Numbers
It's an eight bordering on a nine but it's not 'Silent Alarm' good? Are you still using relative scoring here, where all music is being rated out of the same '10'? So, I take it, Silent Alarm was a 10/10; an album so good there was no way to top it?

Acolytes
Your zealotism about Bloc Party is scary, man. You don't agree with someone's opinion, fair enough but seriously, to question the man's ability to write is a little angsty.
The review accounts for itself well and while, in my view, the objective points sounds more like those of a 6/10 album Each To His Own, Eh?.
Asking Mike Driver to come back won't automatically make Intimacy a 9/10 record.
_
Initialism?
Yeah, seriously, they are. They're ace. Comparing them to Ting Tings is fevered bollocks. Which is a shame cuz the other bad reviews on here are entertaining.
_
They Hated Models
Neils Children were the proto-Horrors but now they're MOR indie jank. Really disappointing washout of potential, there.

Harr
There advert is of a picture of an old lady.
Wasn't No Limit Master P's label?
_
Pablo Dummy
Yeah, I'm a card.
OK Computer > The Bends > Antidotes > the other Radiohead albums > Kid A >= Pablo H.
Mathletics.

Nah, I don't think they're more interesting than many bands with the same level of success as them - at least, I'd be curious who you were making that comparison with. However, I'm all for a CC remix. If they lived on a remix act that'd suit me down to the ground.
Anyhoo, off to download that remix now, then.
Weird to see Colder crop up again after all these years. Is he releasing a new album or something?
_
R U OK?
This fit disturbed me a little.

Lost An Eye
You've been talking about a new site design and Facebooky style interaction for a bit now - does this mean you aren't gonna fix the footer for IE7 users? It's really quite a mess down there.
Much as I was one of the 'compromised editorial' crowd I still hope nobody had to die cuz of the BSkyB retraction.
_
Flip
Seconded and a half. This seems to be a pervading trend on MySpace as well. Well annoying.

Split infinitive!
Right?

CLarrrkK! Love
If you're gonna put stuff at the bottom of the screen on a 'from the archives' tip it'd be nice to know the date of them. I'm assuming it was last year but I was asleep for all of last year so missed a whole bunch of releases (I completely didn't realise he had a new album out this year - sucks to be me, eh).
Anyway, this answer makes me love him, even if I thought Body Riddle was a little disappointing*;
"Doing a good remix is really satisfying, although it can totally distract me from my own material. It’s a conundrum – and I shouldn’t say this, but it is pretty honest – because you want to make a good remix, but if it becomes too good you want it for yourself, so you end up taking all the parts that aren’t yours out and making it into your own track. That does happen, sometimes, and then I don’t do the remix; I also just knock some out, sometimes. You do need the cash in your pocket."
* I say a little disappointing, I actually mean very disappointing but that sounds harsh. It's not so harsh, though, because Empty The Bones is, like, one of my all time favourite albums and..
Oh my gosh, who am I talking to?
_
This?
I agree with 'Not this' but don't know how do say it.
Anyway, I think the first album's great. Not perfect but then no everyone is gonna make Pablo Honey straight out the blocks.
I'm a bit disappointed if there's a special edition with the 'singles wot werent on the album' out, though. Why can't singles just be stand alone anymore? See, this is why we can't have nice things..
_
Misworded?
Maybe that would've made more sense written:
"There current songs are songs that take a while to get over the crushing disappointment of but all I want is a song that you listen to and don't have to see past a myriad of flaws to get any enjoyment from, much as you could with Banquet."

Should Read:
"regulars to this site probably/generally have relatively broad taste in music."
Assumptions, ass, me, you, etc.

Audience Figures
The compliment given to Bloc Party for breaking free the shackles seems to ignore the fact that regulars to this site have relatively broad taste in music. Those here that pine for a return to Helicopter most likely do so because Bloc Party have failed to make good on early promise with increasingly grasping attempts to make pure dance music.
The undertone of the review seems to be that people won't like this song because they're set in their indie rock mentality. Which may be true of the faceless, stereotyped masses. The readership here, however, probably don't think blowing the minds of limited indie kids is a good enough reason to turn from a fantastic guitar band into a deeply mediocre, plodding electro act.
Still, it seems a lukewarm review and it does look like a reasonably uninspiring set of singles so maybe it's not as patronising as the often used "might alienate their existing fans" review approach usually is.

Quoooiiiii!
This keeps being bumped but Mystery Jets are still on here. Quelle?

It's Okay
I think they're still alive.

Picking
Ach. I really enjoyed this article, well written, easy to read etc etc.
It did. A tiny bit. Feel like it was written by someone who still doesn't think dance music is quite as relevant as guitar music. A tiny bit.
However, mostly, that opening paragraph seemed to miss nu rave (esp. the dance side of it) completely. 2008 is the levelling off of the sirens and exposed brickwork re-revolution, surely. 2006, 2007 saw nascent Prodigy references.
Well. Either that or I missed the point you were making in that opening paragraph. Which, to be honest, I genuinely feel I have done.
Either way, minor points both (mostly me being defensive); ultimately, enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would.

Argh!
Tunng at the same time as eat as many carrots as you can! That's just cruel.

EffEffEss
Foals, Simian Mobile Disco and Benga all at the same time? Fuck sake.

