uhhh yeah, this^
also, they were fucking spectacular.
I'd say this deserves a higher mark
but I think the lyrics are the strong point and that it's cohesive as hell so may have to agree to disagree
*sigh*
Colin writes a wonderful piece on how a piece of music has transcended the intangible feelings in his head (and possibly the most intangible feeling there is) into a melody and people respond with stuff like "thought their first single was better actually". What does it matter if their other single was better? Is that all people's opinion on music stretches to? A sliding scale to put singles and album tracks on... what happened to the power music has, and artistic expression?
Thanks Colin, this review is wonderful.
Belle & Sebastian
did this for The Life Pursuit!
Bright Eyes O-burst back with Live LP
The Tilly & the Wall album is absolutely amazing, as I'm sure this Live album will be too.
P.S. I'm 99% sure the picture is from the gig at The Boogaloo Bar towards the end of last year.

Mastodon on the march throughout December
Peterborough then glasgow then camber? someone needs to buy these boys an atlas.. a metal as fuck atlas of course.
Re: Saul Williams
I agree with him, no offence but you always seem to just rush into reviewing everything without taking time to explore the records/performances you've taken in. It's not really a criticism cos I know you have deadlines etc, I just think most writers on this site really take their time and think for a long time about the records and the approximation they reached on them, whereas yours always seem knocked out a bit quick.
Re: Get stuffed! DiS summer BBQ looms...

Iron & Wine - Woman King EP
Sounds awesome, glad to see you avoided the 'authenticity' issue, you're a very good writer, not related to w. burrows are you?
Re: The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...
Aye, I remember at the end of the brighton show (150 capacity, ho ho ho) I was shaking with my head in my hands, then i got self conscious and decided to take them out and look around... there were dudes on there knees others people looking like i did, two people holding each other, squeezing the life out. It was INTENSE.
Re: The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...
They're taking most of this year off :( Which is fair enough considering they toured pretty much relentlessly last year.
Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
Thankyou so much Sean, all the other reviews i've read of this and digital ash.. have had an irritatingly pensive and withdrawn style to them. Your piece though is (finally) one which highlights not only that this is the defining artwork of our car/competition obsessed generation but exactly why. One thing the world needs more of are people who are Wide Awake, soon it will be Morning.
Re: Ricky
what about: 2-1, to the gillingham 2-1, to the gillingham 2-1
Ashlee Simpson to face 'live' ban?

Re: Bright Eyes - Digital Ash In A Digital Urn
Like you say each to his own, I just thought I'd explain my point a little further:
Both Down A Rabbit Hole and Arc of Time are songs which make me feel very uncomfortable, mainly because both seem to be rubbing my own mortality in my face. What makes me think Arc of Time is more "impressive" is that the track is so upbeat and to create sensations and reactions completely different to the automatic connotations the sound produces I think is really impressive. But I guess it just comes down to peoples subjective reading of tracks in the end.

3 and a half? never liked you Diver. Arc of time has just as much depth and poignancy as down a rabbit hole it's just dressed up as a party song, which surely is far more impressive. For me most of the tracks you've highlighted are tracks which make their message stupidly apparent. Also how have you managed to review this album without mentioning its main themes? I don't mean to be overly critical I just think you've rushed into reviewing the record.
The Good Life - tour & mini-album
Lovers need lawyers came out, like, ages ago. And yes The Good Life are jaded to fuck and drunk as fuck and awesome for it, yes it's true.
Flaming cosmic-rocking titans play free show!
I thought they were playing the free butt ???
DiS end of year polls! Records! Bands! Gigs!
Talk about disappointing.
So, What's the ..... of the year?
- record(s)
Sufjan Stevens' Michigan was so touching, feeling positive about America became harder than ever this year and yet Sufjan still made visions of rural America seem idyllic.
- gig
Explosions in the Sky at the free butt and Conor Oberst's solo show at the ULU were both pretty life changing, eits for their devestating power and conor for being conor.
- band / new band
Bright Eyes are still the best band in the world.
- label
Saddle Creek.
- festival
Glastonbury, my first time, the best thing ever.

Re: Can I get a drumbeat? Conor Oberst goes solo in Lo
You're stupid, Bright Eyes touring band is usually anywhere from a 6 piece to a 14 piece.
Re: Rap with a capital C: 50 Cent gets bottled off
I'm glad that someone entering this country promoting style over substance, rape, violence, gun crime etc got bottled the fuck out of it. I also hope that it would happen again in the future.
Re: Bright Eyes heads frenzy of Saddle Creek activity
Beep Beep were great at saddle creek night, the only bands on saddle creek i don't like are rilo kiley and Now It's Overhead are a bit too um.. college girl rock for me.. he says.. when his favourite band is Bright Eyes...

The Ordinary Boys - "Tara Palmer Tomkinson... what the hell is she famous for?"
East Preston is a suburb of Worthing.
Cat on Form are at least trying to challenge people with new music rather than recycle old ideas.
The fact they could afford to tour was down to their daddies. Fact.
Worthing is a nice place to live.

James: “Not getting your head kicked in!”
Preston: "I wouldn’t recommend going there... ever! It’s one of those seaside towns where the kids are addicted to arcade machines and they need to kick someone’s head in to nick their wallet to feed their addiction.”
James: “There’s a lot of weekend heroes there who are up for a fight.”
Loser. They're from East Preston from a start which is where all the mansions are. They're just stupid rich boys whose daddy pays for their tours. Worthing is a nice place to live, lots of bands here who are a hell of a lot better than them too just can't afford to pay to get signed. Oh I went there.
