I have to say

I'm finding this album extremely banal.

I only mentioned them because of the constant comparisons

especially from people who've been praising WL.

sterile

The whole point of joy division's sound was the tension in it. This album has none. It's dead music.

y'know

their sparser moments I quite like, and they have some really nice basslines. A bit of andy gill guitar as well

I just think they should tone down the keyboards a bit on occasion - they swamp their sound sometimes.

They can do it. Just needs a little work here and there.

Present the Paisley Reich

Is better. Good album though.

let's face it

they really don't do anything too interesting at all. Really have never got why people like them either.

But it's all opinion as ever.

^

Agree with this.

can't

we have a news blackout or something. (Note to self: not helping)

I'm disappointed

with the level of domesticity displayed here. I mean, caring about your garden fence...?

^

wah wuh wuh wuh wuh wut?

^

Agreed, that was a great song, and I normally hate this kind of thing intensely. Also, '57' by Biffy Clyro.

Hate everything both have done since though...

raw?

>"they've stripped their sound down to its >barest, rawest form. The result is their >leanest collection of songs yet"

I would argue the exact opposite - they've polished their sound till it gleams, compared to the previous two albums. I don't really appreciate this, as it was their utter rawness (on record at least) that drew me to them in the first place.

There is no song on this that makes me want to shout or bounce around the room or fuck, while Keep on your Mean Side was full of them.

.

I don't know, I loved the first album, thought the second one was good but not as good. Enjoyed seeing them live a *lot* of times as well.

Problem is, I've only heard the one single off of this one and I really, really hated it - a lot.

presses apathy buttone

of course, you have to shell out for accommodation...

voice

should have been in '*' as well...

?

I would like to eat bjork. OK?

Dogs

hm. I shouldn't like them at all but do a little bit, mainly cause 'London Bridge' has a bit of a connection with memories...

Kalev

I like kalev a lot. The first time I saw them they blew me away like no-one else has this year. And the rapture? they're far, far more complex, layered and darker.

I Predict a Re-release

And next week, kasabian release LSF for the, er, 5th time?

Re: London: Advice on events

i'm told dollyrockers IS going ahead as planned...

London: Advice on events

anyone know the status for 1234 records party, dave's birthday at the six string or the dollyrockers thing in lewisham?

Re: London Bomb Blasts

i'll bet you did...

i wasn't in london, fortunately. Used to live a ouple of minutes from liv st/aldgate east, what fun that would've been today.

Still have one more person to account for who i think was in the area, and maybe a couple of other possibles.

Re: DiS Summer Weekender: FROM TOMORROW!

hm
turn up early or attempt to blag and write up?

The Independent pick top 10 venues - what're yours?

Ica, 100 Club, Buffalo Bars, Garage for London...

YOU'RE IN NATION: The Scene With No Nothing

look back on it and tell me you don't miss it...

now what do we have? Bloc Party? Maximo Park? Pah.

give me 2002.... please.

Various - Rough Trade Shops: Counter Culture 2004

do me bad things and 'exhilarating' in the same sentence?

Now *that* really does make me want to kill myself.

Do Me Bad Things hit FROG then do Tour

they are FUCKING SHIT.

Ikara Colt - Modern Feeling

true, so true, the first album was one of the best of the decade so far.

Special Needs

sir, i urge you to see them again and reconsider.

Re: Cove to rock Rough Trade

ello...

DiS invites you down the pub!

anything, ANYTHING but carling...

hang on, i don't drink anymore, yay!!!!!!!!!!

YYYs: one-off show and DVD

maps is one of my less favourite songs of theirs for some reason; i still love the first EP

Re: Interpol - Antics - Love, and time?

wow... a thought out post

i'm astonished. i think i'll stick to trying to decode inanity myself.

Polysics - Polysics Or Die!!!!

Pol-y-sics - Top of the pops!

Re: Interpol - Antics

i didn't think the lyrics for totbl were *that* bad... oh, i dunno, i haven't heard the new one yet.

Polysics - Polysics Or Die!!!!

YAY!

Rap with a capital C: 50 Cent gets bottled off

the subways? :S

i dunno, maybe they just played badly when i saw them...

Re: MC5. London Barfly. Friday. Yes.

i think 'tributes' wasn't quite the right word - and the metro riots are pretty good live...

Re: Joyfest 2004: Day 1

Special Needs, Top of the Pops!
Crash Convention, Top of the Pops!
The Rocks, Top of the Pops!
Art Brut, Top of the Pops!

:P

Re: Cove to rock Rough Trade

WOO! Tunbridge Wells scene gets a mention! Unlabel gets a mention!

Mclusky

Maybe - but i still don't rate the new album...

Johnny Boy - You Are The Generation That Bought More Shoes And You Get What You Deserve

I still stand by the comment i made with regard to their last single - only i have heard this one, and it's just as bad as they were live, if that's possible.

Re: Muse's Glasto single for Oxfam

hell, i still don't think they've done anything to match the best bits of Showbiz...

Re: Art Brut - Rip Off Your Labels: More Angular Produ

one error - james, not sarah does vocals on that rocks track :P

Re: Muse - Sing For Absolution

showbiz does NOT sound radiohead-ish. That was the standard lazy critic's comparison at the time. All albums are patchy, yes, but Muscle museum has to be their best song by a way.....

Re: Seachange - Lay of the Land

erm... but lapsus linguae are feckin' awful....

Muse - Sing For Absolution

oh, come on, this is getting ridiculous. Showbiz was much better.

Re: Doherty Ditches Drug Rehab

it's a fuckin' publicity stunt, innit?
