good review
pretty much what i thought..
never have a i applauded an artist so much for sticking to his own sound and not being tempted by developing trends everywhere else in the scene. As you say, has a very OK cowboy feel but more up to date, its got vitalic written all over it, and still sounds fresh as a daisy, which is just what the doctor ordered!
pretty disappointed
but not really surprised. I totally respect and admire their desire to experiment and evlove even more, but ultimately i just dont like what they have turned into. shame. but once again, fair play to them. they brilliant at what they do. Having said all that there are still some nice moments in the album which remind me of how much i love(d) them. The riff in Unnatural slection is great, there are flits of wonderful instrumentation in the typical Bellamy style, and the grandure and size of their sound will never cease to impress... And then there's Undisclosed Desires. wtf? perhaps i should give it more time..
oh id probaly give it
a rounded up 7, too. its good, but the man is capable of more, this should have been an 8 or 9 at least
I am a little disappointed with this..
I am a big fan of the Slave, and have been since i first got into the the more house and techno side of electronic music, however i feel a little let down that he seems to be joining in all too readily with the percussive latin influenced house scene of the moment. Now dont get me wrong i have been on this bandwagon the last year and labels like cadenza, cecille and (to a certain extent) vakant, but particularly the former, have been some of the most popular and have only added to the more recent proliferation of the this style of music. But i didnt ever really consider Radioslave to be part of this movement as such.
I have always revered his original style; his own productions, remixes and rekids releases are instantly recognisable and continually solid (take the latest no sleep series for example)and in the past his mixes have reflected his own style and vision really well. His essential mix from 2006 was and still is one of the best mixes i've ever heard, a few other live mixes from the past couple of years have also been good, but this just feels a bit to easy. Sure, there are some great tunes to be heard - 'i dont need a cure for this' (i actually almost feel the opposite to you with regards this track), 'balada radio' and the lawler koma koma remix stand out, but on the whole the mix doesnt grab you and suck you in for the duration like i hoped it might do..
I will of course happily listen to it several more times with enjoyment, but perhaps during some of those listens i will pretend that it is someone else at the helm and it will make me feel more satisfied, becuase knowing that it is Radioslave's long awaited fabric mix will not.
that's my two penneth anyway!
A million dead track wouldn't go a miss
I vote murder and create
i saw them do it in leeds a couple of months ago
and it was awesome.. might have to go again!
nice one
havent heard the new CRebels release yet, will have to get on it!
nice to see somafay too, Archipel is one of the most interesting and diverse labels out there, some really great stuff on it, glad to see it getting a mention.. and somfay did that half hour tune on the same label right? i cant remember what it was called! it was great.
I love minilogue a bit too much i think. The 'Animals' videe is my favourite i think (and it's just a downright tune) its so funny.
kudos to this column
how is chi doing these days?
anyone?
so iv been out of the loop on this one..
is there a dance music column now? has there been an armchair dancefloor 1 and 2??
good call on the rekids comp though. shout outs to the slam paragraph mix of bell clap dance and the wink mix of screaming hands, which still sounds fresh as a daisy if you ask me
wow
didnt see that one coming. not that i'm not a fan of the M83 record because i certainly am. No Acorn though. disappointed with that. Still havent worked out the appeal of frightened rabbit either. overall quite suprised
Why are there so few mentions of the Acorn??
My top Five
1//Minilogue - Animals
2//The Acorn - Glory Hope Mountain
3//Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
4//Vessels - White Fields and Open Devices
5//Foals - Antidotes
see iv only really known about this band for a year or so
and for me this a lot easier to get at than friend opportunity -which is just a bit too wacky. that basketball song is ridiculous but jagged fruit is just awesome, and i like Mr purple past too. lots of good stuff on it.
hmm. interesting
i can see where you're coming from. but its still pretty good for what it is.. songs like dog and rabbit (my two favourite) make this higher than a five i think..
my only concern is where can this band really go from here? its pretty much just more of the same since their e.p. dont get me wrong i really like it, but i think the 'incessant noodling' will start to grate as i listen more and more.
its a shame there arnt more moments like zebra to break it up a bit. still. a damn good listen and a band i definately want to see, if not just to witness all the noodling first hand.
i think the point he is making is that if one doesnt need the money (like he)
then it's just great to get your music out there for people to hear and potentially enjoy.
i think also theres something to be said for the potential of an artist to be realised by the initial free distribution of their work. if enough people like it then surely they will ultimately be up for paying even a small amount for more.
however it would be good to hear from someone/a band whos potential has been severely limited by the fileshare/download generation
damn right.
its all about being heard. if you're not being heard then you haven't a hope of being successful, and even if you're not, the chances are someone thousands of miles away could well be loving every minute of your music.. which frankly still makes it worthwhile
yes, for others to donwload on mass - i agree. i dont understand why the blog contributors aren't the ones to target here
but uploading for a friend is the same as lending them a cd isnt it.
also this isnt a fair poll
i bet a lot of people will be keeping their mouths shut for fear of going down in other's estimations..
well
1. no, i host alot of files for friends and vice verca, using rapidshare, zshare etc, i also download off blogs if im part5icularly interested to hear something. i do use itunes and beatport too though. i never use p2p though.
2. i dont know, i guess it would depend on how the letter was worded.. i think it would make me think, yes. but the thing is, especially for those who use hosting services, its difficult to find the line of legality. i could host something which i bought and consent to a friend downloading it, i wouldnt stop doing that, but its basically the same thing as getting something from a blog? isnt it? so i dont know really.
love the album cover
not too sure on the album yet.. needs a few more listens. some outrageously good bass though - obviously
oh man sorry about that
before it kept saying 'you must be staff to post here' or something. whoops!
good call on the gigs section
v good call
two years? pfff no way
i remember always thinking that the tweeters in the speakers were eyes of a little creature.
no way!
folk death? g mega snake? both tunes too!
if you remixed 'nude' then you get the stems free this time
:) much better stems to play around with in reckoner too.
totally agree on the sun smells too loud
that riff is just weird. i think you scored it about right. somewhere between 6 and 7 for me. one of my favourite bands of all time, and probably the biggest influence on my musical forays, but i think think their peak was reached a while ago.
having said all that, i think 'im jim morrison, im dead' is a brilliant tune. definately my favourite.
good one
cant really argue with that.. the second half of DLZ my favourite bit at the mo.. but like a brilliant record should - my favourite bit changes a lot!
thoughts to the families
travis was a huge idol when i took up the drums.. absolutely amazing.. get well soon old bean
wessles:
'they're maybe not forceful enough to enter the Mogwai league'
well on the basis of their opener that day - altered beast - yes they certainly are! that was awesome, it actually sounds bigger live than on the record i think. great performace.
planisphre is TERRIBLE
planisphere is ok.. pretty standard
huge shame
many many a good night has been spent at the end. erol nights in particular. a sad loss - all the clubs are closing!
fabric are setting up a new on in the o2 though so that should be welcome. hopefully.
ditto to jump in the pool
great track. i was pleasantly suprised at the quality of the whole album, but i fear im getting less enthusiastic about it the more i listen to it.
i am very intrigued.
indeed
definatley an honourable mention t efterklang
especially as the rain was particularly tiresome at that point
got this in the post today..
quite enjoyed what i heard, good to see erotic discourse and spastik in there, absolute classics back in the day! though questionable putting them so close together in the mix i thought.
too right.
shame thats never gonna get reviewed on here! we should get a little month in techno article like they do on p4k. me you and worriers. done.

Its like this.
If this was produced as well as the first album, it would be freekin' awesome, because the songs and dynamics are better on the follow up.
