But isn't there a wider issue?
That large swathes of the media are making out large groups of harmless people as subversive?
Its as if The Mail thinks that any young person who lives their life in any other way than a Boy's Own comic strip is somehow wrong.
Although I'm a fervent liberal I really try my hardest to accept different political viewpoints and I'll admit I can see the logic and values behind conservatism - despite not agreeing with them, but the Mail is just poisonous in its desire to attack the innocent in order to further its own ideology. Really it should just fuck the fuck off, so many people who write for it are terribly malignant wankers.
Bollocks.
Go on their website - the articles are so bad that the majority of comments left below them by regular Mail readers point out how over-the-top they are.
I hate this paper so much.
It's even more true the more 'trendy' the journalist is:
I saw Alex Zane interviewing James Murphy once and he asked him something about "back in L.A." Murphy looked at him funny and replied: "L.A?- I'm from New York."
Zane justified himself by saying "I guessed knowing it must be one of the two."
It might have been remotely excusable if Murphy didn't write songs about New York, wasn't the head of NY's most significnt record label of recent years, and probably the greatest influence on the City's sound for the past five years. You don't even have to be much of an enthusiast to know these things - but its actually embarassing when people won't even do the smallest amount of homework.
Sawthis guy play a pretty uninpiring set in support of Final Fantasy on Saturday
He then, like about a dozen others went on to chatter throughout the headliner's set, thus ruining it.
I don't hold the guy in very high esteem.
Never realised that Prince got quarter of a million from the Heil on Sunday for this
Really sticking it to the man ain't he?
But its ridiculous to claim that this should chart. I bet when they gave away 'Summer Driving Anthems' or whatever in last week's issue they weren't arsed about that charting - and I'm sure the Mail's circulation is more than most record sales.
CD's like 'Summer Driving Anthems' from the Sunday Express/Mail make up half of my Mum's record collection. the other half is folk records from when she was a hippy in her youth. IRONY.
This is now a fiver in Fopp
So I picked it up.
If I wasn't quite sure before that 'Handshake Drugs' is musical perfection I am now.
I must have missed those great reviews
that Babyshambles got.
'Holes' at Leeds
Was one of my best ever festival moments.
"Dug by little moles!"
The Killers were a pretty much instant success, non?
Muse had to graft though.
NOTE TO SELF: Stop ending sentences in French.
Gosh
And you sound really interesting.
Etiquette
Is my album of the year so far.
Spoke to him at the Manchester gig as well and he did seem keen to leave the battery-powered keyboards and go in the 'band' direction. I hope he does keep some quirks in his songs though, he's quite an imaginative producer in a way.
Nice guy as well.
Where's 'The_glory' when you need him?
I want an argument about how each single syllable of this record says more about class than the entire Oasis back-catalogue.
No Manchester!!!!!!
Looks like a trip to Leeds then...
Probably
because she got cancer
I actually clicked on that last link
Because if it issn't a real website it should be.
It does
Once I've finished with it.
Should have read 'actually nice'
Damn Freud.

Fight Test by the Flaming Lips
Is so amazing a song, albeit a rip off it makes me wish that Cat Stevens's 'Father And Son' never existed in the first place despite it being a great song.
I also wish Boyzone's 'Father and Son' never existed.
I also wish Roanan Keating and Yusuf Islam's 'Father And Son' never existed.
I also wish Ronan Keating never existed.
Yusuf Islam wishes that Salman Rushdie no longer existed.
I wish the Islamic faith never ABANDON POST.
You should leave the plug in
Get everybody at the party to piss in the bath, so when that person wakes up they are in a bath full of piss.
LOL
I just found this review of the album on Amazon:
Keep it in the field where only the cows need suffer!, August 18, 2005
Reviewer: A music fan
Having just seen this band live supporting Kubb (a truly great up and coming band), I can only say I wish I hadn't forced myself to sit through the entire set.
This band seem to be unable to construct a coherent song, instead the result seems to be a schoolboy jam! Not only that they seem to be suffering from with an internal struggle as to which member of the band should be the lead singer. Of course neither of them should bother trying to win that fight, perhaps they should find someone with charisma who can actually sing and write songs.

Like Kubb?
Confession
I DID have my Daft Club membership card in my wallet in sixth form.
I should still carry it I guess because if I died I'd like to donate my organs to French house music.
And is 'Phoenix' not on this from Homework? Very strange tracklisting.
I don't think many DP super-fans such as myself would either buy this for the DVD with owning Interstella 5555 and the Gondry DVD.
And if its treats you want then the Daft Club CD is better. Complete with the Boris Dlugosh mix of Digital love (best mix of best song ever - why don't people use phaser drums more?) and the Romanthony unplugged version of 'One More Time' which is the so bad its hilarious (but I think its supposed to be)
I hate it when I write something which reads like a press release. But I love Daft Punk.
Digital love = best song ever
Honestly.
The Avalanches record
Great as it is does tend to noodle about at times.
