Yeah, losers, go back to your radio heads and your beard stroking
Thanks very much.
I read this to kill five minutes
and couldn't tear myself away. What an eloquent, funny sort he is. Never heard or heard of Gene but just gave Defenestration a spin, loved it and happily ordered a copy.
Always seen Ride mentioned
but never checked them.
Listening on spotify to 'leave them all behind' and loving it. Great interview!
Wonderful
to see artists taking their craft so seriously. This is a great piece.
They say this all the time
the weight of expectation on them must be a bit daunting and I bet after every release they feel lucky to have stayed consistent and just don't wanna blow it.
Give it a year.
Haha, that's how being 16 should feel
it only gets worse from here, BeautifulOne...
Great stuff
I'm new to Falco but heard Arming Eritrea on their myspace and think it's one of the best songs ever.
Can't wait to buy the album. He seems to really have the right attitude on a few fronts, hope it gets rewarded with this release.
Woah - that vid's amazing!
song's nice too.
I should add that I've never heard this album
always loved 100BW and Remote Part, but was put off this by the nasal american voice. Just listening to the preview of WIAISS though, and it's totally something I can live with. Will try and hunt down a cheap copy.
Best article on here in a good while
lovely stuff - any chance of doing the other albums?
Woah, they formed in the year of my birth, mad
when I was young Top of The Pops was on, and No DOubt's vid for 'don't speak' was being played. My sister hushed me and said in a pained, emotional way "this song...changed my life".
I've never let her forget it.
I'll certainly be listening to this
at the very least it's the most interesting news to come out of camp Manics in years!
and the thing about telling the kids their mum was dead
urban myth, no?
This review, sort of, yeah - well, kinda,
hurt my head.
*Don't forget
duhh
Jaguar Love's album is SUCH a grower!
I thought Past Lives were better, but Jag are far more fun and, of course, they have those amazing lyrics.
Also, don't remember that the BB's didn't make a classic album right off the bat. I' enjoying the stuff they're all doing now.
Yeah, it's not terrible
but I really think in this day and age there's just no excuse for average artwork. Particularly when it's a make or break record. Having said that, I suppose they want something that may look iconic etc. I don't know why I care so much - the album itself is fine, far better than the second.
^ This, sort of
Why did they choose such a terrible album cover too?
Jesus
your thumb's really on the pulse of your readership, innit?
Best review I've seen on DiS in a while
Enjoyable read!
Is this an album review or
songmeanings.net?
Rating's there
3/10
The article should have been called
Dear Chicago
Hey Ryan
I would never have heard a note of your music if it wasn't for this site. As it is, I think I own every commercially available LP with your name on it because the writers and userbase here encouraged myself and others in that direction.
I even enjoy your blog, but you clearly haven't realised that most of the writing here is with a wink and a nod.
Stop thinking the whole world's against you when it's not.
Christ this guy never stops
Unfortunately I'll almost certainly be buying this because he fascinates me. I agree, though scatterbrained, his blog contains the odd amazing idea that you can't believe he just throws away on a form like that.
Been re-listening to loadsa his stuff lately and been blown away by Jacksonville City Nights after thinking it was well 'meh'.
Easy Tiger though, the odd track aside just sounds so tired - he seems insanely revitalised at the mo, so hoping his work is too.
I would have said a 9 was too high a bit back
but it's just grown and grown on me. I can't say enough about this band, so far it's my album of the year. I'm just addicted.
Wow, that was quick
erm - hard to know what to think really. Just glad the site wasn't hurt in the nulling of the deal.
This album has just grown and grown on me
The lyrics are some of his very best, Georgia in particular is pretty heartbreaking.
I Jaguar Love it!
*kills self*
How is this loss of carling good for business?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining - I just don't understand how the festival's in the same financial position after losing its major backer?
Will it be that several beers will pay a smaller amount to be sold at the fest - and that, cumulatively, that will come to more money?
^ this
though I haven't heard the new automatic song.
This is even better than the rant itself
very funny.
Agree with the review
would probably give it a five, innofensive - but even for background music, there's much better stuff out there.
I think it might be a reconciliatory offer
to the old fans, y'know, after embarassing us all with Folding Stars, Machines, half of Puzzle and EVERY video they did for it.
That it's only as heavy as semi-mental is concerning though.
I love that cover
*I am not a bummer, liek.
"Tell me why, I don't like Mondays"...
Bang on though, Mike!
This is like a shitter version of that
Kasabian video.
And like a shitter version of every other Coldplay song.
Me too!
it's just wonderful, Hadouken on the other hand...
Frank Turner 10/10
Love, Ire & Song 5/10 at most.
Such a dissapointment, I've followed the fucker round toilet venues for years and years, and sleep is for the week is a fine debut but this kills me. One thing that really grates is that, live, the shouting is cool and impassioned - on record though it sounds horrible. Sing Frank.
Then there's the songs. I enjoyed the little self referential bits before, but it's becomming clear that all he has to say is "I am Frank Turner". Rather than show us things over the course of an album, he bludgeoningly TELLS. And not much of it is interesting or clever or funny either.
I hope he does well, but next time writes songs rather than, what come off to me as, songs about songs.
