Never been a fan of their albums
loved the odd single here and there but my golly miss molly has this album hit the spot! A bit long though..... I can't help but think that if this was only 12 tracks long it'd be one of the best pop rock records in recent memory.
Unfocused is my first thought on this album
people seem to be going down hard on people that aren't liking this album claiming it's too avant-garde for them. Whilst not a bad album the lack of focus and self editing really hurts it and at this point I would struggle to give it more then a 6/10. I like ambient music but have no idea why they decided to put a 20minute ambient piece in the middle of an 80minute album other then to troll a large majority of their fan base.
Ah he appears to be a huge fan of The XX
explains a lot if you consider them to be a high point in the British music scene
This album is great
stop being such a grumpy goose
Cool story bro
so what does this album sound like?
I'm pleasently surprised
I agree, Valentines Day doesn't reach the heights it aims for, it sounds kind of flat... think it's the vocal performance more then anything as the guitar riff is solid enough. When the album is good it's pretty damn good 'Dirty Boys' and 'Boss Of Me' for example are the sort of sounds I want from Bowie.
This album left me very underwhelmed after that fantastic single
didn't care much for their debut but thought the single was an indicator of some great straight up rock tunes, we did get that to an extent, but leaning on the side of blah.
I'll refine your Melt Banana review
it was fun, lots of fun in fact & the most pit was pretty brutal
Neighbourhood Watch is a magical song
up there with his best, shame the rest of the album doesn't quite live up to it
Yeah, this album is really wank
I was surprised how bad it was! I love Pinback :(
The production kills this album for me
could've been such a good album but the production just holds it back so much. I haven't heard such awful sounding percussion in a very long time
I can really go with the whole '10/10 because it#s the best XX album that can possibly exist' theory because it's right
this album is everything I expect from an XX album in that it's perfectly mediocre
Such a disappointing album
lots of 'stylistic' pop and not nearly enough of of what made his first 2 albums so strong.
Brilliant album
discounting Crazy Beat which is kind of painful
This is better then 'All Is Falling' which felt a bit limp and didn't stand up at all to repeat listens
but it isn't quite as good as 'The Glass Bead Game' which is just magnificent, still a mighty fine record.
Read this review, listened & enjoyed
really interesting (yet totally familiar and approachable) sound. I like bands that have an experimental edge to them but are totally rooted in pop.
If this wasn't GBV I'm sure all of these albums would be racking up below average reviews
I think they have been really piss poor this year
Hot Chip will be remembered as one of the great british pop acts from this generation
the is simply no denying that
A very well written blog post
cannot possibly take this review seriously though because it's clear the critic was already ready to propose to this album the moment it was announced
FOE should've been put in a bigger venue
luckily being a local knowing that a gig in LIFE meant the stage will be bigger then the floor of which to stand I got there nice and early and managed to get to the front and was not disappointed. I danced my ass off at that gig, very enjoyable.
The Haunt is now my fav venue in Brighton
it's not great for clubbing but for live music it's brilliant, the sound has never been short of remarkable for every show I've been to.
Never been much of a fan of the cribs
but this is one incredibly solid, dare I say great indie rock record
Faraway Lightning totally worth the release of this album alone
but unfortunately it's yet another I wont fall in love with from Krugg :(
This album is so much fun
I really hope it doesn't go totally unnoticed
Woah dude chill the fuck out
go outside on a sunny day and breath in some fresh air and get some perspective on life, yeah this album is a bit bland bar a couple of tracks but it's nothing to get angry about.. I have heard far worse.
Lonesome Crowded West needs to be on this list
for teeth like God's shoeshine alone :)
Yes, riffage!
I like this album, quite a lot actually
Yeah, when I think Soap&Skin I immediatly thing Adele
then I realise that it wasn't Adele I was thinking of because she does overblown pop piano ballads whereas these lean on the more chaotic and experimental side of things and are quite modest?
This review confuses me a great deal, it says shes the next Adele but isn't and ummm ya
Never heard of this band before
really liking what I'm hearing, synth pop with bite! Me likes
Bar 3 or 4 songs it really goes in the motions for me
I think it far too often sounds like a parody of Sleigh Bells and often sounds muddy, weak songs + weak production in places really drags the album back from the dizzying heights set by Come Back Kid and You Lost Me
I got a Vita and 5 games for under £400
The most fun I have is playing the more mobile friendly games such as Lumnies (which took away 2hours in my first session) & Virtual Tennis 4 (it's like a board game with Tennis and random encounters with other players!) Uncharted is fine n all but I can't be arsed with it on such a small system
This is much better then the debut
which I thought was good but a bit too alienating (didn't like the production) this however is a kick in the balls level of emotion, tears streaming down my face uncontrollably with lovely hooks and melodies RECOMMEND
If this album was cut short by 2 songs it'd be a classic
but as such it's an album thats great in 2 separate listens and a bore in one long listen... it's that tempo, it shouldn't be maintained for 50minutes!
Sounds good
simply cannot wait to hear this album, Hadestown is a modern masterpiece
Listening to this album for the first time
it's really nice and well recorded... my ears like this a lot!
Can you please report when Green Door Store finally stops soundling like a mobile phone
because it's ruining what should be an awesome venue!
The world needs more Rayman Origins love
seriously that game is beautiful and devishly fun
I got a sneaky suspicion that the artists might be quite unhappy about this
but if the labels aren't getting anything from it then I see no reason why they should keep their music up on the service. But it may discourage bands from signing up the labels as their music won't be as freely available, thus hindering their chances of getting mass exposure.
I've listened to that very album 3 times
it wasn't a masterpiece... it was kind of just above par.
I'm disappointed on how fatiguing this sounds on headphones
:(
Nice music though