And Endtroducing has Mutual Slump, so that wins.
Filip - have you ever seen James De La Cruz DJ? He's unbelievably good.
^^^^Bollocks^^^
To be fair, Skinner has never courted fame nor the tabloid press. He's got himself famous by being a popular musician. That's not his fault - and he's always ridiculed the chavs you allude to.
Also, what do you want him to sing about? It'd be rich for him to still be talking about the stuff he was on OPM, when he's not just another nobody now.
Granted this is probably only a 6/10 single, but its because he's become a victim of his own success. He's nailed what he does, then did a concept album, and he can't really do that again so we get this... what do you want him to do? I bet he's probably a bit fed up himself.
I was going to say
Has the lead singer always been a cocky wanker then?
Stuart Price is a genius
If you don't own and love the LRD album then you are dead inside.
I hate Madonna personally, and from what I've heard of this Price is producing it with his eyes closed, but as far as dancefloor pop goes, there isn't much better.
Did you admire the achievement
of Chico by any chance?
"Its unfair to say that the NME only put them in the paper cos they are women"
Yes it is. Its the fact that they are attractive.
And you'll find that that is the criteria for getting in any part of the NME really.
I think they should make Indie porn
With some pasty looking girl with a hairslide stripping to Belle and Sebastian or something.
Shortwave Set
I saw the Shortwave Set on Thursday in Manchester, they seem like lovely people and have some nice ideas musically, but the whole is just so dull. Completely lacking in songs IMO.
Irony
The NME gave this a '9'
^^^^^
Correct.
No
I find them more like a Mars Volta I can tolerate.
mainly because they'll have to do something like that to make sure people are still giving a shit in a years time.
The reformed Libertines WILL headline the next Glasto
I'm convinced of it.
There's at least a million grammatical/spelling errors now I've just read that back
Guess that's me with egg on my face.
Irony has to be that 95% of people who like Mogwai also have Blur albums
I like Mogwai and theire recent outbursts have made me laugh, but this is just puerile. There's hardly any wit that passage at all. The digs they were taking at a few years ago were funny as well, but now it seems as if their obsessed.
Their criticising Albarn now for being expansive, its as if they're annoyed that they can't slag him off for going down the Gallagher route of churning out the same old stuff every two years.
There are many annoying traits about Albarn, but we don't need Mogwai to start inventing new things to dislike him for. I don't think he's ever inferred that he is music.
Maybe it is frustration. It's true that so many other bands now do the 'Mogwai thing' better than them.
Ah well, in their defence I'm sure that they don't give a fuck about what I have to say about them now. I just don't see why they think I should care that they still hate Damon Albarn.
Brainlove
is a pr*ck apparently.
Review review here:
Someone
with a camel-toe fetish
'dyeing your hair'
was a bit of filler really, it should have read 'dyeing your hair in such a crap manner' if I was thinking properly.
I odn't think my 'rant' was nonsensical at all. Just pointing out all the things that irk me about him so much. The story about him whinging when Busted split up just showed somebody who held his fans in such contempt.
Also: 'If anyone could write busted/mcfly songs why aren't they all doing it and cashing in?' - Well, they are aren't they?
Have
you seen David Cameron?
Congratulations
I think you're the youngest person I've ever called a cunt.
I've never really understood the stigma around writing your own stuff/playing your instruments though - surely the acid test is if the music you are in some way involved in is good or not?
The fact that James Bourne claims to write his own music is stupid because all he isclaiming to be is the writer of shit songs - which anybody can do.
A quick recap of Bourne then: A twat who sings in a fake accent, wears stupid clothes, dyes his hair, supports the Tory party, criticises Harry Potter for column inches and complained about Charlie when Busted split up because he could have 'milked' it for longer.
Nice guy.
He also needs to brush his fucking teeth.
They've got every right to defend themselves after a bad review
But I wouldn't read between the lines, off past form I honestly think that they couldn't give a fuck about what FHM thought about their album, it was never going to change the amount of records that they would have sold.
Because people who buy FHM only listen to G-Unit albums they downloaded off the internet and trance compilations. And that's the truth.
If M83 isn't electronic what is it?
And wasn't that album from 2004?
'Sonic & Knuckles with Sonic 3 plugged into the top"
Funniest thing I've ever read on these forums.
Where on Earth am I going to get the songwords for the latest 911 single now?
I too used to buy this and TOTP magazine when I were a nipper. I can alos remember my older brother buying 'Fast Forward' magazine when I was really little.
Has it not just declined as pop in a British 'Smash Hits' sense is less popular?
It seems that the kids are listening to the NME bands or US 'Urban' stuff and it wouldn't be a comfortable shift for Smash Hits to take either direction? EMAP are more than likely to just bring out a younger version of NME to compensate if they have any sense. Like you have 'Bliss' for kids who like to think they'd grow up to read 'Cosmo'.
Hang on, does 'Cosmo Girl' exist or have I dreamt that up?