Understandable
Her legs are far and away the only redeeming feature of the band.
Maybe she does write the songs though. That would cancel out any benefit her legs bring to the world of Entertainment.
_
Typo
John & Jehn; "owning much to"
Favourite favourite Late Of The Pier track is Heartbeat, Flicker,, Line. Possibly preferred it before but you always prefer the one you've been listening to for the past year over than the one you're still listening to for the first time at the time of writing, eh?
Stryderboy, surely? Anyway, when do we get a name for this R+B Grime (4 da laydeez) that seems to be favoured at the moment.
_
Small
93 is tiny, non? 333 is bigger 'n' that I would've thought. I mean, I've only been to each once to see bands and was pretty wasted at 333 but still. I don't remember it being cavernous. Am I overestimating TV On The Radio's popularity?
Still, I'd go. Have managed to miss every single one of the million Semifinalist gigs so far this year.
_
Literally Painful
I thought that was a good choice of words, actually.

Words: Eaten
BIG ALBUM DIS.
Fucking loved it. Always voting the as yet unmade horror-goth flick.
I'll maybe shut up about the lack of dub on the site now. Although I still think a Various Production 'Versus' review was warrented.
_
Yebbo.
Seconded. Boy In Da Corner is pretty much genre-defining.
The dopest fliest OG pimp hustler gangsta player hardcore motherfucker living today.
To be honest, I am totally and completely on his dick.

July Wuz Also Good 4
Various Production! I knew there was a remix CD that was exciting knocking about and it was released this very month. Fucking amazing. But, apparently, not on DiS. Which is a shame cuz it's more indie friendly than The Bug.
Well, no, that's not true. Their album proper was more indie friendly. The remix album does have Foals on, though.
Wicked, wicked stuff.

Big Kooks
Their mainstream anti-indie sell out status was pretty much concrete when the first album came out.
I'd say being intensely, defiantly ordinary does deserve greater labasting than trying to be interesting and entirely failing at it.
I think the 1 did have overtones of atoning for the inexplicable 8 given originally. I fully agree the two albums are the same, they both deserved low marks.
Totally agree about the parentheses though. What was that all about.
In fairness
That isn't to say the review hasn't come to the right conclusion. From the look of the tracklist it seems like another dull remix package. Which is a real shame.
In this case I just reckon someone more enthusiastic about remixes would've conveyed that message better.
Also, would've come across as less, I dunno, patronising.
_
Disagree on that shorthand
'Remix' doesn't have that translation in the circles SMD travel. Their peers are often better known for their remixes than their original material (Switch, Kissy, Boy 8-Bit et al).
Seems to be missing the point a bit to pitch this album up against someone who is clearly counter that culture. Especially since it would've perhaps been better to discuss how well the remixing was handled, something someone who was more versed in it would've probably been better placed to do.
SMD's artist album, - the source material - is just part of their repertoire. Remixes are a big part of what they are about.
Agreed,
Electrelane are easily comparable to Robert Wyatt et al in safe seat terms.
I agree with, uh, CumFace, though. Most of these bands are in the Rock And Pop section of HMV, with those that aren't being in Dance. Robert Wyatt is the 'folk' artist and, uh, M.I.A... world? Portishead the jazz inclusion?
Proper niche artists would get hammered by a voting system like this, though, however worthy. So. It's not really an alternative or addendum to Mercury at all. Unless it's an indie addendum and somewhere DrownedInJazz.com are hosting their own Charon Awards.
Nice idea though.
Doesn't Indie Icon exist?
Wasn't it Mobileact Unsigned? Wasn't it hosted by Alex Zane, the male Alexa Chung? Didn't Envy & Other Sins Win (thanks Wikipedia)? Aren't they world famous now?
Have I failed at getting a joke here?
Really?
Ten minutes later...?
On The Cheep
I think it's pretty reasonable to get the downloaded version free if you intend to buy any physical format, since you'd be really ripping yourself off if you bought it twice. Especially if it really is gonna cost £40 quid for the physical format. I mean, with no record label to take a cut, Radiohead are already making a pretty profit of their more hardcore fans.
Plus, apparently, they need my mobile number to give me music that, effectively, in about two hours, will be all over the internet for free anyway. Oh well.
Seven
How shit can a reply be to a "one to ten" question? Her answer was "maybe a six". What was the Fightstar answer? Did they answer with actions rather than words?
www.me-too.com
Hah. If you're tagging your website address onto non-opinions like that you'll have more traffic than your server can handle in no time flat. A marketing dream.
Tape 23 x 1
Nice review. Never got 'round to hearing the original Tape 23 but you pen a very intriguing write up, fine job. As it is I wasn't impressed enough by I Don't Know What To Do With My Hands but that's hardly your fault.
TheirSpace
Seriously. One person in that tirade of "i love you!!!!"s said they didn't like the single. To be honest if I was in a band I'd be embarrassed if my fans put so many exclamation marks after things.
Articlight
Seconded. Like or dislike the Monkeys they don't go sounding off every two seconds drawing attention to themselves and drumming themselves up to be the most important indie act of their generation. Personally, I prefer the songs of the Monkeys but more than that, I prefer the fact they're not nearly as deeply obnoxious.
ABO Original Broadcasting
Yeah, Archie Bronson Outfit definitely. Top notch band that.
R-I-P I-RON-E
Pretty unlikely. The Darkness are still around, although I much, much preferred Testicles' irony to theirs. Blearg.
Bloc Party remix record: tracklisting
For anyone wondering, it does have the Minotaur Shock remix of Tulips. It's the secret track tacked annoyingly onto the end of Compliments after ten needless minutes of silence.
Various - Test Match Special: titbits from the To Do pile
Bloc Party remix record: tracklisting
From my point of view, then, it's a good mix. Bonus.
The Egg - /Forwards
The Race - Raising Children/Go Figure
Hah. Sorry. I'll get me coat.
