Dodging the Bullet...
These Disband interviews are interesting, but only for the continuing message board saga as to whether this feature represents professional journalism or not.
Dis came in for a LOT of flack after The Hives interview but they're sticking with it for now.
I guess the lesson is to stick with easy targets like The Subways and BFMV. Personally, I thought that it started off really well with the Hadouken piece but has gradually gone down hill because a lot of the artists haven't been able to defend themselves well. If they don't, it just looks snidey.
Truly terrible
Since its free and local and all that, I thought it might be worth going along - I've never paid any attention before but isn't there usually someone worth seeing as long as you don't have to pay anything?
what's even worse is that I have to listen to people at work talking about 'the quality lineup'. One guy is particularly excited about seeing Newton Faulkner. They look at me with perplexed expressions when I tell them I'll give it a miss.
The best collection
of song titles ever...
Yeah, I sympathise
Cracking into the music industry is so hard and few bands would turn down the opportunity for television exposure.
Mobile Act Unsigned was a massive barrel of cock but they were the only band to stand out as half-decent from what I saw.
Unprovoked attacks
happen every day, across the country and the violence is not sparked by anything that rational, sensible people can easily explain (my own story revolves around refusing to give out cigarettes in the park).
This story is very sad but reducing it down to such a black and white discussion is best left for the Daily Mail and represents a cringing faux-sympathy for the victims.
If anything I would say that alternative ways of dressing are being absorbed by the mainstream and are much more acceptable than when I was growing up.
There are just a lot of young and angry people in our society. Would the victims have been attacked if they had been dressed normally? Possibly not. Would these kids have found an excuse to beat up other innocent people? Almost certainly.
Crystal Castles
So what is the official deal with Courtship Dating vs AYO Technology? Did Timberland sample it cos it is exactly the same no?
Bollox
So basically BYOP are critic-proof because they make songs that sound like they were made by 12-year olds? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
waste of time
I REALLY don't think that this band deserve the effort that went into this review.
Victims of the hype machine?
I think that Foals have been really unfortunate to have been given the 2008 mantel as meteoric rising superstars. They don't seem like a band who have necessarily courted it but reviews, even on decent websites like this, analyse 'their progression into the grand arenas'.
They haven't even released their debut album yet! It sounds to me like they rocked their limited set as best they could. What do people want from them?
Let's hope they can weather this shitstorm and come out the other side because I think they've got talent and they'll implode if their forced to be something that their not.
The Saxondale Syndrom
Yeah, does it make me ageist that I couldn't take them seriously while the Dad was in the band but now I might actually check them out?
I'm sorry, but being in a rock band with your Dad is fucking weird. Did he jump or was he pushed?
Agree with Transmission that theres the smell of a makeover.
Ah catch'em in my mouth!
I've always struggled with From Her to Eternity besides the title track. Maybe I should give it another go.
That track is amazing, although unbelievably disturbing.
You really wouldn't have wanted to be Nick Cave;s neighbour in those days would you?
Legend
Yeah, I've been getting back into Nick Cave before Lazarus comes out and just reminding myself of just how fucking amazing his back-catalogue is.
Totally agree about "Your funeral" being great and 'The Carny' might just be the most batshit crazy song ever recorded.
I think that Lazarus sounds pretty good on the first few listens - might be his least unconventional since 'Let Love In', which can only be a good thing.
So, the backlash begins before the records even out...
I think that Foals are quite a unique and progressive band to be hyped up by the mainstream the way they have.
Sure, they have pop elements in their sound but they stick out like a sore thumb when played on daytime Radio 1, whereas other bands (Klaxons, Bloc Party) just gradually merge in with the rest of the detritus.
I actually really like them and think that they may be a rare band to survive this press wankfest. And I'm not sure they'll sell as many records as the NME would have you believe.

It is bad...
...theres no denying it but there is just enough quality to fill each day:
Foals,
Dizzee Rascal
Vampire weekend
Holy Fuck
Battles (praise the fucking lord for Battles!)
Squarepusher
Crystal Castles
Spiritualized
The National
I couldn't ask for a better Sunday lineup than Spiritualized followed by The National. That will ease my comedown no end.
