to Anthony Green's solo album. I've heard a few tracks and I think the album is going to impress fans and non-fans alike.

Good stuff.

Fleet Foxes and Wild Beasts have my vote for this months best. Johnny Foreigner is decent, but is getting a lot more praise than I think they deserve.

What the list should look like...

In no particular order:

M83 - Kim and Jessie
The Black Angels - You On The Run
Bon Iver - Skinny Love
The Mae Shi - Run To Your Grave
Man Man - Top Drawer
Youthmovies - The Naughtiest Girl Is A Monitor
Vampire Weekend - A-Punk
Earth - Omens & Portents I: The Driver
Islands - The Arm
Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal
Foals - Balloons
The Dodos - Fools
Elbow - The Bones Of You
Wild Beasts - The Devil's Crayon
Atlas Sound - Recent Bedroom
Frightened Rabbit - The Modern Leper
Cut Copy - Unforgettable Season
Ruby Suns - Tane Mahuta
No Age - Eraser
Why? - Song Of The Sad Assassin
MGMT - Weekend Wars
I Was A Cub Scout - Echoes
Sigur Ros - Gobldigook
Torche - Grenades
Feeder - We Are The People
Russian Circles - Youngblood
Silver Jews - Suffering Jukebox
The Notwist - Where In This World
Portishead - Small
Subtle - The Crow
Sun Kil Moon - Heron Blue
Autechre - plyPhon
Hercules & The Love Affair - You Belong
Wolf Parade - Language City

I'm too tired to keep going..

Easy.

Because in 2004 they formed and decided to jump on the Fueled By Ramen/Fall Out Boy bandwagon to make a quick buck. And they did, because pre-teen girls were gobbling that garbage up. Can they play their instruments? Sure. Can the singer sing? He's ok. Doesn't make them any less awful for lacking any artistic backbone. And now DiS and other ridiculous, snobby webzines are hopping on PAtD bandwagon because it's (to them) ironic and tongue-in-cheek humor, when all it does is actually hurt the image of the website. It's just like Pitchfork praising shitty rappers all the time.

...

I have no problem with mainstream music, as long as it's good. Panic at the Disco are awful and the new Death Cab is probably the worst stuff they've ever released, minus ONE song. It's like they spent almost a year writing "I Will Possess Your Heart" then sloppily threw together the rest of the tracks within a few months.

And Lil' Wayne is the most overrated, overhyped rapper to ever exist. Period. Cadence Weapon is LIGHT YEARS ahead of Lil' Wayne.

And who honestly decided Weezer and Death Cab should be on this list, but no Bon Iver, no Fleet Foxes, no Youthmovies, no Islands, etc.

And stop with the Johnny Foreigner hype. It's like listening to a sped-up Bloc Party album.

Ugh

Stop with the Panic At The Disco nonsense. You wish that The Shins were as epic as them? What the hell is DiS turning into? Next we'll be seeing Lil' Wayne as the album of the year.

In no order

Islands
Bon Iver
Frightened Rabbit
The Mae-Shi
M83
Foals
Youthmovies
No Age
I Was A Cub Scout
Black Angels
This Will Destroy You
Cut Copy
Atlas Sound
Johnny Foreigner
Pyramids
Sigur Ros
Destroyer
Twilight Sad (EP)
Man Man
Beach House

I'm calling it

Most underrated album of '08.

9/10

"The Arm" is such a wonderful song.

They broke up.

Thank god.

Haha.

Howard Stern plays these guys every time JD comes into the studio as his theme song. They ripped on this band for awhile a couple weeks ago.

10/10

This and Bon Iver are the only albums to really impress the hell out of me so far. This album is particularly wonderful.

WTF

4/10 for these guys.

8/10 for Panic At The Disco.

What's going on, DiS?

Unfortunate.

I personally like this album, but the problem with MMJ is that they released (arguably) their magnum opus "Z" early in their career, and they probably won't ever top it. It's why guys like Jeff Mangum quit while they were ahead. With all the hype, I did expect the album to catch me much faster than it did, but after a few listens it does start to grow.

Easy

Bon fuckin' Iver.

Probably the best album I've heard since NMH's "Aeroplane."

Bleh.

The music is great, until he ruins it with his awful vocals.

Speechless.

My God, there are no words to describe this album. "Skinny Love" is one of the most incredible songs I've heard in a long time. I really suggest you see this man live.

This...

1. Paranoid Android
2. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi
3. Punch Up At A Wedding
4. Idioteque
5. Knives Out
6. Pyramid Song
7. 15 Steps
8. Exit Music (For A Film)
9. There There
10. No Surprises
12. Creep
13. I Might Be Wrong
14. Videotape
15. Karma Police

...

Ugh, this shit is AWFUL.

Ahem...

Dear every blogger and so-called counter-culture indie review site,

Please stop overrating Foals and Klaxons.

Thanks!

9/10

Very hard album to listen to, when you consider most of the album comes from disembodied voices through an old Ouija board from Jerusalem. It's hard not to feel that the dreaded Goliath is just inches behind you while listening to "Tourniquet Man," ready to take you away to his abyss. Beyond the disconcerting occult overtones, though, lies a brilliant piece of music.

Mmm. Good stuff.

"Bushels" is one of the best songs of the years.

:(

Am I the only person that voted for Menomena?

:(

No.

There'z nothing to "get" about this band or this album. It's pure shit, through and through. Stop overrating it.

Sigh.

Oh look. It's the most overrated douche of the year.

Oh man..

Battles sucks. LCD Soundsystem are horribly overrated. No one cares about Jamie T.

Your top 10 albums are a joke. And the fact that Menomena is nowhere on that list is even funnier. And Andrew Bird at 33? LOL.

DiS, you're dead to me. :)

LOL.

I guarantee they'll make the LCD Sucksystem album best of the year.

Health? No Age? Does anyone really care about these albums?

Oh, and Liars are god damn awful. This is probably the worst top 20 list I've seen in my life, and it's not even over.

>O

You also forgot Kevin Drew. WTF.

hahah

LOL, this list is turning out to be a joke.

You put Animal Collective and Arcade Fire in the bottom five? And CYHSY above them? Hilarious.

And if you put Aesop Rock on this list, and EL-P doesn't appear later, you are truly out of your minds.

So good.

Album of the year, in my estimation.

....

No Menomena = no vote.

At least Yeasayer is on there.

:)

I'm glad you kept the Animal Collective album low. Shit is overrated. As far as I'm concerned, it shouldn't even be on here.

Wha...?

10/10? How fucking stoned were you when you listened to this? It's a 7. at best.

Hmm.

I really have never understood the love of this band or Wolf Parade. I find his vocals and lyrics to be incredibly annoying. Pretty mediocre stuff. I'd give it a 6/10.
